Ranomafana rainforest NP Is a recommended to do if you visit center-south Madagascar. We stopped here on our way from Antananarivo to Tsaranoro Valley (for a climbing trip). We did a night tour in search for night lemurs (found them!) and chamaleons, with and italian speaker local guide.
The same guide took us the following day for a 4 hours Trek into the rainforest National park. The rainforest Is very nice and we had the chance to see several Species of lemurs (at least 5 different of them), and we had the luck to see some of them at 5-10m distance. A lot of chamaleons, geko-leafes, mangusta, giraffe-beetle and a lot of other small interestinf stuff!
The tour Is well recommended.
Also the Village of Ranomafana Is very nice to stay, with quiet people enjoying the Life in the Village.
If you have 2-3 spare hours we recommend to visit the Arborium, there Is a very keen locale guide that Will take you to all the differente plants of Madagascar and Will show you the biggest Chamaleon specie of Madagascar + other very interesting insects and Animals.
We were able to reach Ranomafana guided from Lax, a malgasy locale guide that accompanied US for a 10 day drive around Madagascar. Lax Is a great professional, he can speak French and English and we strongly recommend to be guided from him around Madagascar. Here Is contact: +261341477452.

We really enjoyed our time here. The town itself is really charming, surrounded by mountains. The park itself isv really enjoyable. We saw a lot of lemurs, chameleons, geckos, etc. The winter months are not the ideal time to go, because it's too cold. A lot of the insects, reptiles, and birds are hibernating or just less active. Other than that time frame, we recommend the park. Our guide was Theo (+261346086813) who along with his brother, works with national geographic from time to time. He has been a guide all his life and is very good at it. He has a nice character as well and we enjoy our time with him.

A very nice park with diverse fauna and flora. The guide did nit focus only on lemurs but also reptiles, insects, birds, ferns, mosses, palms or orchids. The guide with his “lemurs spotter helper” (20.00 Ar) located 5 different spices. Twice I was just alone with my guide and lemurs for close encounter. It was funny to watch lemurs enjoying their bamboo breakfast. This is primary and secondary rainforest so bring raincoat as it can rain any time during the day. Unfortunately, due to the cloudy weather and bad light sometimes was difficult. to take nice pics of animals. The park was busy with other groups of people and even big school group. My guide was knowledgeable with good command of English, good in animals spotting. He gave enough time to enjoy the park and lemurs. The park is located about 10 min from the Ronamafana village. If you do not have your car and use taxi-brousse from Fianarantsoa ask the driver to drop you there. There are some accommodation options around the park. Otherwise you have to go to the village for overnight stay. Entrance fee 55.000 = 5.000 Ar local community fee, a guide starts from 90.000 Ar. I recommend wearing a long trousers to avoid mosquitos.

Beautiful park and very interesting visit. The guide and tracker really helped us see lemurs, geckos and micro chameleons. Of course it’s not cheap but it’s worth it!

We had Jose and his team guide us through the park as part of a tour we were on. The guides went above and beyond to not only find wildlife, but to get us in good positions for photographs. They provided facts about plants and wildlife as we made our way around the area. English speaking. Wear long pants and solid footwear with good grip as you will more than likely be off the path. Trails can be very slippery. Mostly shaded, but a hat to protect from bugs etc. would be smart.

This great park is a fantastic rainforest in Central Madagascar with many species of lemurs in it. The trails are from multiday tracks to 1-2 hours. I recommend doing one day of 6-7 hours where you will try to find many lemurs. The golden bamboo lemur only occurs in the rainforests of this park and we found them twice. Besides we found red-bellied lemurs, red-fronted brown lemurs and Eastern woolly lemurs. You have chances to see others as well. There are also possibilities for night hikes.

It's a rain forest. Please be prepared for the terrain. If you are lucky you will see the lemurs. Nothing spectacular or outstanding. Expected more. But understand

We did both walks – day and night and saw a stunning number of lemur species, amazing insects and even the absolutely unreal Satanic Leaf-tailed Gecko, not to mention variety of birds and plants. We did not go to the primary forest which is somewhat farther away but even in the secondary one there was so much to see. During the night walk we saw mouse lemurs, many chameleons and a tree frog. It was very rewarding. Our guide Andre as amazing – his knowledge of wildlife and plants is limitless and, being a biologist myself, I can attest that all of it was very correct. Hence, if you visit Ranomafana, do insist your driver (or guide) hires Andre. We were told that some drivers do not like to hire him, but believe me he is worth it. Prepare, however, for a slower pace with him during the day walk. And prepare to have leeches around, so dress accordingly.

If you can book your visit through a tour company from your home country or when you get to Madagascar, they will arrange a guide for you. I used Jenman Safaris which does custom trips to this country. Our guide was very informative and we had a marvellous time there!

I agree with the same answer.
Roads are in a really bad condition... When they exist. In most of National Parks the tourists aren't allowed to enter without a guide.

It starts at sunset around 6 pm but you will need to get to the start so mast be leaving your accommodation half an hour earlier. More of a walk than a hike!
