Kusadasi is known for its street markets, they are part of its culture. In the old town you can find shops of all kinds. Cafes and a lively life. As soon as we got off our cruise ship and started walking through these streets, we were enchanted by the place and its people.

The bazaar in Kusadasi was great with very nice products.
I still regret not buying stuff in here because I thought that the quality of products would be better (also pricewise) in Istambul... :-(

Now that I've read some reports/comments here, I feel sick. Apparently there are people here who can't assert themselves, or who are simply negative.
The bazaar is in an old, large garage with two floors. The vegetable bazaar, clothing bazaar and also a flea market take place there. The clothing bazaar is always there on Wednesdays. Before you go to the bazaar, you should know what you want to buy and also know the current EURO/LIRA exchange rate. With all due respect to the local people, you should not forget to "live and let live".
We weren't insulted or anything like that, it always depends on how you treat each other. If you're friendly and polite, you get the same feedback.
As I iron the shirts I usually buy there myself, I know the quality of the goods. I only ever buy shirts from Tho... Hilf... The quality in Germany is similar to that in Turkey. In Germany it is A-premium quality and in Turkey it is almost super good B-stock, where one or two threads may have to be cut off.

If you expect A-premium goods for a low price in Turkey, you are wrong. This can also lead to misunderstandings. In the shops in the city you can also get very good B-stock with the same small defects.

As I always buy several shirts, I can negotiate the total price well afterwards. At the bazaar as well as in the city. First I always ask about the price, then I can estimate where I will end up and where I start the negotiation price. I put on each shirt and check it for defects. I then always show them to the sellers directly.

The products are not of inferior quality, they just usually have small defects. Turkey is one of the countries that has a very good clothing industry, the B-stock is then sold in the shops and bazaars for less money if you can negotiate well.

The protagonists who boast here with statements like disgusting, scary, pathetic etc. should not visit these places like bazaars, traders etc. These people put the people of Turkey in a bad light, because the people of Turkey are nowhere near as well off as we are in Germany. The sellers buy the goods in large quantities directly from the manufacturers etc. and can therefore offer very good prices. Some products are only produced for the bazaars and small traders, just like the own brands for various chains in Germany.

If some protagonists show up at the bazaars like the kings of Germany, then it is quite possible that you will get the odd disapproving look and comment. I know these people very well, they complain at a high level, but do not even know the basics of the Turkish language and do not have empathy towards other people. The sellers speak to people, especially tourists, in order to sell their goods.

A good way to start a conversation is to say "Merhaba", which means hello.

A friendly hayır or teşekkürler, which means no thank you, shows that you also show respect for people.

In my countless visits to bazaars or shops, I have never experienced tourists being insulted or abused.

A few words in Turkish also make conversation and negotiations easier. If you also tell the sellers that you own property here, the seller will also be very different to the buyer, and it helps me a lot.

Do not use a credit card in this shop. I bought 6 items costing €88 from Marco Zanetti's shop on 8th Sept. When I checked my credit card ststement I had been charged twice. Once for £755.15 plus exchange fees and 1 minute later £75.71 plus exchange fees.
He claims I bought 32 items. Denys the 2nd charge. This is ludicrous I would not be able to push a wheelchair and carry 32 men's clothing items. Avoid this shop he is a crook. Otherwise the shops seem ok.

This was a stop on our cruise. Visited home of Virgin Mary’s possibly last known home. Beautiful. Visited Ephassis, amazing. The countryside gorgeous. The bazaar shopping area interesting, however did not buy anything.

Intimidating, the shop owners sitting outside on the street ready to pounce on youbas soon as you walk by. Expensive fakes no room to haggle a price these days, and all prices are in euros. What's the point in taking Turkish lira with you?
All the shops sell the same stuff, not many places to buy good souvenirs from.

If you have cruised a number of times in many parts of the world, you immediately know you are going to pass through these areas lined with shops hawking knock off goods. Kusadasi is no different except you can't avoid a lot of them as you have to pass through this maze of shops to reach the old town. For me it is never a pleasant experience as they shout and try to intimidate you into entering their shop. No way man, I just keep walking and don't acknowledge them. Ta Ta pal not today!!!

From the main area by the port, head to the right, don’t go down the middle. Look for a coffee shop/ area just inside covered part (great coffee btw) and across from that you’ll see a small handbag shop.
Don’t be fooled by the small shop, ask to “see the back”. This is code for “show me the good stuff”.
Ask for one of the twins, they really are brothers and have an excellent selection of products… The whole family seem to be genuinely trying to help you find a great deal.
Tell them Gary from America sent you!
