Beautiful scenery, clear waters - perfect for a summer barkada getaway. I'm just not sure how crowded it is during summer coz we went Sept 2015 and not a lot of peeps. We even had the place all to ourselves for hours. There's a manong who guards the place and collects a small amount of fee - he has a small hut and a monkey by the entrance to the falls. Short trek from where we were able to park our cars (park at your own risk) to the falls. We could not find this place via waze plus poor network in the vicinity so we had to ask around. Falls is small, we even climbed our way easily to the top and jumped from there. Kids enjoyed swimming.

We went to Occalong Falls last summer. If you plan heading here, you will not see any directions along the way. We were able to reach the place by asking the locals everytime we pass by an intersection hehe. My frined, our designated driver, was able to drive her car up to the top of the hill/mountain so we only walked a few meters to the falls. The drive going up is steep, rocky and narrow. So if you are having second thoughts, just park your car at the bottom of the hill/mountain, I think you can park at the basketball court there and just hike going to the falls. We went here last summer so the water was not as abundant like during the rainy season but the water was so cool and refreshing. Don't expect much - the falls is not so high and the pool is not so wide. If you've been to Tangadan Falls, this will not compare. But for a change, Occalong Falls is a nice place to relax under falling water since there are still a few people who knows this place. When we got there, we were the first ones to arrive that day and the locals arrived a few hours after. Just to brief you, entrance fee is P10 per head, table fee is P30, shower fee is P10.

I have read about this falls online, but reviews are limited and it is actually not in TripAdvisor. But I am definitely glad we pushed through with visiting this falls.

It was part of our Day 1 activities in La Union for a 3-day/2-night adventure. Since check-in time at our resort in San Juan is at 2pm, I planned our road trip so we head straight to Luna, La Union. It was a 3-4-hr drive from Pampanga (+1-2hrs if Mnl) via NLEX, SCTEX and TPLEX. After our visit to the Baluarte Watch Tower, we went back to Luna town proper and asked tricycle driversto take us to the falls.

After looking for a more powerful motorcycles to get you through the short, steep climbs, we were off to the falls. It was a 15-min ride that was a mix of flat, paved roads, uphill climb and the last part was steep, rough road. The tricycle driver/tour guide stopped at a shed where we continued on foot.

We had to trek for around 15-20mins to get to the falls. For non-hikers or those with back problems (I've had a discectomy 3yrs back), you need not worry. It was an uphill climb but no steep or slippery parts.

As we went there on a weekday, there were no other tourists except for local families who were all friendly. There was an entrance fee of Php10.00/person for the upkeeping of the area. There are a couple of cottages groups can use if they plan to stay and eat for a minimal rental fee.

It is a low falls but there is really nothing else that beats the beauty of nature, regardless of size. One can take a quick dip (no bathrooms, by the way), take photos, have lunch/snacks before going back down. In our case, we just took photos and dipped our feet in the cold, refreshing water before heading back (1.5hrs trip)

The cost of the tricycle we rented was Php400.00 because the driver also served as our guide. However, based on some blogs, the tricycle would only cost Php300 round-trip.

A highly recommended place, not too mainstream and perfect for those who love nature. Not to mention it is quite a quick and easy escape from the beach crowd in San Juan.
