MKSP is a great state park. It's urban in the SE part of Austin. But the location had advantages like supplies nearby. About the only noise came from air traffic which became white noise. The park feels safe with the gates closing at 10PM and a ranger making regular rounds. The shower house exceeded expectations: immaculate, heated and hot water. Every staff member we encountered was extremely friendly and helpful. Our site was level for our RV and didn't have any major overhang. Neighbors were respectful of each other with minimal noise. Our dogs talked us into booking another trip this summer.

Beautiful area for a hike. Rugged terrain to get to the falls - lots of limestone to walk over, but worth the hike. Clean restrooms, nice picnic facilities. $6/pp admission.

Went here to fill time while visiting Austin. It was worth the time. Cool falls and scenery. I did not like that you had to wade through the river to follow the trail to the other side. It's not fun hiking in wet shoes. They need a bridge.

We really enjoyed the day at the park. We hiked alot and found the trails to be well kept. Just keep in mind, the day pass is not an in and out, so bring your lunch! You can get your tickets online and it makes park entry a breeze. Start your hike as early as possible to avoid crowds.

Nice hiking trails, some are even paved. The waterfalls are a must see. There are campsites and swimming.

The water holes and falls are so much fun. My kids always love jumping off the cliffs into the water - they could do that all day long and swimming around in the water holes. We also like to fish towards the evening and hike on the many trails that they have. Bring water shoes. We load up and spend the entire day there.

We had a really nice walk around the park. The falls were kind of... underwhelming if you have been to other waterfalls. No staff around so people being stupid when jumping into the falls.

This park is in no way ADA accessible. The hard surface trail is broken and contains difficult grade in some places. The Upper Falls can be reached by wheelchair but only if you go down a steep hill; it is too steep to climb with a scooter. The trees are so grown around the river that it is almost impossible to find a suitable place to fish. There are many fishing lures hanging from the trees.

We camped at for 1 week. The bath house is not ADA and the water pressure in the shower was horrible. I could not rinse the soap out of my hair. The site itself was very large and shaded. Much larger than we have seen in most state parks. Very beautiful scenery and wildlife.

This park has so much natural beauty it is difficult to get around unless you can walk or bicycle. There are no cut thru or easy routes to access this parks beautiful features. We saw many deer, wild turkeys, birds, etc. The falls are gorgeous but were not flowing well in March. If you choose to bicycle, there are no bicycle racks for you bikes. Many ended up just lying them down on the ground.

I write this review to try and give some feedback to anyone in charge here. I’m sure the McKinney Falls are nice but I wouldn’t know because my husband and I were turned away at the gate (by 2 state park personnel) because they were at capacity for that day and we didn’t have a reservation. That’s fine. I understand we are all doing our best in this crazy Covid world. What bothered me about the situation was that my husband and I had tried calling here several times starting first thing in the morning. It literally rang 20 times before he hung up and tried to call again a half hour later (we called four times total). No one ever answered. HAD someone answered the phone, we would have been told then that the park was already full for the day and wouldn’t have wasted 2.5 hours of our day driving out here just to be turned away. I don’t know why you need two people to work a front gate but maybe that extra person could be in the office answering phones and you wouldn’t need to turn as many people away because they would have already been told over the phone that the park was full. Just a thought.

Located 10 miles (23 mins) from downtown Austin this SP was by far our cheapest park during our stay in Austin at $20 day for W/E You do have to pay a daily state park fee if you do not have a state park pass ($3 a day pp)

They have miles of trails and stock the pond in the winter for people who like to fish.

Biggest cons: limited amenities, only one dump station, added cost of getting into downtown ($20 Lyft.)

Biggest perk: the park is full of beautiful trees, sites are enormous and at $20 the price is unbeatable. If when you try to book there are no sites you may want to check again once your dates approach, this park is full year round.

Good to know:
Ice/firewood available
There are only 12 sites with 50 amp service
The front gate locks at 10pm - gate access code given at check in

Updated review after second stay (Feb 2021):

We still think it’s the best place to RV camp in the Austin area. It’s affordable, close enough to town to use rideshares and has all the perks of a state park. Trails are easy to explore and well marked and sites give ample room and privacy between sites.
