trails were fun with varying levels of difficulty. Recommend hiking boots. At times it felt as if we were the only ones in the park. Occasionally we would come across some friendly folks scattered here and there (which was nice when we got a little turned around!). Park manager was super friendly and informative. Area is well maintained.

I took an Interpretive Hike with a guide (John) from the Center. It was great and very informative. It's a great place with different trails to choose from. Some, like the waterfall walk, are pretty steep and challenging. Well worth the time to be in a wonderful preserve.

This is a lovely hike any time of year. Challenging if your gait is impaired (with a lot of inclines & steps up and down). Takes about an hour and a 1/2 to complete at a brisk pace. One of my favs!

Grandson joined on a Saturday. Fine wilderness park that is close-in to Austin on its far west side (Loop 360). Reservations are required on weekends (along with a small admission fee). Uncertain whether weekday visits require reservations. Note that no pets are permitted. The trails are generally circuitous in nature and really well maintained. Should you want to hike to Bee Creek (and its nice 5-6' waterfall), you'll encounter a not-overly-challenging elevation drop as you traverse the hillside to the creek's valley (and then the gain as you return). The route that we followed was approx 3 miles start to finish - a fairly leisurely 1-1/2 hours. We arrived approx 8am and saw two other individuals on our trail. Quite lovely. Good shade. Wonderful views at certain points along the ridgeline.

This is a lovely place. I took visitors from Pennsylvania and Washington State, and we all enjoyed it. My only complaint is that the strictness of the hours for timed entering on the weekend are impractical when the weather is iffy. It seems that having the guards knowing what is happening the rest of the day with reservations could provide improved flexibility. I understand limiting attendance, but when very few people are there or very few upcoming reservations, why not encourage more people to enjoy this treasure that encourages environmental sensitivity. 7

I drove by this place many times and wanted to hike here. But it was closed due to covid for awhile. Once opened I finally decided to do the timed weekend reservation. The booking online was simple and they send you and email reminder so you dont forget your time and date. On arrival the lady attending the gate was friendly and explained where to park and get a digital map from the kiosk. Not that you will need the map much unless you are directionally challenged. The trails are nicely marked. I started to the left on the Arroyo Vista Loop and almost immediately you start getting some great views of the Hill Country. The trails continue to take you down down down and eventually you encounter Bee Creek and a sign directing you to the waterfall. It has been dry here this months so the waterfall was just a large trickle so that is one thing I will return for once we get some healthy rain around here. The area around the waterfall however was gorgeous The trails were clean and well maintained. The restroom at the trailhead was clean and well maintained. Upon leaving the same woman was at the gate along with a security guide and they invited me back during the week to hike fee free! We exchanged info about hiking apps. Nice nice place and people. Warning: if you go don't bring your dog! This is a wildlife preserve and you will be turned away if you bring your dog.

Nice trails, some shade, some not. Fairly easy, with some up/down hills but nothing too taxing. Evidently now you need to have reservations, and there is an entrance fee. We just pulled in on a recent Saturday afternoon, not realizing we needed reservations (been coming here for years, but did not know they started a reservation system). The attendant at the front told us we had to go online on our phone and make a reservation (even though she said there was no one currently there on the trails!!) and when we made the reservation online it charged us $5/adult plus a service fee. Be mindful that dogs are not allowed, nor bicycles. Very pretty, but somewhat limited for a serendipitous hike!

We were looking for a new spot, coming from Temple area. Wild Basin did not disappoint. My kids ages 5-13 all likes it. It has varied grades with steps throughout. Very shady for most of it. It was raining for first five minutes, so the trail was slick. Waterfall wasn’t huge, but the sounds were beautiful. I would say it’s a difficult of 3 out 5. My 5yo had a hard time after awhile, so we carried him for the flatter parts. Overall, would recommend and would return If there weren’t so many others that we have yet to visit!!

Great place for a moderate hike in a serene and peaceful environment with family or a small group, The preserve is conveniently located right off of 360, the trails are well maintained and easy to explore in couple of hrs offering scenic spots and benches along the way. It was easy to reserve online and was surprised there was staff and security guard on property to check you in and make sure you are safe during the visit.

What a gem! I took my boys out for a hike on Christmas Eve day. The staff and security where fantastic and friendly. Free during the week. We had reservations (weekends/holidays require reservations), but there were not very many people hiking that day. I was impressed that the trails were very well marked and maintained. I will be going back again very soon. Easy drive too!
