Entrance to this museum is free and it is very informative. Explains the history and changes to tea in China over the centuries and why certain methods are favoured today. Has lots of cool and well preserved artifacts without overdoing it as many other museums tend to do. We had difficulties at first entering because we needed to prove our health codes and travel history but after that it was a very pleasant visit. The Longjing Tea Fields are also nearby and worth a quick trip for. We meant to try tea in this area but we weren't sure which shop to go into!

One of the most beautiful places you can visit. The tea plantations are very quiet and you can walk along the plantations. Afterwards visit the museum to give you a good overview of the history of tea as well as an insight into the many different types of tea.
Afterwards we took part in a tea-tasting presentation which was very interesting. The idea for-sure was to get you to buy some tea from the shop, but you don’t have to.

While in Hangzhou, we were treated to a very informative and interesting visit to the Tea Plantation at the National Tea Museum. We were able to view every stage off the tea growing and processing, preparing and consuming process. We saw the tea bushes growing in their orderly rows, covering the hillsides and mountains; and then up close where we were able to pick our own little tealet sprigs after our guide explained what we were looking for while picking the tiny new shoots. Inside, we were able to view the processing operation and then at large table around the demo room, we were instructed in the proper way to prepare and consume green tea.For someone, who had previously only dunked a tea bag (floor sweepings!) into boiling water, it was very informative and interesting. Leave some time in your visit to see the tea plantation.

Excellently presented, modern, beautiufl building and garden, free tea sampling, you come out of this museum knowing that you have enlarged your general knowledge and you will know what you are talking about when you speak of tea in China. And it is free, Not to be missed, go there before you visit the tea village of Dragon Well

We went here in the morning till the early afternoon. Weather was good so we got some great views of the tea fields.
The place is very clean and well looked after.
Inside the museum it was very interesting to learn about the history of tea in china and that area, as well as about the teas themselves. The information is all in English and Chinese.
We had the tea experince afterwards, very knowledgeable and friendly lady helping us. We enjoyed sampling the different types of tea and the learning the ceromonys involved.

After a really enjoyable lunch not far away, we came here to learn about and sample tea. We were thankful that here it was not the hard and harsh sell of teas like they do in Beijing. At the same juncture, the woman who showed and served us the various teas was not as comprehensive and detailed as that which we experienced in Beijing. Nevertheless, the setting is pretty (such a country feel here with tea fields set against mountain backdrops), as opposed to busy, busy Hangzhou, the history is fascinating, and the teas were all sublime, even the "pissing" tea boy-doll (saw this in Beijing also). Unfortunately, these teas are so expensive that we were unable to purchase any. Make sure to take a walk around the gardens, go into the on-grounds museum, cross over the little stream to meander through the beautiful greenery of the Dragon Well tea plants (this tea is available only in the Hangzhou area), and enjoy a slice of China's very important culture.

Hi
We just visited this tea centre and I bought a small can of green tea and I am now regret tying not buying the large green packet in the demonstration. Does anyone know if and how you could buy tea and have it sent to Australia from here?

I believe there is a fee. I traveled with Shanghai Outing Club. The trip was a hike of the tea plantation and visit to the museum with one fee for the entire trip. Highly recommend the hike.

The bus stop is on the main road; take a left at the exit and head towards Lu Cha. I think we took bus 27 back to the north end of West Lake.
