日本の近代化に大きく貢献したスコットランド人のグラバーさんの旧住宅が展示されています。この住宅は世界遺産に登録されています。この旧グラバー住宅の周りから見える川、街、そして稲佐山の風景がとても良かったです。晴れていたのでラッキーでした。

We liked the old building and the room set ups. We missed the performances as we were between our excursions. The gardens were well kept and the views over the harbour were very pleasant.
There is a small entrance fee too.
The little musuem had many small boats which were interesting too. It led into a small gift shop.

思ったより広くて行き巡が分からなくなってしまったりした、
グラバー園の上に行くまではエスカレーターがあり良かった！

If you have good weather and time, then this attraction is well worth the 620 Yen entrance fee. The views from the observation decks were wonderful. This is definitely a peaceful retreat from the city. There were numerous historic homes documenting Glover's business activities and influence. Nestled in a treed area was a statue of Puccini with a butterfly on his shoulder. We enjoyed watching a variety of people parade around the grounds in Victorian costumes that were available for rent. A great place for couples.

The Glover Gardens attraction is one of the many highlights of our trip to Nagasaki. It has much to offer:
1. The views of the harbor are breathtaking. It is a truly picturesque spot.
2. The gardens are beautiful and well-kept.
3. The Western-influenced buildings are mostly restored (some still in process) and offer a taste of the era when outside trade with Japan was opening up.
4. The history of the era and the figures who owned the homes is presented in Japanese and English text as you make your way through the buildings along the way.
5. The lovely teahouse is a great spot to take a break and soak in the surrounding views while enjoying some refreshments.
Be prepared to get your steps in, but they have moving walkways to the top if you enter from below at the office (as we did).

The Glover Garden usually opens at 8 AM. We got there about 8:10 AM, and we were two of the first few people in the complex. We were able to take many pictures without other people in the background. By 9:30 AM, we could see a lot more people around. If you prefer to take those perfect pictures with just you and your companion(s), definitely get there as soon as it opens.
I also recommend entering from the 2nd gate. There are two gates to the Glover Garden. The 1st gate will require some uphill walk and climbing steps. If you come from the tram stop, Ishibashi, take the Glover Sky Road, and enter the 2nd gate. This gate is located at the highest point of the garden complex, and you can just walk downward to the 1st gate. After some research and actual practice, in Nagasaki, going up by elevators or transportation and walking downward made sense to me.
The Glover Garden consists of many buildings which were relocated near Thomas Glover’s house. It could take time to visit all of them. It was extraordinary to imagine Mr. Glover walking around in his yard overlooking the shipyard that he enormously contributed to build and expand. His life story was quite out of ordinary as well.

A beautiful sight breathing so much history. When trying to understand Japan’s history, a visit to this garden provides its visitors with some interesting pieces. Apart from the interesting historical houses, it boasts fantastic views on the harbor.

行くには坂道を登って更に階段で、公園を見て回るのに平均40分ぐらいかかります。長崎の観光スポットなので行ってみたんだけど、私はイギリスから来たので、これ私にとっては普通って感じでしたね。グラバーさんはイギリス人だったんで、日本との交流や貿易、親日であった事などを色々知る事ができて良かったです。オランダ人が長崎に住んでいた事を知っていたけど、イギリスと日本の関係についての知識はほぼ皆無だったので、この公園の歴史部分が1番面白かった点だったと思います。
坂道には多くのお土産屋やカステラ店があります。
残念ながら、観光客どころか人自体が非常に少なくて、どうやって商売しているのかなとちょっと気になりました。カフェにも人があまりいなくて意外でした。6月下旬に行ったし、人がもう少しいるかな思っていたけど、割と静かでした。結構綺麗な庭なので、活気が戻ってくるといいですね。

大学１年男子(息子)と大学休学中女子(娘)と3人で
３日から３日間の長崎と大阪旅。
長崎県営野球場（長崎ビッグNスタジアム）では
プロ野球オープン戦
埼玉西武ライオンズvs広島東洋カープ戦。
京セラドーム大阪では
侍ジャパンvsオーストラリア戦を
楽しませていただきました。
長崎県では長崎新地中華街でランタンフェスティバル
大浦天主堂…グラバー園…グラバー通り…軍艦島…
足早となりましたが3人で楽しませていただきました。
建物の美しさは勿論のこと
眺めもお庭も美しいです。
ハートの石があることを今思い出しました。
ガイドの方にお願いして見学するのもよいと
感じました。
日本人シェフによる初めての西洋レストラン
自由邸でティータイムを過ごさせていただき
ました。
とても素晴らしい空間でいただいた
ダッチコーヒーとケーキの美味しさにも
感激💧
3人で美味しくいただきました。
次回は晴れた日にお邪魔させていただきたく思いました。

咲き誇っていたお庭は今も心に残ります。

It is an open air museum in Nagasaki that exhibits mansions of several of the city's former foreign residents and related buildings. It is on the hill where Western merchants settled down after the end of Japan's era of seclusion in the 2nd half of the 19th century.
A huge place to walk around. You’ll need about 1h to complete the entire garden. 1-2 parts were closed for renovation when I was there on 8 Jun 2023.

Hiya, we were there approx 2hrs but really could've happily stayed longer. We were only in Nagasaki for the day (cruise) and spent longer than we anticipated at the Peace Garden & museum area on the opposite side of the city. Only regret was only having the single day there though, Glover Gardens are lovely and Ground Zero area truly awesome. Enjoy.

Is it far from the cruise terminal? Also it possible go there without booking a tour?

Yes to both . Definitely you don't need a tour guide . It's not too far away from the cruise terminal. Grab a taxi and you should be there within 15 minutes . When you are done with it and if the weather permits, you can consider walking back to the cruise terminal .
