Really cool and unique place hidden in a real parking garage- it's beneath the winding ramp. So the decor is really unique and different. Great bar menu with creative drinks and great vibe

Had to go and see this place. It is very unique. Great service, drinks were very good and the vibe was awesome. Literally you are in a parking garage- of course in Austin. Go and have fun.

Amazing atmosphere, solid service and drinks. Would suggest getting Lillet Blanc for a proper Vesper Martini :)

When I heard about this place, I had to check it out! I had seen a picture online and found it by the "Garage" neon lights, as there was no other signage I saw. When we walked in, it immediately felt several degrees cooler; when added to the dim lighting, it was definitely a mystique ambiance. The drinks weren't cheap, but they weren't any more expensive than other places we visited that night. We tried the Coat of Many Colors, the Indian Paintbrush and the Old Fashioned ($11-13 each). My son loved that they played vinyl records. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and I would definitely recommend and return.

Enjoyed a happy hour drink here. Liked the dark atmosphere. Unique place that is worth checking out. Nice vibes.

What I'm comparing it against: upscale, intimate cocktail bars in medium-sized cities.
Vibe: Beautiful. As others have reported--small, in a parking garage, dimly light, intimate, and you'll feel that you've entered a secret society. Music I think is played straight off of a hi-fi player...various types of jazz and avant-garde stuff from the 60s and 70s. Rivals any speakeasy bar setting in larger cities. No televisions, which is a good thing (televisions have their place in sports bars and neighborhood joints, but it would just screw up the vibe in places like this.
Drinks: Excellent drinks and extensive drink menu (don't believe there's food). This is a good place to branch out and try spirits you normally don't drink.
Service: From the doorman to the bartenders, everyone here is extremely friendly and good at what they do.
Summary: Loved it here, and can't wait to come back when I visit Austin again. Right up there with favorites around the country like Bar Shiru (Oakland), Mace (NYC), The Violet Hour (Chicago), and The Elk Room (Balitmore. Yes, Baltimore!).

I didn't quite know what to expect but checked this place out with some friends while visiting Austin. Wow, I am so glad we did! We had to wait a little bit to get in but once inside, loved it. The drinks were awesome, and I was thrilled to see that they were playing vinyl records - what a cool touch. Will totally come back here someday if I can. It's a small spot so I wouldn't recommend you go with a big group at peak hours but it works well for a couple or small group!

The only reason I gave The Garage Bar 3 stars is because of the drinks, bartenders and the fact that it is in a parking garage. The servers, hostess and bouncer, if that’s what he is called, were terrible! I kept being told “the hostess is really good at her job”- wrong. She sucks. The place is so pretentious and as we were leaving the lady next to me described her drink as tasting like autumn, so what, tasting like leaves and dirt? The Official Drink of Austin from 2013 comes from The Garage, The Indian Paintbrush, but the Dripping Springs Distillery should keep it for themselves as it is their vodka. I won’t go back there until the hostess and “bouncer” are gone. So maybe I should have given it 2 stars.

The Garage is literally underneath a downtown Austin parking garage. It's an austere place with concrete everywhere but at night with the low light and flickering candles it is transformed into a cool and comfortable spot. Great cocktails are served up (one of my favourites - Penicillin (two types of whisky with ginger and honey) - was available and only the second place I've seen it served) and they play vinyl records for the musical background (a Beatles album the night we were there). Service was excellent and the prices very reasonable. Do stop by!

Awesome bar for specialty and craft cocktails. Brian was awesome - try the Junglebird or Old Fashion with Rum or Bourbon. Bar is inside a garage so look carefully. Highly recommend - feel, temp, sounds and all senses.
