You don't need Tripadvisor to just go to the fabric street.

Both my partner and I love it. but we don't go just to look . Vanessa is looking for dupion silks , I find its great if you know what your looking for otherwise you get hypnotised and overwhelmed. We met Joab in number 93 as I recall. It was a joy. Born in Surabaya, then Geelong for a time. Gracious comes to mind . And all at a quarter of the price she would pay here in Tassie for her silk. If you love fabric its paradise. There is also a shop that sells jewellery findings and you can buy a "diamond" as big as the Ritz !

デンパサールのスラウェシ通りに布を買いに行ってきました。
道の両側に生地問屋がずらっと！布の問屋街です。
バティック、クバヤの生地はもちろん、洋服、クッションカバーなど小物類、カーテン、ベットカバーなど種類もいっぱい。
デザインも流行りがあって、新しいデザインいっぱい発見できて楽しいかったし、素敵な布をゲットできて良かったです😆

My girlfriend wanted to pick up some fabric to bring home. Denpasar is a big city with lots of traffic, so you don't just zip in and zip out to Jalan Sulawesi. We made a list of things we wanted to see in Denpasar, hired a driver, and made a day of it. Lots of the shop owners spoke English, but having our driver along to help ask questions on our behalf helped. There are lots of fabric shops on this street, as well as the surrounding area, and they all kinda blended together after we entered the 4th or 5th one. They all seem to have pretty much the same fabrics, and none of them were selling it for substantially less than anyone else. The prices were definitely less than what we would pay in the US, but I'm not sure we would go out of our way to go through the hassle of getting to this location again. It's right across the street from Pasar Badung and you park in the same parking lot to visit both. If you are hitting one, you might as well stop at the other, otherwise I probably wouldn't recommend fighting all the traffic just to go fabric shopping here.

Siapa sih yang ga tau pusat jualan kain di Denpasar. Kalo kalian suka jahit baju sendiri, di sinilah tempat yang cocok kalian datengin buat cari kain - kain yang bagus. Banyak juga macem pilihannya.

Я же попал в этот "рай тканей" как сопровождающий) В этом месте глазам больно от обилия и разнообразия красок и экзотических расцветок. Жена говорила что качество тканей "так себе". Азиатские рынки все похожи независимо от ассортимента. Фирменный батик купили позже и в другом месте)

Our driver (@indraketut) took me here. I couldn't face going into every shop, but went into every shop for two blocks. The sellers outside are very insistent and I was advised to keep my wallet in a zipped pocket. Lots of the materials are the same in the shops, but there were some good finds. My driver/guide made the experience hassle free. I think this is the only way to do it. I chose the fabrics and he asked my questions and organised the prices. I was buying fabric for patchwork mostly. The prices were a quarter of the price I'd pay in Australia. I suspect this is why my experience may be better than others who ventured in without a local. It was worth the money to have Indra with me for the shopping trip.

Whole street is given up to small kiosks selling fabric. Lots to choose from. It's a matter of going from one to the other to find what you want. I bought cotton. Found one shop that had designs I really liked and bought in there. Also a shop selling Rasta fabric which I couldnt resist.
The area where it is is very busy traffic wise so you need to take care when crossing roads. It is not a tourist area so restaurants are all local warungs. We had a delicious meal in one very cheap.
There was also very good selection of fresh fruit for sale by the fabric shops. I loved the atmosphere. All locals.

Most of the batik is not good quality, over priced, not real batik. Other fabrics can be found of good quality and at reasonable prices. My favourite shop in that street is 'Maju Batik', which has a lot of nice cotton modern batik used mainly for patchworking but also nice for pillow covers, at Rp 30,000 per metre.

I visited this street after travelling from Ubud (My hubby drove our hired scooter with me 2 up). There is very little fabric on offer in Ubud and what there is is very over priced. I paid less than one third of the price being asked for a sarong in Ubud for exactly the same thing on Jalan Sulawesi. My favourite shop was Setia Kawan which is at JL Sulawesi 95, Denpasar. The lady owner was super helpful and very friendly. We spent quite a while in this store choosing fabric for cushion covers. I was unsure that the fabric we liked would be suitable for what we wanted so the lady took the time to show us covers she had pre made from the same fabric. She provided care instructions for the fabric i.e. don't put it in the washing machine. I can not believe I also bought fabric for a dress that can not be machine washed, maybe that piece will be to stroke in my stash. Prices for Indian Satin ranged from AUD $2.50 to $7.50 per metre. Before she told me the price of the $7.50 ones she had told me they were expensive, I tried to hide my smile when she actually told me the price, a metre of Indian Satin for less than the Gin & Tonic I am drinking as I write this. WARNING! Avoid the women who hang around in the street and the market attempting to lead you into stores and help you with your purchases. They will follow you watching what you buy and try to get you to buy from other stores. They will ask the store owner the price and then inflate it massively when they tell you. You do not need any help, whilst the store staff may not speak fluent English they certainly are friendly, helpful and generally won't rip you off. I didn't feel the need to barter on any of the prices but did get a discount because I bought 6 sarongs without asking. I had a great time shopping, yes it's hot with no aircon but a much better experience than Spotlight.

wanting wholesale prices on sarongs in Bali does anyone know where I can get them. Im staying in Seminyak.

I believe most were between $2.60 to $3 AUD at wholesale prices for the rayon 2 sarongs. The high quality rayon 1 sarongs averaged around $6+ for wholesale.
I bought almost 30 sarongs while I was in Bali but most of it were bought at wholesale shops outside of Jalan Sulawesi. Most were just on the outskirts off Kuta and Seminyak.

Is it in the city centre? Going in October on a tour. Arriving the day ahead to go fabric shopping. Want to know where to book the hotel. Any help would be appreciated

I agree with Walt H, but you could also stay in Nusa Dua, Kuta or Seminyak, all are roughly the same distance.

There was very little hawker activity for the fabric stores, but on corners the hawkers will try to sell you jewellery etc. If you say no that encourages them so just ignore them.

I have been to an excellent fabric shop for patchwork supplies in Jalan Sulawesi and want to send a friend there. The owners were Indian and they had a lot of cats in the shop. Can anyone help me with the name of the shop?

I went and half of the stores were closed. The ones open were more for traditional wear so not a lot options. Apparently Friday’s, some are closed for Muslim prayers.
I wouldn’t recommend going on Friday or Sunday.
I didn’t realise that it was in the Muslim quarters so be mindful of what you wear.

Yes to all the adjectives except Rayon. I wanted cotton so didn't check on Rayon but there are multiple fabric choices.
Lots is bright, floral and sold by meter.
