Ski conditions and courses:
Due to the lack of snow (in late December), the snow play area and some courses at Bankei were not open yet but there were enough courses to keep me interested for a few days. A different course might be open each day. There is no flat course (unlike at Teine) so for those skiing for the very first time, I would not recommend Bankei. Some of the beginner courses at Bankei were narrow and right next to a cliff (with trees). The wide and flat courses at Teine might feel safer. There was plenty of powder at Teine (in late December) but for beginners, the thick snow at Teine required more effort compared to going down the powderless slopes at Bankei.
Ski lessons:
At Bankei, private ski lessons were relatively easy to book. There were lots of Japanese kids attending ski school - good atmosphere if you like kids.
At Teine, private ski lessons were not available although I tried to book early. They offered group lessons for first timers instead. There may have been around 50 students in the class with one coach and lots of assistants. Good for true first timers. For those who pick up skiing more quickly, the class is very slow and involves lots of standing around waiting. I was happy to chit chat and enjoy the scenery while waiting.
Facilities:
The building at Bankei, especially the room where food is served, is quite old but it was fine.
Teine seemed newer and bigger. Also more crowded, more foreigners.
Transport:
Bankei is quite close to the city so if you are staying in Sapporo you could take a taxi from your hotel. Going home was no problem - I was sure to be able to get on a bus or taxi easily.
At Teine, you might want start queuing early for the bus both to get to Teine and to get back down to the train station. It seems there are not enough buses and you will be sardined if you are lucky enough to get on a bus. No taxi would come to Teine, not even if I tried to pre-book or offer extra $.
Conclusion:
The snow, courses and facilities at Teine are better than at Bankei but transport was a no-go for me at Teine. After being stuck at Teine after dark with seemingly no transport to get home (unless I stood in the queue in the car parking area in the heavy snow for at least 1-2 hours), I decided Bankei was a better choice for me and my young child.

Bankei ga daisuki!Superb! We had an excellent time on the slopes. Our Sapporo trip was all about skiing. And since it was our 1st time in Japan, we had planned to ski close to the city.Glad we chose Bankei. It was easily accessible from the city (subway 3stops.bus 13mins 210pp).Staff was friendly and helpful.Ski equipment(Salomon) was superb, better than what we had in Spain.Lifts price was reasonable and some days cheaper for women/men.Night ski was cheaper as well.We went everyday and did both day and night skiing. It was not crowded as we went during weekdays. This one is for keeps.Thank you Bankei.

It is one of the closest few to the Sapporo city, so if you only want to take 30 mins cab ride, this is the one. The Taxi App DiDi worked well there. Going there was no problem. Coming back out, no DiDi driver wanted to pick up our ride request, so the information center called for a taxi (without extra cost).
The place has only a few ski courses; great for beginners.
The food in the dinner hall runs out fast on several items. Consider that there are no other restaurants, I suggest you go in early than late or else there'll only be noodles left.

We just got back from snowboarding in Bankei Ski Area, very good for beginners. The cost to hire instructor is pretty cheap at about 6000 y per person and we have one instructor for me and my son. Feels like a private session. This place is easily accessible from Sapporo. The staffs are very nice and helpful. And all is just nice.

Does anyone know if we need to reserve beforehand or may we come immediately and pay?
Hello, do you recall the prices for the trip?

You mean the rental ? 6000 yen per person
For rental gear -
I only rent shoes for snowboarding + snowboard - it’s 11500 yen per person
If full set will be more expensive.
Thank you

Hi we stayed not far from Sapporo station( Mercure, Susukino). A cab ride from our hotel to Bankei cost us 2750 yen ( we flagged one on the street) on the way up and 2830 on the way back ( you need to inform the staff at information to call u one, our cab waiting time was 20min)
Save us a lot of trouble commuting in heavy snow

Coin operated ones are in the premise and the ones where you pay cash, 300 Yen ( lock n key) to staff is outside behind the ski rental hut .
Lockers are Male and female.

Hi
Me and my wife will be visiting Sapporo from 20th to 27th Nov.
We wanted to visit a ski resort but the main objective is to feel the snow, play on the snow and maybe doing some outdoor children kind of activities…
Which ski resort would you recommend?
