We stayed at a lodge in Swimuwini. Ask for the lodge that is on the river edge. There is an outside table and lovely lawn and the accommodation was very nice with hot water, and well supplied kitchen. We drove up and down the river to various viewpoints, including the Samalema Gorge.
The campsite at the Mbalauta offices looks lovely - lots of shade trees.
We drove through the park and stayed at Chilotjo 1, a lovely campsite with magnificent views of the Runde river, with lots of birds and animals. The sausage and wild mango trees were flowering. The drive up to the top of the cliffs was easy and views magnificent from the top. The baboons were persistent pests, so you have to keep your car doors and tents closed. they will break into bags of charcoal (presumably because people often store firelighters there, which are fatty/waxy). The drive north into the area east of Chipinda pools was touch going (definitely 4x4) but beautiful with quite a few old male elephants. The Fishans causeway is built up with rocks and easy to cross.
In both places the elephants are very wary of people, perhaps due to poaching. The receptionist suggested that there is a plant they are eating which makes them bad tempered.

Wonderful corner of Africa, other visitors few and far between. We stayed in chalets (Chiponda Pools, Swimuwini and Chipale) as well as the remote campsites (Gayiseni, Mutamagwenzi) as well as Manjinji community site. Elephants wandering through the camp at night makes this unforgettable. Birdlie near the Save - Runde confluence is exceptional. The Manjinji wetland is also spectacular.

Fantastic trip to the south of the park. A real challange to get there with poor roads and zero signs. But the accommodation was excellent, picnic stops really good and staff very friendly and helpful. Animal sightings are not as good as other parks and the elephants in particular are very skittish. But do it.

Amazing trip to Gonarezhou. Stayed at Chilojo Bush Camp and then at Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge. Accommodation was great at both, the bush camp has big tents, proper beds, en-suite flushing loo and bucket showers and a sink. We had a private chef but the staff there are great. Not fenced so need to be vigilant but wonderful views and scenery and great game viewing. Hardly seen any other vehicles, totally off the grid. No off reading and limited roads so harder to see animals than in some other game reserves but a true wilderness. The conservation trust and guards are really helpful. You will need to bring everything you need with you as it is a long way to anywhere else to get anything. It’s also a long drive to get there - if you fly to Buffalo it’s still an hour to the park and then could take a number of hours to get to your camp site depending where you stay. Worth it!

We stayed on a private photography safari last October for 5 nights in Gonarezhou NP. The trip was organized and guided by Tented Expeditions - Ian Batchelor. It was a great trip in a lesser known area. Wildlife was sometimes difficult to find but we have been very lucky with multiple sightings of a pack of wild dogs very close to our camp.

We drove to park from Punda Maria through Mozambique and Zimbabwe border posts. The roads in Mozambique was challenging and rough. We were checked for alcohol at post and were told we were not allowed to take in more than 2 bottles of alcohol. That is difficult seeing that you cant buy anything in Park.
Had a awesome camping experience with friends. Camped at Mabalauta camp that had ablusions. Then we camped at Fishans and Pokwe which had no ablusions. Then went to Chipinda pools and stayed in their amazing campsite. Was clean and everything worked. Seeing that it was so hot we just survived. Luckily evenings were more bearable with a cooler wind blowing. Road was ok in park. Dissapointed for not seeing to many wildlife. If we did spit them they rand away. Even the elephants were scared of us.
Came back through Beitbridge on Saturday and had a very bad experience with arrogant border officials. Will defenitly rethink of going over our borders via car

A most impressive national park! On my drive to Chilojo Cliffs I saw elephants, warthogs, zebras, and at least four sorts of deer. And at the cliffs saw hippos, more elephants and more deer. Highly recommended!

I finally ticked my box, and what a day it was. There are lots of animals that one can see. I saw the usual suspects, impalas and also saw wild dogs, giraffe, wildebeest, warthog, eland, kudu, nyala, buffalo, elephants, stingbok, duiker, zebra, baboons and crocodiles; not to mention all the various birds.

Benji weir platform at fullmoon needs to be booked well in advance, but it is a wonderful experience. The tents at Chipinda pools are clean and have an excellent view on the river ( especially after the Elephants cleared all the bushes in front of the tent at midnight!) We travelled in the cold season, but the duvet in the tent was amazing! We enjoyed our stay very much and feel privileged to having been able to spend our days in the middle of nature! Unfortunately we only have a 2x4 drive, so we were a bit limited with the roads and river crossings. We highly recommend to go with a 4x4 drive.

Wanted information on a two day travel from Harare to Chiredzi and back

If you are travelling for a day trip are there guides (game drives) available to take you around the park or you can easily drive around without getting lost?

Hi, is it possible to get a Zimbawean visa at the Sango border post if coming from Mozambique?

Is it possible to fly into or near this park?
Skrevet 8. mars 2019
Hello! There were all sorts of positive noises regarding more choice and cheaper flights, this summer (2018) before the politics and economy went sour (again). When we visited you could get charter flights from Harare to close to the park, at Buffalo Range Airport. It's a two hour drive from the airport to the game rich parts of the park. It is also possible I think to fly Johannesburg to Buffalo Range, once a week, if you are staying at the ultra deluxe Pumushana Lodge. Hope this helps. C.

Hi Susan! Did you rent all of your gear, etc? We are two Americans planning a trip to Zimbabwe (also Kenya/Tanzania/S. Africa and Egypt) next year, and I'm wondering how far in advance I should plan this trip, and also how we can rent all the gear we need to camp. Thank you in advance!

where is Senga border post? do you cross the river via a bridge or across the river itself when possible?
Skrevet 18. oktober 2017
Hi JohnandSue, I assume you are asking about Sango Border Post. I've never done this but met some folk at Chilo in July that exited Kruger into Mozam and then 60-80kms further enter from Mozam into Zimbabwe. The road was rough with a few no bridges and they had to drive through the Limpopo. They managed because a tractor passed by and pulled them locals in Mozam giving them a few minor headaches. There are through. It would probably be easier now as that was after this year's heavy rains - don't know that we would do it - however the alternate is Beitbridge!!!! We will be going through Beitbridge on Friday.
