We had a great time visiting this museum before heading up Kilimanjaro and a safari.
We had a guide (Eric) who did a fantastic job touring us around the museum. Great way to get familiar with Tanzania and some of the history here. We got introduced to animals we would see later in the safari as well as some of the notable fossils found in Tanzania like Lucy.
If you have a day or two in Arusha I recommend checking it out.

I liked the fact that I only had to walk to it after I had finished my errands in town and I was not disappointed. It showed me a lot about the evolution of the people and the city of Arusha. I was surprised they also had a botanical garden and an arts shop at the back.

The Building is definitely historical and has different sections but the maintaince of the building and exhibitions could do with some more investment/upkeep.
The photography exhibition on the tribes and the wildlife is extensive. Its a good introduction of the different tribes in Tanzania. The natural history museum section is cool to see but its a bit cramped together.
Overall its a good place to go to get some overview. I did however feel that the area dealing with colonial history seemed to represent a one sided sentiment - the positivity of colonialism.

An interesting mixture of history, environment and culture. I'm a little surprised at the critical reviews here for the Boma/Arusha Natural History Museum. Yes it is a little run down, exhibitions might be old but it is still a good place to visit. I'm not sure what others expect from small city run museums.
There are different exhibitions in each building. The first building takes you through the development of mankind, nature and some other stuff. The second building has a small exhibition on German colonialism in Tanganyika. The third building contains stuffed animals and a great photo exhibition from Dick Persson of birds, insects and animals.
In the grounds are some large turtles roaming around. There is also a small botanical garden, the entrance is hard to find but just behind the museum office. In the botanical garden there are a nice variety of plants.
As others have mentioned the entry fee is 12,000 TZS, I paid through TigoPesa, nice and easy.

Nothing noteworthy except some tortoises in the garden, which costs 12000 shillings to see. Guys in the back are selling souvenirs but it's mostly the same stuff you see everywhere. It is in a nice location, but you're better off hiring a ride and going to the cultural heritage center.
