The national monument is a place wherein you can learn about Malaysia. Our tour guide provided a brief history about this place and this is a must-visit place for tourists if you want to understand the past of Malaysia. Make sure to bring a hat or umbrella when you visit.

If you’ve seen pictures of this monument, does it remind you of Iwo Jima? Why are the Malaysian soldiers wearing US cowboy hats? Is the Designer American and forgot what he was designing for?
Pretty grounds very calm and nice vistas. I would put this as a third tier on my itinerary of Kuala Lumpur.

Inside the park, this immense bronze structure was built as a monument to the soldiers who gave up their lives for their country. This sculpture depicts seven soldiers holding the Malaysian flag, each symbolizing one of the seven qualities; unity, strength, leadership, sacrifice, courage, suffering and vigilance. It was sculpted by Felix de Weldon, who sculpted the famous Iwo Jima Memorial statue in Virginia, United States.

This is a very impressive monument commemorating the fallen of World Wars 1 and 11 and the Malayan Emergency. The site includes the Cenotaph, Pavillion, Self-reflecting pool and the Bronze Statue. The Pavilion is crescent shaped with three domes atop, the ceilings are emblazoned with the emblems of the many regiments that served in Malaysia during WW11 and the Malayan Emergency. A metal enclosure under the central dome houses a vault containing microfilm which records the names of the fallen. The bronze statue depicts seven members of the security forces, one holding the Malaysian national flag aloft. The soldiers symbolise leadership, suffering, unity, vigilance, strength, courage and sacrifice; five representing the victorious allied forces and the two lying at the base the defeated communist insurgents. It was designed by American, Felix de Weldon, famed for his Iwo Jima Memorial in Arlington Cemetery.

The monument immediately evokes associations. Where have we seen all this before?! Of course, at the most patriotic monument of the United States - the US Marine Corps War Memorial in the suburbs of Washington in Arlington County, near the walls of Arlington National Cemetery. Similar? Maybe. The author is the same - the famous Felix de Weldon, an Austrian sculptor. But I still liked this local monument better! The fifteen-meter tall bronze sculpture, one of the tallest in the world, is surrounded along the perimeter by a water channel with fountains and decorative tin lilies. At least in the pictures. When we came here, the area and fountains were being put in order and there was no direct access to the monument. To examine it from the front, we had to make a long detour through the park. In general, of course, a wonderful idea and project - on a high hill above a picturesque park, above a botanical garden, with fountains. The stele behind the sculpture reflects mournful dates for the country - two world wars and one big civil conflict or civil war!

The national monument is accessible every day from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Free on-site parking makes visiting the place easy, otherwise also accessible on foot or via public transport. The monument is located north of the botanical garden, not far from the national museum.
Access is free. It is a monument dedicated to the 11,000 lives lost during the Rising in the country's history.
Unfortunately when we went there, everything was under construction, we were unable to approach the statue. So we had to walk along the barrier on the side and take photos between the bars. Damage.

Happened to stop by on my way to the sculpture garden. Convenient, as I wanted to see it anyway.
Dissapointingly, the monument is currently closed off while work takes place on the grounds. So you can see it from afar, but not as well as otherwise.
It lacks seating to enable one to sit and contemplate.
2 stars only because of the current limited access.

How long we need to visit the entire park
Skrevet 5. desember 2016
The monument itself takes 5-10 min. The area around it is nice to walk and close to the botanical, bird, and butterfly park. So that would take half a day.
