A must watch in Varanasi. Very grand and very well coordinated and choreographed. Can be watched either from the river or from the ghats. Seating arrangement is free on the ghats or INR 100 if you take a chair.

Witnessing evening Ganga Aarti in Varanasi is an exciting experience. We had a vantage view from our exclusive private steamer and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Thousands of visitors from all over India and abroad throng to witness this every evening.

Most disorderly and disorganized experience, giving free hand to the looting brokers. The govt is aware of everything, still they chose to keep quiet

Whether you are at the ghats or in a boat facing the ghat, the Ganga aarti is a magical experience, especially at Dashaswamedh Ghat. This is something that one must do when in Varanasi.

The ghat with its age old stories, the ambience, shankh naad, hymns, diyas - a total Devine experience! Only issue is the crowd which may bother you at times.

I was so forttunate that the Ganga aarti, which was on hold for a month due to COVID related restrictions, re-commenced on Sunday 6th Feb 2022.
The Ganga Aarti of Varanasi is a shining beacon of devotion and bliss that makes us experience the divinity in and around us. The aarti takes place daily at 6:30 pm post sundown for about 45 minutes. The venue is Dashashwamedh Ghat, one of the holiest of all ghats in Varanasi.
The ceremony takes place on 2 platforms/stages - one with 5 priests and the other with 7 priests, who perform the aarti sporting dhoti and kurta well-tied with a long gamcha (or towel). They prepare the set-up by gathering five elevated planks, a layered brass lamp, idol of Ganga Devi, flowers, incense sticks, conch shell and other ritual paraphernalia. Eager devotees throng the site from across the city to witness the awe-inspiring spectacle; many others take a boat ride from the opposite banks of Ganga River and get the boat parked on the banks of Dashashwamedh ghat. Only the learned pundits of Vedas and Upanishads are involved in performing the aarti, and they are headed by the priest of Gangotri Seva Samiti.
It is an organised activity that begins by lighting up the multi-tiered ceremonial brass lamps and a well-synchronised and rhythmic chanting of the holy mantras. While, some of the priests blow the conch shells to sanctify the atmosphere, other priests begin waving the incense sticks to worship Maa Ganga.

Performed daily at dusk at several ghats, the one at Dashashwamegh Ghat is the best. Great atmosphere. Surreal lights, lamps and chanting. Best watched from a boat in the river although one may watch from the ghat also.

Hello Kunal!
Ganga Aarti of Dashashwamedh Ghat in Varanasi is world-famous. The focal point of Varanasi is Dashashwamedh Ghat, evening view is even more attractive when sparkling with the light of lamps at Dashashwamedh Ghat the world-famous Ganga Aarti begins with the scent of sandalwood and the chanting of havan mantras. You can easily hire a boat approximate 500/- to 800/- rupees.

There are quite a few things to see in and around Varanasi. Ganga Aarti will keep you busy from 6 pm onwards. You can get a boat for best view of the Aarti from the water. The boat guy will also give you a tour of the other ghats near there and tell you a bit about the history and mythology behind them. You can go to Vishwanath Mandir (half a day). Best time to go to the mandir is early morning.
Additionally you can see Manas Mandir on BHU campus which has the whole Ramcharitra Manas inscribed on the wall inside the main hall. Sankat Mochan is another temple that people go to for worshipping Hanuman. Sarnath is nearby and has a Budhha Shanti Stup. If you want to do all you will need a minimum of three days.
If all you have is 24 hours then arrive early afternoon, do the Ganga Aarti in the evening and Vishwanath Mandir in the morning. This way you can wrap up the two most important things.
