Very small park no bathrooms besides a porta potty or two out front. Short hike to the water and some cute ponds to see Lilly pads. But would not go again. Did not see any info or staff to ask questions.

Definitely visit in the spring - not winter. There is very limited parking.. we didn’t see any peacocks, which was disappointing.. the trails are rocky and tree roots jut up throughout them.. I would imagine in the spring it is much prettier and more bird activity

We saw peacocks as soon as we parked. Very cool to see them roaming around. We also took a short nature walk on the well marked trails. Definitely worth a stop but the peacocks roam so you may have to listen for them and try to find them. They are pretty loud! There was plenty of parking for us on a Monday morning in January.

We went expecting to see tons of peacocks based on posts. Maybe they have a shelter when it's a bit warmer? We'd go back on a better weather day and give it another try if we are ever in the area again.

Been to this place on 7th July 2023
visited with my friend and found this place tucked away from the major attractions, however is popular amongst the locals.
Peacocks and Peahens welcome you to this place with the most human friendly behaviour and photo options which will surprise all.
There are landscaped gardens and water bodies inside the mail park and one can book trail walk which runs round the flora and fauna of the area.
This place is visited by family with young children and is very educative to the young and also helps them to develop understanding with nature.
Do as the locals do.

Great park in Austin that allows you to get away from the city. It was really busy when I went, but there are enough trails that I did not run into many people while hiking.

Really beautiful and the peacocks are absolutely everywhere just being stunning. Who knew they could get so far up in the trees or watch them fly or be so close. Beautiful little curated ponds and plants, it’s probably just us but we took a weird trail and ended up becoming not a trail and felt a bit lost. So if there’s a main trail, stick to that. Nice benches to sit, bring some water and snacks for a chill time.
Not a very big place so that’s worth knowing in terms of time. Saw a lot of families with little kids there. Will probably take my mom there but also nice to just spend with friends or go on a date.

A hidden gem.
The peacocks!!!!!
Lots of shade.
I agree that the only downside/more so because I have to be careful because of a tricky back is that the lovely trails and even the patio around around the house are a little precarious. Doable, even for me, but watch your step.
If you enjoy nature, this a a lovely place and the trails are just the right size.
Restrooms on the premises would be welcome, rather than the port o potties.
You can make your way through trails to your right to Laguna Gloria museum.

Stepping into historic Mayfield Park and Nature Preserve, formerly called the Mayfield-Gutsch Estate, is not unlike stepping into a tranquil oasis what with the towering palm trees, lush gardens, lily and koi fish filled ponds and brilliant peacocks roaming free around the 23-acre property. Located at 3505 West 35th Street in Austin, Texas, on a bluff overlooking Lake Austin, immediately adjacent to Laguna Gloria, home to the Austin Museum of Art, it also boasts a historic, picturesque cottage available for weddings and event rentals. In addition, the park includes 21 acres of scenic hiking trails teeming with wildlife that surrounds the estate. Open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, the park was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. Allison Mayfield, a prominent Austin political figure who once served as Texas Secretary of State, purchased the board and batten, twin-gabled cottage and 23 acres for his family as a summer and weekend retreat in 1909. Mayfield's daughter Mary and her husband, Dr. Milton Gutsch, who was chairman of the History Department at the University of Texas at Austin for many years, moved into the cottage in 1922. They added porches to three sides of the house, reflecting the bungalow style of the early 20th century. Together, they developed the site over a period of 62 years, designing the botanical gardens and directing the building of the stone walls, ponds and garden features with the help of Steve Arredondo, the park's resident gardener for many years. The peacocks were gifts from friends in 1935 and their descendants freely roam the property today.

Nice park with a bunch of trails that follow the creek. I somehow walked in circles and ended up back at my car on accident. I also walked up to Mount Bonnell from the parking lot. Plenty of spaces.

I recall some benches but not sure about tables. I would think you can picnic there

Where exactly is this cottage?me and my husband just ended up in the reserve hiking we couldn't find the cottage where the peacocks are😂😂😂 sad tho🤔🤔

From where I parked, the trails were on the right, and the cottage was on the left. I added a photo (likely still being reviewed by Trip Advisor) to help clarify.

Is this park free, if not how much just to see and take pictures?
Thank you,

Yes, it is free. Take lots of film or a car charger for your camera or phone. You could do it in an hour, but the best experience is if you can spend several hours there, possibly, pack a small lunch and enjoy. Even small kids, if they are under control, will enjoy this. It is also a great place to put down a blanket and listen to music on your headphones. I love the place. Many more people there on the weekend, but I have never seen it crowded except when the park is reserved for special events.
Enjoy!
