Almost all houses are said to date from the 17th century, which may be true, but the current houses are 19th century reconstructions around a wooden frame and with a tiled roof.
It is the owners who open their house for viewing and at the same time try to sell handicrafts or souvenirs. In the first house, Phung Hung house, we are told that it has been in the family for generations. The woodwork is beautifully decorated with Chinese and Vietnamese motifs. Because it often flooded so close to the river, the residents made a trapdoor in the first floor so that they could hoist up their valuable furniture in the event of a flood.
Here we can only visit the trading part.

Now it's not old house it's a shop, now they sell cotton and silk tablecloths, some pictures and nothing more.
All quite old and ramshackle, without any historical interest, practically only remain the exterior structure and the staircase, nothing of old furniture or remnants of the past.

We mainly ended up here because our driver dropped us off there... free entry he said... to visit the most beautiful house in Hoi An dating back over 250 years!! Why not after all ? ... in the end the visit lasted 8 minutes and the guide especially bothered us so that we could buy his handmade jewelry, dresses, objects of all kinds... in short... we left with incense because he didn't let us let go more... as for the visit... average.. you can also see the house and its architecture from the outside...

This is close to Japan bridge and easily accessed. This dark brown wooden house is nice architecture both from outside and inside to see. Interesting combination of Chinese, Vietnamese and Japanese with ceiling.

We were greeted by a sour-faced woman who demanded tickets without so much as a hello. When asked if we could buy the tickets there, she brusquely waved us off to the ticket office a block away.
We foolishly bought the tickets and went back. A "guide" came to make us and other guests sit to hear the history of the house but we were told not too politely to sit on the back plastic stools, not on the chairs. The talk lasted all of 2 minutes and we were ushered upstairs.
Once upstairs the souvenirs pitch started about the gaudy embroidery and that went on like 5 minutes and we were pressured to buy. Then they tried to make us buy generic stuff. When none of us showed interest our "guide" let us look around a bit. Supposedly the family still lives there but there was no evidence of occupation. It just looked like a souvenir shop in an old, really unremarkable house. We've seen much better heritage houses in Vietnam, even in Hoi An. The view from the balcony was utterly underwhelming.
We were allowed to wander for maybe 5 minutes maximum when the "guide" popped back and none too politely shooed us all out by saying "OK, let's go!"
Totally aggravating!

It is well-preserved, clean, and everyone is kind. The tickets are not expensive and you can come and walk around! I want to come back with my family when the time comes.

Immediatamente dopo il ponte coperto si trova questa antica casa a due piani, visitabile velocemente vi dà un'idea di come fossero le tipiche case vietnamite.

The Old House of Phung Hung, located in Hoi An old city is a cultural old architectural building. Built over 100 years ago during the development of the city of Hoi An. It has both Chinese and Japanese architecture. It is worth exploring to appreciate the old heritage. It has two floors. Some Interesting altars for the deities can be seen. While not verified, we were told the owner still reside in the house.

Phung Hung old house was built over 100 years ago during the development of the city of Hoi An. the owner named the house Phung Hung which means “prosperity”. the building is two storied, the different floors are designed in two different styles, one is Japanese style, another is a Chinese design.Since eight generations, people are still living in this house..there is a souvenirs shop inside.anyway,it is the place which you can admire the decor of an old house in the old days.

Another of the centuries-old homes that have been preserved in Hoi An Old Town, this one is just off the west side of the Covered Bridge. It has large open halls, two stories and a wonderful balcony offering overhead views of the bridge and street below. It also seems to be one of the more frequented old houses, and as a result, it houses several shops INSIDE the building, on the second floor, that you have to pass through just to get to the balcony. Though the shop keepers are polite and quiet, generally keeping to themselves unless you seem to be sincerely interested, I find this spoils the historic experience of the house itself. This location did not historically house shops on its second floor, so why do it now? For the economic value. Unless you are really interested in this specific old house, I would give it a pass.

Bonjour, nous avons visité une vieille maison à Hôi An en 2000 dont nous ne nous souvenons pas l'emplacement. Elle appartient à Monsieur Bao Ly. Est ce que c'est bien la vôtre ?
