Far too easy to get lost and not enough eateries there, plus I'm not sure why "Go Ape" haven't set up a jungle adventure there, it would make a killing and be great for tourism

The Amazon Rainforest is surreal - an experience that defies words. (Requires moderate fitness and perhaps not for first time travelers.) We took the slow ferry down the Amazon from Tabatinga to Manaus and stayed in an eco-lodge run by a local community about 2 hours away from Manaus on the Rio Negro. We took boats out twice a day with a local guide to different areas along the river for a variety of experiences in the forest. The flooded black waters are the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in my life. The jungle trails offer a variety of plants, trees, and birds that are spectacular. We even swam in a few areas! If it’s on your bucket list, don’t wait! I suggest July or August when the water level is still relatively high, but still allows jungle walks.

If you want to get to know the Amazon for real this is the right guy, we did an incredible expedition last year, to the region of western Pará in the National Park of the Amazon and we had incredible experiences in the middle of the forest.

I definitely recommend a visit, and there is much to commend the Lindblad/NG trip, but it was exhausting at times. The guides worked their butts off, were very knowledgeable, and could not have been nicer. Amazing food. But the pacing was at times baffling. I don’t think there was a single night where I could get 8 hours of sleep. The only buffet was at breakfast. Lunch and dinner were full, multi-course meals. Often dinner would be late, 8:15 pm, followed by, say, a need to be up by 5 am. The animals could only be seen early and late, but why not have a light dinner buffet? Who wants to go to bed on a full stomach? We are 67 and 68, in shape. The median age was close to 60. The trip was run as if everyone was under 40. Many events, talks throughout day. Little down times most days. It was very hot and humid. They wanted everyone maximally covered , which made it still hotter. I am an avid hiker, but the Amazon is not a place for major hikes. Skiff trips worked the best, and with the water rising, we could get to more places. Both girlfriend and I had GI issues. One person had to return to Iquitos for hospital visit, but could do most of trip. Very nice employee did a great job of getting us to our airline at the end of trip. Don’t miss the amazing Larco museum in Lima.

Researching this Cebidae primate was over whelming. These common squirrel monkeys (Saimiri sciureus) at the Rio Negro, Amazon near Manaus, Brazil; were the friendliest lot I had ever seen. May be they found something in common with me, after all.
The Amazon forest in South America is the most fascinating store house of the worlds carbon kingdom, you could ever imagine. It is an intricate archipelago of narrow green ribbons of forest, punctuated by the Amazon river and its tributaries. If you ever hit for the South American discovery, do not leave out the Amazon forests, enjoy the earth in it smost natural state, believe me.
Well, let me tell you more about these little squirrel monkeys. The crown lineage of the squirrel monkeys appears to have diverged around 1.5 million years ago. Imagine!!
This new world monkey does not use its tail for climbing, although when you watch it move, you observe it kind of uses it as a tool and balancing pole of sorts to help him jump from one spot to another. Their movements in the branches can be very rapid.
They live together in groups. These little chimps kept giving out vocal calls, warning sounds to the rest of the troupes, I guess they were either protecting themselves or calling in the rest of the gang to show me off. I guess the later.
They are so tiny and hairy, but alert at all times. Their small body size also makes them susceptible to predators .Squirrel monkeys are omnivores, eating primarily fruits and insects. Occasionally they also eat seeds, leaves, flowers, buds, nuts, and eggs.
The Amazon jungle is the largest tropical rainforest on Earth and a World Natural Heritage site. I drowned myself in its grandeur and was captivated by its wonder. It's dense forests made for excellent hiking trails, intense smells and foilage kept drawing me into the thickest depth of the jungle life I have ever experienced. I just didn’t want to leave.
The Amazon Jungle trail from the Manaus waters is the best way to ensure that you see the Rivers meeting and take an Amazon river boat into the heart of the jungle.
Thick forested areas and many animals to spot. The squirrel monkeys were such a delight!
Wilderness is where I belong and God am going back!! Every night before I sleep I say a prayer for the rainforests of the world, may they multiply, may they be left alone; and may they continue to provide us the essence of life-Oxygen! Reuse,Reduce,Rethink and Replenish. We belong to the forest, the forest does not belong to us?! Respect Forests… A trip to Brazil and Manaus I a real eye opener, so don't miss Manaus while in South America.

do visitors with mild asthma have difficulties due to the high humidity?
Jerry A
Paris, Frankrike
As far as I know, the issue with asthma is dry air like when you go diving. I'd be concerned if I were allergic to pollen though on top of having asthma though. If you have asthma and are allergic to pollen, I suggest you take your emergency meds with you.

We will be shortly staying in the Juma Lodge for three nights. One of the tours is to a local village. Will there be local made souvenirs to purchase and if so what kind of price are they likely to be. I don't want to miss out

Hi Kathryn! On the tour I took, Amazon Green Tours, there were souvenirs made that I could purchase, somewhere $10-20 or 30-60 Real. I do not know specifically about the village you may be visiting but I would guess there will be some.

Hi,
My husband and I would like to visit the Rainforest next year. Which is the best season to go when it's not so rainy and humid but not too dry when there are fires everywhere?? We live in Hungary (so far away :) ) Can you recommend a shorter and affordable flight? Any information is highly appreciated! Thanks, Zsuzsanna

I'm looking for a tour of rainforest, concentration on wildlife, and vegetation. Love animals, even appreciate the beauty of snakes. A river cruise would be nice too. I'm a senior citizen and have been pampered a bit. No longer able to count on physical strength so can't be a boot camp vacation. Would appreciate info. May take a side trip to Uruguay where I have family.

I heard from an Amazon lodge owner in Manaquiri (SW of Manuas) that travel to the area was not recommended at this time (beginning of November and maybe not until December) due to the smoke from the fires. The owner said the smoke makes breathing difficult and I should not go. I have been trying to get more information on fires and smoke patterns in the area to see what areas are affected and if there was a part of the Amazon I could travel to. I cannot find any information regarding tourists. Any thoughts?
I found only this published online in an Asian Pacific Daily (Oct 2/15):
The number of fires in Brazil's Amazon rainforest increased due to severe drought that has been blighting the region, local authority said on Sunday.
According to the daily report by the Brazilian Institute for Space Research (INPE), satellites have detected 906 separate fires currently active in the rainforest, accounting for 59.1 percent of all active fires in Brazil.
Another 26.5 percent of active fires were found in the agricultural region of Cerrado, which extends across the states of Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goias, Tocantins and Minas Gerais.
The state of Amazonas, the heart of the largest rainforest in the world, saw 11,114 forest fires between January and Oct. 3 this year, which represents a 47-percent rise in the number of fires over the same period last year, according to the INPE.
Manaus, the capital city of Amazonas, has been reportedly wreathed in smoke, making people who suffered from respiratory diseases to seek medical attention.
According to the INPE, weak winds and a lack of rain have prevented the smoke from dispersing.
In the state of Para, the second largest Brazilian state after Amazonas, fires have risen by 25 percent year-on-year while they dropped by 6 percent in the small northern state of Roraima.
However, the rainy season is set to start in October, hopefully bringing these fires to an end.

Good morning !
I am Gero from Amazon Gero Tours
, Gero myself at your servisse.
I have receive through my e-mail a request about
tour prices,if it is cheaper booking in UK or in Manaus .
I think it depends on the tour you are looking for the price may change, for exemple a a good lodge no luxury but comfortable enough to be in the jungle may cost R$ 300,00 Reais ( Three Hundred Reais per day per person for a good lodge a private room with no hot shower but a shower and fan it is with a package meals, transport, guidance and activities.
For a very simple and rustic lodge it costs for a room
very simple R$ 180,00 per person per day

To whom it may concern
Good morning
I wish to let you know that I am the most tour company which comes very well recommended by the best travel books and
with a great number of excellent reviews through the best travel fóruns as tripadvisor so I am sure what I am going to answer
It is safer when you use recommended and official offices
as Amazon Gero Tours and few ones you should know.
Through e-mail it is pratical as you may garantee your room
specially for high season
shopping around visiting different agencies you wast time and maybe you do not find place for a good company anymore
If you hear for the best sales person who may wish to sell a zoo or even the most luxury of the jungle lodges Or even the most adventureous tours of the world.
when you receive na offer to have a tour swimming with the dolphins pay attention and do not let them at least to give iced fish and try fresh ones .
Indigineous tribe they are only indigenous communities which may make touristic show ,maybe interesting but it is better you get advised that it is a very touristic program
It is not good to use very small canoes or very small speedboat to navigate the two big rivers.
Take big ones even if you go on a private tour with 2 or 6 people but ask for a big one ,
Or if you go with 15 to 60 people together but use big canoes .
I advise you taking your tour via e-mail and phone to take off some daubts or whatsaap which Works very well
