I was thrilled to find a beautiful glass earrings and necklace. Very reasonably priced and would have been 2-3x in downtown boutiques. All the employees volunteer their time to show their work. They were so nice. Nice crafts at fair prices.It was the only place that I bought things during my stay. a block away from the capital.

Take some time to check out the art, history and crafts this place has to offer. It's not a bakery, but it was still a cool place to visit.

I am always hoping to find a place like this when I travel. A shop with locally made art and crafts, with a number of excellent souvenirs. Depending on the type of things you like, you could spend 15 to 30 minutes looking through the shop.
Additionally, the two staff people in the shop were warm and welcoming. I overheard them giving people advice on places to go and things to do. And when I wanted to get a piece shipped (which they were not equipped to do) they put me in touch with the artist who arranged it for me. Wonderful service.

place 2 buy some homemade knickknacks for souvenirs..there is some information on the city and a small museum telling u about the original owners..I walked in while the seniors were having a presentation in the early evening. They had some snacks..and I learned about the original owners

This building is now a place for elderly to present their lovely hand made work, it’s a museum and an art gallery! What a lovely place full of love and amazing people happy to help! They had a lot of information about Austin and fun, interesting things to do here, maps and activities! I will definitely come back with more time before I go! Walking distance to the Capitol and full of gift and souvenirs to take home! The people were so nice and warm I wished I had more time to just sit down and chat with them! I hope someday they have a small coffee shop here so that more will take advantage of visiting. We were in the city looking for other things to do and called in here. Very helpful people, particularly J!. gave us good information about things to do and see. They have many things for sale in the shop, more arty than touristy but worth a browse

Based on previous reviews, I didn't expect to like this place as much as I did... guess I am a true history buff because I thought it was delightful! If you take the time to LOOK, there is a lot to see here. Yes, there are some great, locally made items for purchase, but the building itself is living testament to the history of this town. And upstairs houses a really nice local history exhibit displaying items used or worn by the original inhabitants. The upstairs also has an art exhibit and boasts pretty fabulous views of the Texas State Capitol. Absolutely lovely visit and definitely recommend!

The cafe closed some years ago. Find unique one of a kind arts and crafts by local artists. The art gallery and history center are located on the 3rd floor. Opening Art Receptions are the 1st Friday of the month, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

This is a great stop to pick up some local flavor in the form of arts, crafts and photos. The downstairs is chock full of colorful gifts and jewelry in a wide range of prices. I picked up a beautiful glass suncatcher for $17, but saw some lovely handmade cards and jewelry too. Upstairs is a photo gallery and secondary room with interesting historical information.

We met so many nice people on our trip to Texas, I’ve lost count. One that stands out in my mind though was Shane at the Visitors' Center at the Old Bakery & Emporium. The reason for our trip was to move my nephew to Austin to a new job. When we started asking Shane so many questions about Austin, he quickly figured out that this was going to be a whole new life in Texas for this young person and could not have been more helpful. He told us so many things about the city and where to go, we left the center excited and more confident about my nephew’s new life in Texas.
