Was disappointed and expected to see more. Was not actually operating and only a self guided tour on one level. Not a great deal to see and needs greater restoration. Nearby general store is worth a visit with a mix of old used stuff and some jellies and jams for purchase. Yellow Grits at $4 for a 2lb bag is a nice deal. If you are in Abingdon worth a visit but not worth driving any long distance to see, unless you have a tick off list of old mills to visit.

Although not far from the town of Abingdon, this is a lovely spot in a rural setting. The “tour” is self guided if you wander by - which we did during the first week it has opened in months, due to Covid closures. We went primarily to pick up some stone-ground cornmeal (a practical souvenir for your cornbread loving friends) and had a nice wander around the Whites Mill Mercantile store across the road. Books, cards, jams and jellies, curiosities, jewelry, vintage items, and local handmade items - the couple working there were friendly and helpful. We found the mill in good shape, and helped us imagine the day when it must have been a hub of the community.

this is an old non operating mill. Much of the equipment is in the building with signs describing what each was used for. Three stories to explore. I would not make a special trip to see it, but if you are close by and like old mills in picturesque countryside, you would enjoy it. Across the street, visit the old general store, full of interesting items for sale, along with flour and grits.

This place was advertised on Visitor Center brochures and in the Virginia Highlands Festival catalog and so we were surprised on that weekend that there was no staff or volunteer person in the Mill and no one in the Mercantile when we were there. The Mill is disorderly and no real organization to the layout. With little information to go by it was a do-it-yourself tour for us. The stream is not even at the Mill and must have been re-routed at some prior time.
The Mercantile was filled floor to ceiling in several rooms with canned goods, dolls, antiques, wreaths, an amazing number of things. But was hard to look at any one thing since it was overcrowded with stuff and in some areas difficult to walk through. This tourist attraction was not what we expected having been to other restored grain mills previously.

We went to this spot which is on the Historical Registry and were seriously disappointed. I wasn't even sure it was safe to walk through. We went to the store across the street and the owner didn't even acknowledge our presence. glad we didn't have to pay for it!

This old mill could use a little TLC to make it come back to life. Interesting place to visit if you're into that sort of thing. There is a shop across the street that is jam packed with a variety of old and new goods.

The mill is open but not running. The tour is self guided and will take you about 5 minutes. There is a little store accross the street with many different items from crafts to baby gifts and more. The view was nice. It was free and a short drive from town if you have extra time to spend.
