In the western area of the Agra Fort building complex, beyond the courtyard known as Machchi Bhawan, is the Diwan-I-Am or Hall of Public Audiences, where the emperor listened to public petitions and met with state officials. Shah Jahan is also responsible for this building. It is a large room open on three sides (in practice a large portico) with the ceiling supported by polylobed arches resting on columns, twined for the external arches: 9 on the long western side and three on the short south and north sides). On the eastern side, the only one with a wall, is a finely inlaid marble loggia, from which the emperor attended audiences. In front of the Diwan-I-Am there is a large garden where there is, among other things, the tomb of John Russell Colvin

Looking as though it is made out of white marble, actually it is made out of red sandstone covered with white plaster, is the massive Diwan-i-Am. This large building, with its nine arches, the Hall of Public Audience, was where the Maharajah addressed his subjects. Although the building is made out of red sandstone, what is made of marble, though, and inlaid with precious stones, is the Throne Room at the rear of the building. You have to stand in the arcade behind the arches to appreciate the size of this building which, after all, is only one of the buildings in the Agra Fort.

The Diwan-I-Am (Public Audience Hall), inside the Agra Fort, is a large building that dates back to the Mughal era; it was commissioned by Emperor Shah Jahan in the first half of the 17th century. This Diwan-I-Am was the first such structure built by Shah Jahan; he later had several others built, including the one in the Red Fort in Delhi, for which the one in Agra served as a model.
The building, made of red sandstone and painted white, was erected on a single floor; the front room shows a ceiling decorated with intricate carvings (it was once decorated in gold), supported by several orders of columns and elaborate arches placed at their tops. The room, which appears to be divided into three sections, is open on three sides, while on the fourth side there is a small room, made entirely of marble and decorated with engravings, niches, and refined inlays in semi-precious stones, where the emperor sat listen to the complaints of their subjects during public hearings.
The enormous charm of the Diwan-I-Am lies in its extraordinary architecture, with the different elements characterizing the large hall showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship of the artisans of the time.
The gardens in front of the structure are very beautiful and beautifully maintained.

One can feel inside that the real diwan-i-am is going on where one can see clearly both the entry points at two opposite side. Unfortunately the light and sound show is not happening now

Zum Schluss noch einmal sehr sehenswert ist dieses Gebäude. Mal wieder auch gut zu fotografieren! Gerade die Steinmetzarbeiten in den Gewölben sind schon eine Wucht.

The precursor to the Diwan-e-Aam at Delhi's Red Fort, this one is a massive pillared pavilion, fronted by a large garden. This was where the emperor would meet the general public, so to say: ambassadors, people offering tributes and gifts, people beating petitions, and people he was rewarding. In addition, horses or elephants were paraded here before the emperor, among other more showy elements of state.
The pillared hall is fairly bare, but the white marble throne area has some lovely inlay work. In front of the Diwan-e-Aam, in two separate enclosures of their own, are remnants of British rule in India: a British cannon, and the tomb of John Russell Colvin, lieutenant governor of the North-Western Provinces, who died of cholera in 1857.

I wish the experience be enriches with audio trails available for the uninitiated.the guides tell laced anecdotes with scant respect for history.

This is a lovely, functional building inside Agra Fort, where the Mughal emperor met the public. It isn't very grand or decorative, in comparison to the other buildings within the fort, but that is understandable, given that for all intents and purposes it had an official purpose.
