Our hotel taxi driver suggested the Napuru waterfall (I compared the photos, I think Napuru waterfall IS Mt Meru waterfall, maybe Napuru is how the fall is known to the locals?) on the slope of Mt Meru. The whole short trip was absolutely memorable. The drive from the city center itself is so beautiful and unique (you'll get to see a side of Arusha that most people do not get to see). The picnic area at the entrance is tranquil and lovely. Our guide Issa that we hired from the entrance is one of the nicest most sincere and absolutely capable guides I have met on the trip.

Getting to the waterfall requires some skills and stamina. I went in mid July when the steep slope was still somewhat wet, muddy, and therefore very slippery. I was not sure if I was able to go down safely even with my hiking boots. Issa was so amazing in helping me descend safely. He was fantastic to playing his foot in a position to make sure that I would not slip. He offered his very strong and steady hand all the way down.

Once down the slope we had to walk through the beautiful Themi River valley. The view was gorgeous and the water was clear and beautiful. We went on a weekday afternoon so we were the only ones there. The waterfall is hidden so when it all of a sudden came into view it was such a lovely surprise! The waterfall area is small. Going on a weekday is highly recommended to avoid the crowd.

As another reviewer noted, walking up and down the slope requires a certain level of fitness and stamina. If you have knee or back problem I would recommend to skip this sight. Otherwise, it is so worth the trip!! The steep descent makes the view even more memorable.

I would not go during the rainy season as the slope would be super wet and slippery.

Hermoso entorno natural sin mayores intervenciones urbanas. Algo dificil el acceso por ser un sendero muy rustico. Entorno disfrutable, hay que cruzar el curso de agua varias veces, ir con ropa cómoda y calzado apto par agua.

Went on Morani tours to coffee tour then on the the falls. Guide was terrific. The coffee tour was wonderfully entertaining as it was a small farm, family run and you see and take part in the entire process from roasting by small fire, cleaning etc and the drinking the coffee. Very fun experience. The we hiked to the falls. Fortunately it was dry and sunny. Would have hated doing it in the rain and likely would not have gone as it s hard enough slog and the train gets very narrow in places. Nice enough waterfall. After that got the most spectacular views of Kilimanjaro. Beautiful is an understatement. In total a lovely day.

Rather disappointed. We researched in advance and saw that entrance was approximately 20000TZS or, approximately, $9 USD for a foreigner. We spent $30 on the round trip can ride (because the roads were so bad) just to have the entrance person claim that we had to pay $15USD each AND take 2 guides each of whom we were expected to tip $15USD. Suddenly, our $18 waterfall hike (2 people) turned into a $60USD waterfall hike. We tried haggling but they claimed the price was firm. It simply was not worth the cost and so we skipped it and just ate the cost of the cab ride. Very disappointed.”

Jenna, We are sorry for what happened to you at the waterfall check point. This page is owned by Hakuna Matata Walking Tours and not the waterfall authority. You wrote your review on a wrong page. Thank you / Erick!

Once you get to the park, it's only about a 30 or 40 min hike down into the valley to the falls. So technically it's not very far and if you are in pretty good shape it's a good adventure. However do be aware that there are a few pretty steep sections with homemade ladders and some stream crossings at the bottom you will have to navigate. While it's worth it, this really isn't a Sunday afternoon stroll. Be prepared. You really should get a guide and be prepared to give them a little tip for helping you. The falls themselves aren't very large but do have a fairly long drop and it's a very pretty location. If you're comfortable hiking in slightly rough terrain, I would highly recommend it. Good way to spend a half day.
