I was attended by one of the local tour guides i found online by the name of Kenny. He was very passionate in explaining the historical and cultural side of Ipoh. Well done!

The heritage walk is clearly demarcated by necessary markings which make it so encouraging and convenient to walk through. A small town yet so much of effort taken to preserve and highlight its heritage is truly welcoming.

Always a must when you visit Ipoh. This wonderful walk takes in all the sites. The tourist office or Internet provides all the historical information you need and it’s easy to use the map provided to navigate round this lovely town.

Ipoh is a fascinating, sprawling city with surprises round every corner. We visited the Old Town district, where there is no better way to get a feel of the city’s colonial heritage than by following the famous Heritage Trail. Depending on what you choose to do, the trail can last from a couple of hours to an entire day.
From classic colonial architecture, to chic bistros and shops, to a historic multi-story car park to an old opium den, there really is something for everyone! After mid-morning it can get very hot, but there are many places along the route where visitors can stop to enjoy a coffee or explore the local cuisine.
To follow the trail, we used the smartphone app produced by Ipoh City Council. This app is excellent. It contains just enough interesting historical information about each attraction, and is very easy to navigate.

ウォールアートを見たい方は、他の方がおっしゃっているような地図を手に入れた方が良いですね。
私は、特に見ようと思わずに、ランチしたりお茶を飲んだりしたくて歩きましたが、それだと、1つしか目に入りませんでした。

If you are new to Ipoh, then please take this heritage walking trail to learn and experience yourself the historic city of Ipoh. Along the trail, you will see many historic buildings, monument, clocktower, etc. There are a few signboards with information about the historic spots you are at. Prepare comfortable walking shoes and don't forget sunscreen when you're outside. The route is within reasonable walking distance and it's very enjoyable to take if you want to catch a glimpse of the old historic parts of the Ipoh city.

I found the heritage guide as a Google Maps guide. I used it to navigate around and got to see some parts of Ipoh that I would have missed otherwise. It shows most of the English Colonial architecture and the information signs, where they are available, were informative and gave more information on the history of the buildings. There were only information signs at a few of the buildings however, and the guide does not include all the places you would like to visit. There is not much of directions to follow IRL.

While some are rushing to tear down historical buildings and colonial heritage sites, one can take a nice and pleasant walk in Ipoh's Old Town and enjoy the age old buildings that are very much still alive. Since some ten years back, there has been gradual but certain transformation and injection of new life to this old part of the city. In fact, old town never really faded away. Through the years, even though the city has developed slowly in new town and suburbs, the charm of old town remained largely untouched. Recent renovations, restorations and reinforcements to the pre World War Two buildings have seen a revival and new lease of life to Ipoh old town. You'd be spoilt for choice over food and coffee in both new and old settings. The Heritage Walk that starts at the foot of the Birch memorial clock tower takes you through journey of how Ipoh got her name and the contribution of different communities to her development through the decades and centuries.

We did the Ipoh Heritage walk today through the old town and thoroughly enjoyed the architecture and ambience. There is some lovely old and very interesting Colonial and Chinese architecture to see.

Since it's pretty much self-guided - what would be the best starting point and a good finishing point. Also, what's the best times to do the walk?
Skrevet 24. desember 2016
You can start just about anywhere and best time would be wither before 12pm or after 3pm when the sun is not so hot!

Hi,
1) how far is this place from French Hotel?
2) is the walking path safe for young children?
3) any open or closing hours?
Thank you.

The Heirtage Walk is not a place per se. Rather, it is a walkabout on the side of the Old Town nearer to the Old Railway Station to look at the old colonial buidlings built by the British.
(1) Assuming that you start with the Railway Station - which is still being used and is one of the buildings included in the Heritage Walk - as your starting point for your walk, that would be 2 km from French Hotel.
(2) Very safe. That area is not crowded at all, and at some places, you may find that you are the only person (or family).
(3) No. It is not a museum. It is a WALK along the roads to see one old building to another.
PS: Not everybody would find the walk interesting especially if they come from a country with similar buildings.

Hi. Anyone know where I can pick up a map of this walk? I found the on-line version but that's not going to print very well on my black & white printer at home. Is there a tourist office at the train station that can give me one? Or, I'll be going to Ipoh World before the walk - can I get one there?
Thanks for your help.

If you cannot find a map, the Padang ( behind Royal Ipoh Club) in Ipoh town will be a good landmark
Its just walking distance from the Padang towards Little India
Explore by foot !! You may find another attraction !!

where is a good place to have lunch around the walk?
Skrevet 6. desember 2015
Suggest having lunch at the Thean Chun (天津茶室). Chinese Restaurant and Coffee Shop. 73, Jalan Bandar Timah, 31650 Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. Recommend to eat Hor fun, pork satay, egg custard, chiong fun and popiah (call from the next door).

Who do I see and where do I go to arrange the Heritage walk?

No need at all to employ a guide in this walk - a detailed brochure is available free from the Perak Tourism Information Office on Jl Bandar (next to the Padang in the Old Town). the always pleasant and helpful office staff will also give you a big map of Ipoh if you ask.
The walk is interesting if not exactly exciting. It covers an area of about six by eight streets and it can be done in about two hours at a leisurely pace and with a stop for refreshments at one of many cafes. The once-charming Concubine Lane still rates a walk-through but is now infested with shops selling cheap (and mostly manufactured in China) souvenirs. Sadly the more interesting shops along with the well-known John's Bar at the eastern end, have closed or moved on and what is left is now mostly Discount shop sellers at inflated prices.
The heritage hustlers basically get their info the same way you can - on the internet. A lot of historical data available online and an hour on your laptop will let you easily map a satisfying tour of your own.
.
Ipoh was a tin town and really came into its own after 1900. It has a handful of noteworthy early 20th century buildings but nothing to match the sheer number and architectural variety of Penang. As such it's worth a day (and maybe an overnight stop) but sadly there is nothing here on the scale of the charming old 118th and 19th century architecture in Georgetown (Penang). Sad but it's the reality.
Where a guide could be useful would be if you want to get out and about and go 'upcountry' for a day tour to some of the more remote areas. Be prepared to bargain as many quote rates that are over the top.
