A gravestone and a small museum to recount the legend of an execution and a spell cast over Langkawi. There are enough signs in English to get the gist of the story, but you can read the abbreviated version in the TA reviews. There are no signs to indicate which direction the museum flows, we ended up reading the story from the end to the beginning. There are also some caged birds which are being kept in deplorable conditions.

As a Malaysian, I am passionate about legendary stories and one of them is 'Lagenda Mahsuri' . So when I visit Langkawi, I did not want to miss the opportunity to visit this tomb. It's great place to take your child to learn the history of Langkawi's legend.

As a first timer, the place is a must. But if you already been to langkawi multiple times, this place got nothing more to offer. With entrance fee of rm12 for malaysian adult, i think it's quite expensive considering the exhibitions are old and outdated. I think the last time i went there 10 years ago, the exhibit today are the same with no refurbishments. I see some renovations are on going, hoping will update the exhibition too.

RM12 is such a hefty price for a place that is in poor condition. Scenic view around the area, but once we went inside it was a total disappointment. The tale itself is interesting but the exhibition was unimpressive. I learned about Mahsuri when I was young and hope to know more about it here, but I didn't learn much from the visit. It was dull, boring, not interactive and overall just unappealing. One reviewer put it best "reminiscent of primary school class project" and I agree with that.
The exhibition itself is a bit confusing, Why, out of sudden, there's information about sun and planet? What's that got to do with the folklore?
The only nice thing about the place is RM2 mint ice cream sold at the compound.

A beautiful maiden marries a prince and gives birth to a son before prince goes off into war. Evil mother in law plots and gets maiden convicted for adultery. After several attempts to execute the maiden, the evil plotters finally succeed but before she dies, the innocent maiden casts a spell on Langkawi lasting for seven generations. Fortunately, she died in 1819 and we are now in 8th generation, so the island’s spell of bad luck has expired.
The maiden’s grave is here and so are several buildings from that time, which are quite interesting. There is also a well with water that supposedly kept the maiden pretty. However, the exhibition seemed a bit disorganized or even random and the museum section mostly focused on various renditions of the tale of Mahsuri

A must visit place when you are in Langkawi. Here lies the tomb of Mahsuri. The tomb of a beautiful lady framed for adultery, executed and cursed the island for seven generations. Google about this folklore, it will surely make your visit interesting.
At the entrance there are a traditional band, comprising of mainly woman. Playing soothing traditional music on traditional instruments.
Later you will walk the path to Mahsuri's tomb. This complex is not only about the tomb, there is more interesting things to see. You can walk through shady trees with benches on the side for you to relax.
There are different wooden houses which you can go into. Mind you, you need to take off shoes before entering the houses. Most places in Malaysia is like this. Even in Malaysian homes, we don't wear shoes in our homes. There are houses with a replica of traditional wooden fire kitchen. A replica of the chieftains house. With potraits of the Mahsuri and her seven generations. One even houses a quaint Malay restaurant where you can sit and have drinks and light snacks. All through the complex that there are information on different items in the area. Which is rather educational.
The whole complexs is well planned out with ample walking space. There's even a well which locals believe to have medicinal benefits. Along the path to the well, you will come across a shed with local women preparing local sweets. We bought some to eat on our way to the next destination. Below one of the houses, you will find traditional equipments used in the production of rice. There are a parking and modern toilets. A must visit place. Really worth the nominal entrance fee.
