Experience was good.
But you may suffer with deceases like, Brusella & bilharzia.
Make sure you cook the meat well and stay away from dairy products. If you dont you may suffer with decease brusella.
Also dont get into lake water at all, it has lots of bilharzia virus. Were were group of 12 people, all of us found symptoms after visiting this place and took medication.

Most visitors come for the beaches and the hotel resorts but there is so much more to see. Forests, wildlife, birds, fishing, quad biking, mountain biking. You can also visit or stay on some of the smaller islands if you so desire.
We actually moved here five years ago and just love the scenery and slower way of life compared to the mainland.
There is accommodation to suit every pocket from guest houses in Kalangala town from 28000Ush per night to top of the range full board beach resorts at 500,000Ush per night. Food and drinks vary enormously local food is available everywhere.
The ship over leaves Nakiwogo, Entebbe at 2.00 pm exactly, it leaves Lutoboka at 8.00 am in the morning. No Africa time it is prompt so don't miss it. Fare 10,000Ush second class, 14,000Ush first class, vehicles 70,000Ush. Alternatively you can reach it by road via Bukakata and take the 30 minute free ferry to Bugoma. Be warned the roads are not particularly good and there is little tarmac on the island. We first visited in 2003 and fell inlove with the place.

Lake Victoria is one of Africa's icons and to enjoy it's magnitude is an itinerary must. The trip from the mainland to the Island on a ferry is enjoyable: take a good book on the region. The Islnd itself deserves a good drive around - better on a bicycle i'd say! Accommodation options are varied: ask for dinner to be served on the beach: romantic..

It was a challenge to get to the Ssese Islands but the trouble was all worth it! As we travelled with a group of 6 we took a private mininbus from Kampala via Masaka to Bukakata (about 39km via off-road to the harbor). Due to some complications on the road we missed the last ferry so we agreed on a price with the local guys to take us on their large wooden motorboat together with a few others who also missed the ferry. The Entebbe ferry was broken down at that time which is why we had to go the other way. During the boatride we were treated with a stunning sunset. From the harbor you can take a local taxi or a boda to your accommodation. Roads can be quite bumpy so make sure you have enough time for travelling (especially when planning for the ferry). One can find beautiful beaches to relax and there are many spots on the island from where one has a magnificient view to some of the other islands in the lake.
Make sure to have enough cash with you as I'm not sure there are any banks and the card mashines in the accommodations are not reliable.
If you want to spend a few days in quiet, relax and enjoy the sun and the nature - this is the place for you. M

It takes 3,5 hour ferry to the islands and locals like to watch American show wrestling (not my favourite). It stayed in Brovad Sands lodge and visited one day in town called Kalangala. There is possibility for bird and other nature walks but otherwise really quiet place. Maybe best for honeymooners.

Interesting place for adventurous people. Island activities include nature and village walk, trip to palm trees plantation, small zoo, fishing, kayaking, quad bike trips,...plenty to choose from; or just relax in your hotel near the lake, however be aware of bilharzia and warnings not to swim in the lake. Nature here is beautiful, amazing views of the island, rural village feel,..if you decide to take a walk bring some candies for small children that might follow you. It is advisable to eat all meals in your hotel that will provide clean and safe food. There are no big shops, supermarkets around so do bring your essentials/medicine with you. Good place for 3-4 days stay, otherwise nothing much do to except relaxing and enjoying the nature. Ferry from Entebbe takes 3 hours to get to Sesse.

Hi Andrew there are plenty of resorts/ hotels in kalangala. One nice guesthouse is called Dreamland. About 70,000 per night.
You can visit the beach resorts in the daytime and enjoy what they have to offer without committing to the big cost. Alternatively get some phone numbers and call to negotiate a good price,
Victoria Forest is very expensive, Brovad is the highest standard but do negotiate, beer is 7k a bottle sodas 3k. Pearl gardens biggest resort, Panorama nice and quiet, near but off the beach. Beach hotel and others ok but you need to negotiate a good price. Avoid Christmas and Easter as everything is totally packed and prices go up.
You can book forest walks and mountain bike tours when you are there.
Local food available in town. It can be whatever you want to make it.
