We had a really enjoyable visit to this beautiful gallery. It's easy to get out here by Grab taxi and if you have a car there is parking. The building itself is amazing and the displays interesting.
The only disappointment was in the shop where there was a very limited amount of craft for sale and they do not accept card payments - really?? Apparently you can pay by bank transfer but we trieds this with both a Wise and a Revolut card but no joy. I think that the gallery needs to buck up its ideas especially as there is such limited craft available in Sabah. They are missing a trick.

Compared to art galleries in other cities, the variety here is limited with varying quality. It is a nice quiet, air conditioned places to get away the bustle of the city noise & activities.
There are some nice pieces that I spend a few minutes musing over. Do remember to check out quirky outdoor sculptures at the base of the building.

An well presented gallery featuring local art. School childrens work was also displayed. Well worth a visit.

The art itself is beautiful. However, Jennifer P Linggi, who is the curator, disappointingly showed quite an astounding lack of professionalism when we tried to buy some of the artworks. It took a fortnight to finalise the transaction. We had to make 4 seperate trips to the gallery. Jennifer was consistently poor in replying to messages, and even when she did, she did not answer all the questions. At one point we asked where we could buy poster tubes to put the artwork in to transport home and she sent us to a shop that did not sell any. On our third trip to the gallery, we tried to pick up the pieces but found that the paper used to separate them and protect the charcoal from smudging and been cut and placed in strips which left parts of the art work exposed. When we asked for new paper that fully covered the artwork to be put on it, we were told it would take 20-25 minutes. At this point we asked for a discount for our time and inconvenience. Jennifer did not bother responding to this, and left for the countryside the next day when we went back to pick them up. She again delayed replying. When we suggested the whole conduct of the transaction had not been at an acceptable standard, we were told that they had already gone above and beyond because they had taken the art work out of their frames (but did not discount the price for the frames) and we had asked for a quote from Sabah post and they unnecessarily took the artwork to the post office to have it weighed. We decided to go ahead with the transaction at that point purely because of the art’s beauty. We were then told (on our FOURTH trip) that the art gallery had no facilities to take payment by card and we had to go an ATM to make the payment in cash. Given that this was the Sabah Art Gallery, this was an incredibly disappointing experience, particularly given the gallery was meant to be competently representing the artists and facilitating the sale of their work. I would strongly recommend not to have any dealings with Jennifer.

Spent a half hour here. Building structure was nice. 2 floors of paintings by local artists in different styles. A lot of potential to expand here. Could improve on the glass framea or lighting. Was somewhat glaring and with reflections couldnt appreciate the fine details in the art.but overall a nice experience.

Beautiful gallery...easy to get around and displays by local artists always a good thing! Could be improved by ALWAYS having local artist who can paint different styles....portraits caricatures ... etc...watercolor, charcoal, would be great addition to the gallery...would also, provide income to local artists

It's an art gallery by local Sabahan artists regardless of ages. The art exhibition is changing every few months. For a person that appreciate art, I find calm and peace here. There are spacious parking spaces and the entrance ticket is very cheap for Malaysians. They provide lift for baby stroller and wheel chair users. Toilet amenities are clean and complete too.
Even the building of the gallery is an art. It looks similar to the native traditional basket.

Bring your family or children come to visit the sabah art gallery..Appreaciate art local gallery and see beautiful art ...really enjoy and spent a half day here.
