There's a small gallery section here but that's about it. The main building has been taken up by a filming studio. Entry was free on our visit but it's just out of the way and a waste of time unless your doing the botanical gardens or live around sentral come visit.

Li Ling is a walking time machine and a great story teller.
I felt like walking into the past while Li Ling explained the process of each era and development.
Worth a day spend in going through the tour with a super professional Muzium Guide.

Two days ago I revisited National Museum. My first and last visit was in 1979. Ms Ong Li Ling was our Museum Guide for a small group of 5 of us. I must praise her for her in-depth knowledge of the history of Malaysia. She has almost had all the answers to our questions. The other important mention is, even though the Aircond in the Museum wasn’t working properly yet she was ever so patient in explaining to us and even reward us with mini Kit Kat Chocolates when we answered her questions correctly. This is really showing her passions in letting us know all knowledge possible. Thank you Li Ling.

The museum went through extensive renovations and it is airy and modern. There are 4 halls : Pre-History, Malay Kingdoms, Colonial Era and Malaysia Today. Outside there are old vehicles and trains, as well as an old royal house.
Any visitor would benefit from the crash course on the history of Malaysia on display at the Muzium Negara.
Thank you for the free guided tour conducted by volunteer guide - Ms. Ong Li Ling whom passionate to share the rich cultural heritage of this country. Kudos !

Me and my wife decided to spend Sunday afternoon at the National Museum. She contacted Ong Li Ling to be our tour guide. Li Ling patiently took us through all 4 exhibition halls A, B, C & D and even helped us to take many pictures. We learned a lot about Malaysia’s rich history and culture. Thank you Li Ling for making this a memorable experience for us 😃

Good museum, especially the Colonial section. We didn't allow long enough so will return another time. The air conditioning wasn't working when we visited so it was a bit uncomfortable. Most of the staff were very helpful and it was nice that you can get out without being forced through the gift shop!

My last visit to this museum was about 8 years ago. It was still the same when I visited today. The 4 galleries still exhibit the same things - the history of Malaysia, Malaysia today, its cultures and the prehistoric era. The ambience looks gloomy, sad and a bit run down.
It has two new extensions, next the the main building, on the Malay World Etnology and Aboriginal, which are interesting. Staff are knowledgeable when asked to explain about the exhibitions - well done.

visited Muzeum Negara with some friends on Saturday at the encouragement of Ms Ong Li Ling, a volunteer with the Muzeum.
certainly learnt much. was simply blown away by the fact that our land has been long inhabited by our early ancestors - there is evidence to suggest there were activities about 300,000 years ago especially in the northern part of the peninsula! was also heartened to note that the architecture of the muzeum as well as the external beautiful mural are contributed by the talent of the diverse multiracial malaysians, a testament to the unity in diversity of our national fabric.
certainly much more could be added to enrich the contemporary section of the Museum to reflect the diverse reality of Malaysia.
Li Ling’s guiding was really helpful. She is knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and her wonderful narrative lent much meaning and context to the exhibits bringing them to life. The visit certainly would not have been as enriched without her accompaniment. 5 stars to Li Ling’s guiding effort ❤️

National Museum Negara - here's one of the most impressive places for me in KL. Many exhibit are the real, and let us know the mysteries of human being's history.

How to get there on foot from KL Sentral? I read on their website that there are pedestrian pathway & signboards but from google map it doesn't look like I can cross big roads between KL Sentral & national museum.

Hi,
Yes you can, but it's not simple due to road works.
Look on Google Maps or other and look behind the Hilton and Le Meridien.
There is a road that goes around the back and toward a Y shaped junction.
If you look to follow the right hand side to lead across the two dual carriageways below, which itself leads to 5 or 6 lane road before its splits, there are stairs down in the right.
The footway is terrible by UK standards and is certainly not disabled or buggy friendly.
The steps down from the road you need lead to the MRT station being built by the museum.
Do you regret asking??!! 😃😃
is there a dress code??

No dress code. But avoid being scantily dressed, or ultra-short shorts.
