One of my favourite places in Yokohama, and generally not crowded. It's a combination historical village/Japanese garden (a bit of both), so you can learn something about historical building styles and also enjoy the garden, and possibly also have a lunch or green tea ice cream while you are here.

There are free clean public washrooms near to the entrance.

It is possible to get here by public transit, although there will be a walk from the bus stops of at least 300 to 400 m both going and coming. To get here, Google maps is your friend for figuring out the quite complicated but efficient Yokohama public transit system. I had a day pass for the subway/buses, purchased at a subway station. This makes things much simpler than trying to figure out and pay the individual fares.

Often there are couples getting their wedding pictures taken in the garden, in traditional Japanese costume, which adds an interesting touch.

The last time I was here was in spring, when the flowering trees make it a bit more beautiful than it was this time, in September. If you happen to be here in mid to late October, the numerous trees changing colour should also make it very beautiful.

Both times I walked up to the pagoda (good for the views of the overall garden). There are two or three trails you can follow up to the pagoda. If you continue past there to the observation deck at Shofukaku, you can get a view of . . . the industrial area and harbour to the south of the park. The walk to the that viewpoint is probably not worthwhile, but the walk up to the pagoda and the view of the garden is worthwhile.

What a lovely discovery in the middle of Yokohama. We spent a few hours looking at all the lovely trees and buildings, well worth a half day here. had a wonderful shave ice with Matcha as a refresher.

Quite easy to reach with buses (watch out for return times after 4pm)
The buildings are for many of the old places of Kyoto that were moved around 1915 to the creation of the site so houses, temples... of 3 or 4 centuries.
The garden is nice with resting places and toilets everywhere.
It takes two hours to get around.
We returned to the memorial at the end take a dose of fresh and review the signs.
An area of greenery and zen in Yokohama
Be careful at 5:00.

A wonderful garden in Honmoku, Yokohama. It was designed by the businessman Hara Sankei. It is said to be the Katsura Imperial Villa in the west and the Sankei Garden in the east, and the layout of the teahouses, buildings, ponds, rivers, and trees in the inner garden are particularly wonderful. The sea in Honmoku has been reclaimed and turned into factories, but the sea was once right in front of the garden, and I wonder what the view from the high ground would have been like.

Even on a cloudy and windy day, this is a beautiful and interesting place. If you can get a guided tour from one of the gardeners, do so. You'll learn a lot about the garden as it is today and its history. We had only a couple of hours but I could see spending much of a day here.

I visited on November 28th to coincide with the opening of the autumn leaf promenade behind Choshukaku from November 23rd to December 10th. Although I was able to enjoy some beautiful autumn leaves, overall it felt a little lacking. It may be difficult to expect the beautiful autumn leaves that I have enjoyed here in the past due to changes in the environment. On the other hand, the surroundings of the former Tenzui-ji Temple Tower Hall were as beautiful as ever, surrounded by Japanese laurels. When I visited on November 28th, there was a notice posted about the special opening of Rinshunkaku from December 4th to 10th (see attached photo) (8 times a day, 30 minutes each, limited to 15 people each time), so if you are interested, why not come? Also, it seems that the Nikko Monkey Troop and Monkey Show will be coming from December 4th to 10th from 11:00 to 15:30, so it is a project that everyone can enjoy, so why not go?

A very special place, off the beaten path and practically empty on a perfect sunny day. The garden is spectacular, the buildings are amazing, and there are turtles and koi fish swimming around in the pond. What more can you ask for?

A Japanese garden close to the city center where you can fully experience nature. It was once the residence of Hara Sankei, who made his fortune in silk trade. There are also old buildings that were relocated after the anti-Buddhist movement, making it a great place to enjoy a stroll.
The entrance fee will be significantly increased from October 2011.
Seniors living in the city can get the best deal by purchasing an annual pass during September.

Maybe it's because of my age, but lately I've been enjoying drinking tea (matcha) in Japanese gardens, so I've been going to a lot of them. I took the bus from Sakuragicho. It's a bit of a walk from the nearest bus stop, but it was worth the effort. Once inside, a beautifully maintained garden spreads out before me. At this time of year, the trees are lush and green. I had a break from the tea shop right in the middle, looking at the pond. It was a blissful moment. I'll go again.
