Stop calling it monkey temple, monkey God. It should be Hanuman temple . It is very offensive to call it as monkey God, elephant God etc

There is an abandoned amusement park ride at the entrance.
The area around the Temple is dirty with trash. Yes this is India, but a Temple and it's surroundings shouldn't be disgusting,
Any are with water was stagnant and unappealing.
The monkey's come flying down the hillside when a local brings food. I wouldn't want to get near them.
This was the worst Temple we saw in 3 weeks in India.

Present augmented structure built by the famous queen , Rani Bhabani of Natore (now in Rajshahi of Bangladesh). She lived an austere personal life, and built hundreds of works for the good of her subjects. To Varanasi , she gave this Temple. The red color is most auspicious and associated with Goddess Durga, who is the warrior form of the spouse of Lord Shiva. The worship of Shiva and Parvati is Shaktism and all the lands east of this were under its sway. Originally dating from very ancient times, this is an important Temple of Durga who is also mentioned as the Adi Parashakti or Supreme formless monotheistic Power transcending all Gods and Matter- everything in the spiritiual and material world, past, present and future. One meditating on this from heart and achieving a spiritual liberation is free of all bonds.
The Temple has a fire-altar and beautiful image of Durga. Temple images are imbued with the spirit of the God, and in the case of Durga we must meditate on her transcendental form of pure power too, after seeing/worshipping the image. The Temple is in a ancient North India style called Nagara which started from Kushan times and is different from South Indian style.. (The color also reminiscent of brick color or terracotta used in Bengal.).Quarters for residence of priests household.

More picturesque from across the water at the side of it, it is a striking red temple. In constant use by worshippers you can feel intruding on personal activities so just a quick stop and move on, with not a lot to interest the casual observer.

This was disappointing for a traveller. Red. No monkeys, indeed little to justify the effort.
Hope everyone’s experience is better.
