Rajaji National Park, Uttarakhand
The park nestled between the Shivalik ranges and the Indo-Gangetic plains. It includes Haridwar, Dehradun and Pauri Garhwal Districts. Due to dense forest, the environment forms a habitat for a number of animals.
We encountered with Elephant, Sambar Deer, Moniter Lizard, Spotted Deer and many more Birds....

What a beautiful, hidden secret. The 42km jeep safari is a gorgeous drive whether you see tigers and leopards or you don't (we didn't). The landscape is beautiful, serene and a wonderful experience through sal and other forest types.
We took the safari through the Rajaji Retreat, their jeep was in good shape and clean too. Kundan-ji was our guide, he was very knowledgeable about the animals and birds- and we had a wonderful experience sighting families of elephants, cheetal, sambal, wild boars, peacocks, mongooses, langurs, birds including hornbills, bee eaters, kingfishers, drongos, stone chats, etc. We saw tracks of tigers, but not the tiger itself.
I would recommend renting binoculars, being patient, and enjoying all the flora, fauna, wildlife and serenity and not focus on only the tigers.
We visited on our way back from Rishikesh, and did the afternoon safari which runs for 2-3 hours, so do plan your time accordingly. Also, a very scenic drive.

Whilst visiting Rishikesh, I was so excited to be near a national park so booked a safari. Before booking, I contacted Rajaji National Park on WhatsApp to ask what safari (there are multiple) is best for seeing tigers and large animals along with other questions. I also looked everywhere on their official website to find out which time of day is best for safari to see big animals like elephants but found nothing. After no reply on WhatsApp from the park I decided to book a safari early morning just after sunrise as the general consensus from google said early morning is best.
I saw four peacocks, two deer and … rocks. The safari driver asked why I didn’t come at night/sunset because that’s when the elephants and leopards come out but I told him that sadly no one made me aware of this. Don’t get me wrong, the park is very nice but to charge 3000 a jeep for a short ride around just to see this is disappointing and scamming behaviour. Had Rajaji national park replied to my WhatsApp and/or provided accurate information on their website I could have attended the right safari at the right time but instead they allowed me to waste my money.

Whilst one always goes to the safari hoping to see tigers, elephants and such, I’ve rated our trip a 5 even though we didn’t see any but did see plenty of nilgais, spotted deer, sambars, wild boar, eagles, peacocks and got to really enjoy the untainted beauty of the safari landscape in the cold December winter. A must-do experience if you happen to be in Rishikesh or Haridwar, and best to go early in the morning, be there by 7am (of you can convince your teenage kids to wake up early), but truly worth it!

This is not like a normal National park like Corbett or Ranthambore. We took the Chilla Route and the drivers there don’t have any knowledge of wildlife. They only take you for a jungle “drive” and not a safari and charge 4.5k for that. Guides aren’t available. Any sighting or spotting will be possible only if you have a keen eye. The drivers just keep showing you deer and peacocks. Ours couldn’t even spot a langur. They can’t spot birds either. All the wildlife we saw was courtesy our own ability to spot them out. The driver would just “drive” and wasn’t even looking around.

Forest is beautiful. But if you intent to see wild animal, it will be a dis-appointment. You will be able to see only deer and monkeys. Cost for 4 person is Rs 4000/-. You will not get any receipt for the same, so you will not be able to know whether price charged is genuine or not. I visited on 22-05-2022.

Sorry to answer you so late. I am not sure about the options. And morning or afternoon slot does not make a big difference. Spotting animals involves patience and luck. Decide what suits you best

How does one reach Rajaji National park from Jolly Grant Airport. and where should one stay while at the national park
Ravipg71
Mumbai (Bombay), India129 bidrag
I stayed at Haridwar which is a 1hr drive from the airport. You can then have to work with your hotel which will arrange for the Safari. The Chilla Gate of the park is 8 kms from Haridwar (har ki pauri). Else the northern gate of the Park is a few kms away from Jolly Grant airport. But I am not sure of the stay options there. You may then like to stay in a hotel in Dehradun instead.
What is the best time to visit this place

One should avoid the summer and monsoon time. Because the road is very uneven. Besides this you have to ride an open jeep. The jeeps are mostly in very bad condition.

Is it safe to go to this park with a 11 month old baby, keeping in mind the security and the facilities available?
If yes, which is the safest place nearby to stay for two days?
Venkat273
Gurgaon, India689 bidrag
1) It is jungle out there
2) But the animals are more cautious / disciplined than a human being
3) It is by and large safe to be in a jungle in a vehicle. However you have to respect the animals and maintain some distance. Especially mother elephants Iwith a baby elephant), Tigress (with cubs). All mothers are protective. The forest guide and the jeep driver are trained for above aspects
4) Chila entry gate of the Rajai National Park is just 6 t0 10 Kms from Haridwar. You can stay at any hotel in Haridwar. You will have to drive down in your car to the entry gate or take a taxi. Or you can stay at the forest rest house located at the entry gate to the forest. Or GMVN resort which is close to the entry gate. Or a couple of private resorts which are expensive.
5) It will be dusty and hot in summers. Cold and dusty in winters. Please plan protective layers for the child accordingly
6) There is no rest room / or anything for 3.5 hours of the safari. Please factor this aspect. Or you can ask the guide / driver to plan 1 or 2 hour safari only (they will take U-turn and come back (instead of comleting the full circuit
