Love the views and food. Great place for a half-day visit. Lots of local tourists, including children taking an art class. Personally, I was thrilled to discover the origin of my surname at one of the halls.

We went there on a rainy weeknight so the town was pretty quite. Nevertheless, it was amazing how the town was well preserved with its stone pavewalks, oyster shell walls and alleys with real people living in the houses. Can understand why many would love this place. Unfortunately we could only walk and missed the opportunity to learn more about the history of the various buildings and folks living there. Would need to come back again next time.

一向喜歡去一些有陳舊感覺，歷史背景的地方～去到番禺便一定要去沙灣古鎮。不管愛看舊建築，愛不停食，愛拍照，這裡也是一個好選擇。古鎮基本上是免費，有部份是需購票進入，可以預先在入口處的遊客觀光所購買及取地圖，還有非常有用的美食介紹資料吖。

So very pleased to find this "ancient village". Easy to access, having different gates. The map provided gives you a great layout of the place. A very pleasant and enjoyable atmosphere whilst walking along the narrow streets, stopping to admire the historical past and learning about traditions. There are an abundance of shops and eateries and two beautiful shaded squares where one can sit and people watch. Spent 5 hours here and I will definitely go back again. It is a free entry; however, if you want to go into the 4 "halls" you need to have a ticket.

Well worth a visit!Fantstic getaway, easy to reach by public transport. Place really feels like a different world. Lovely historical buildings, well preserved.

You can’t see much while walking down the narrow streets of Shawan but it is very good to replace crazy GZ with ancient village for just a couple of hours. Oyster shell house was a really cool thing to see (I have see one more in Xiaozhou village). I didn’t have a local to explain to me the importance of this place but I guess this is how ancient Chinese used to live.

I most enjoyed walking on the narrow side street, many of which have small shops selling a variety of goods. The oyster shell buildings were the most awesome for me to view. Well worth a visit, but can take 45 minutes or loner to get to if using a combination of subways and bus.

It was a trip for CantonFair, and some factories visit for business. so I add half a day visit to this old town. it is about an hour and half form town. I like the graceful surrounding. Is like in movie town. I learn the unique construction and purpose of Oyster wall. it actually have the functions of fire prevention, pest control. there is also a tradition soft bean curd dessert. come across a small shop in one of the small lane, and tried their "Apple Banana " which is short and fat. taste between apple and banana.

Shawan is situated in Panyu district of Guangzhou and is very close to Shun De Foshan, One can see the ancient temples, squares, houses and how they used to live, is a place to visit f you like to go back in the past. Do not expect any adventurous ride.

Well, actually no. The nearest as I saw are Shiqiao and Panyu Square. I took a taxi from Panyu square and had to navigate the driver where to go using Google maps since i don't speak Chinese and he doesn't speak any kind of English. I went from Shawan Town to Baomo Garden by bus 67 and then went back with the same bus to Shiqiao metro station. That was actually very convenient.

Hi Laura. Sorry to take so long to get back - and not probably not much help. We asked at our hotel and then largely fluked it by getting three separate local buses and just taking anything going in the general direction. I remember that the buses went on very circuitous routes. Good luck.
