At the Cam Nam Island ,The tour guide led us through some wooden bridges to arrive at the jetty where we board the Coracle ,the local people call it a "tourist boat".
The Coracle only takes 2 passengers .It paddle us through the river surrounded by the Nipah palm forest. Simply amazed by their boating art and peformances at the centre of its river !!
After this Coracle ride, we walked to the Silk Village. Lunch was served in the Silk Village Restaurant . After Lunch a tour on the Silk producing process to the making of Silk. A showroom with varieties of silk materials & souvenirs are displaced in the Shop for visitors to purchase.

SHHHH everyone, this is our secret. Minutes over the bridge to the busy old town, on the island slower pace, more relaxed some great places to eat. We lived there for 3 months last year, and on other visits over 5 years.
It is developing and that big resort on the right over the bridge is a worry . Can see the locals being squeezed out by money wanting to build resorts. Lets hop[e that it is controlled.
Hoi An is at risk of cooking the golden goose with what I've seen over just 7 years. whole blocks bulldozed for mega-resorts. That island with the HoiAn theme park is just too too expensive and why would you go to a mock Hoi An in the middle of real Hoi An? don't get it.
But just love Hoi An and love being able to glide in and out of the busyness over the bridge.

Interesting to wander around the township and to the temple across the fields and to visit the special water well.
The snorkelling is nothing to rave about - but then we're spoilt in Australia. Also be aware the disinfecting of snorkels and masks consists of dipping them in the sea after use!

We stayed at a villa on this island and were only 5 mins walk from the old town and market. It is much quieter than the old town and has a little supermarket, corner shops and spas. We tended to get our food from the fruit market and the night market. It was really safe to walk there in the early evening with the family. the streets were quite muddy and there is a lot of development, but in the villa, it was spotless. The beach is only 15 mins awy by electric car (100,000 VND). I also walked to the end of the island one day (up towards the river's entry to the sea). It was very interesting to see village life with a small market further down the island. It is also interesting to see the local school and the kids coming and going getting picked up by the parents' on their motorbikes. Would stay there again.

In the course of cycling around the island, we were led by the guide (the great Barry, in my case) to different houses, seeing the manufacture of mats, rice wine, rice noddles, shipbuilding, etc.. The great thing is that you can actually take part in some of the process. I really have a very good experience for the tour and highly recommend this tour.

Our Gate 1 Tour transported us by boat up the Thu Bon River to the small harbor at Cam Nam Island. From the river, we were approached by an older gentleman, enthusiastically paddling his small round, basket-boat for our amusement. He was willing to take onboard those who wished to experience some fun within his transportation, which he paddled rapidly in circles. Great fun, and we each offered a dollar for experiencing the ride. Along the banks of Cam Nam Island, we saw fishermen in both boats, and while wading along the shore, and interesting nets set up within near the banks. We saw no other tourists apart from our group, which was comforting after battling the throngs of humanity within the nearby streets of Hoi An.

From Hoi An’s centre, a short ferry ride will take you to Cam Kim Island, an interesting place for an early morning cycle, which deserves to be added into this checklist of Hoi An attractions.
Cam Kim Island is renowned for its woodcarving village (Kim Bong) and boasts peaceful countryside. Tourists could find other crafts here too, such as the basket fishing boats made by locals and the colorful woven sedge mats. One of the highly recommended activities when visiting Cam Kim Island is to peddle through corn and rice fields around it, even without the tour-guide. Don’t worry, you will not get lost there, and the experience will be particularly worthwhile.

Cam Nam is just a stone throw from Hoi An, reached by a bridge from the market area. many rather luxury houses and villas are lining up here, a residential area for the better off.

Didn't see or feel any, big or small. I wouldn't run around barefoot though!! Travel with mozzie repellent just in case.
