Very confusing ticket system ! A man prevented us from going beyond the palace ticket office and forced us to buy a ticket for the garden and palace we then went to the botanical garden entrance- we had the wrong ticket - and needed to buy a separate ticket ! But we only wanted to go to the gardens ! They refunded us reluctantly. The gardens were disappointing. But then we were not allowed to go beyond a certain point as we had the wrong ticket. Unhelpful staff ! Except one lady who was initially unhelpful but then helped us to get out. I would recommend to avoid ! We then heard one of the refreshment sellers call us stupid tourists !

The place is nice, but the employees let us down from the beginning. The lady checking tickets at the entrance to the gardens was rude and unfriendly.
He mocked us and treated us like he was doing us a great service by letting us in.
Such people should not work in tourism.
We come and pay a lot of money and she behaves very badly.

The lady at the entrance to the complex is aggressive with tourists and she should not work in tourism.
I had an unpleasant experience, he made me pay an entrance ticket although I am a guide and I bring dozens of tourists.
I think you should fire such employees who do you a disservice.

Petit à l’intérieur, pas d’explications en Anglais. Cher pour se que c’est (7€50 juste le Palais). Donc Ne prenez que le ticket Jardin.

Beautiful place to visit. Especially for those who appreciate the contribution of the Royal Family in Romanian History.
Also, the botanical gardens are wonderful.

The staff from the entrance is not very nice, and this is a minus for this special place. There is a particular energy, its like a sanctuary and must be respected by everyone who works or enters like a visitor.

There were plastic bottles thrown into the waterfall near the palace.

Its a pointless thing to do that! Wake up, people!

They trick you into leaving and refuse reentry unless you pay again. Judging by the crying children and multiple families arguing with staff outside it wasn’t just ourselves that experienced this. Horrible aggressive tourist trap.

Witnessed a gentlemen being forced to buy another expensive ticket just to retrieve his glasses he left inside. We were told the palace was in a different place to the gardens and when we went the wrong way they wanted us to pay for four tickets again to carry on with our tour. Another family were being questioned as to whether their young children belonged to them when they tried to use there family pass. The ticket office sells you incorrect tickets and then won’t refund you or amend they make you to buy another.

Left a sour taste in our mouth after a lovely holiday. Would highly suggest avoiding.

As a Romanian passionate about history and Queen Mary - visiting the palace was an amazing experience. Do not expect a huge castle - as you will be disappointed. It was Queen Mary's retreat - a villa, a place very dear to her heart, built with respect to nature. It was her wish for the palace and gardens not to disturb or change the surroundings, but to blend in with nature.

The palace is not luxury, quite modest I'd say, but cute and charming at the same time. It is a part of a big complex, part of which, nowadays, is the Botanical Garden of Balchik. It was once (when South Dobrudja was a part of Romania) the residence of Queen Marie of Romania, born Marie Alexandra Victoria - Missy, Princess of Edinburgh.
The palace is too small, well renovated, built in Turkish style - a tower shaped as a minaret and a domed Turkish bath. A number of authentic furniture is well preserved - Queen's desk and bed, some wardrobes, chairs and cabinets in her boudoir and living room.
Lots of info-boards with plenty of facts and information are posted in the Palace and all around the gardens, in Bulgarian, English, Romanian and Russian. You can also see and make a photo in the stone throne, the Queen used to sit in and contemplate the sea and the horizon.
There are few other villas in the compound - in some of them lived the guards and the people taking care of the palace and the gardens, they had a cinema where all the servants with their families could watch the latest movies together with the Queen, there was a mini hydroelectric power plant that managed to satisfy all electric needs of the complex. The Queen had a small chapel, called "Stella Maris", there is a Roman loggia "Nympheum" as well. In one of the villas, "Prince Nikolay" or the "Blue Arrow", which was the Queen's winery, everyone can have a free wine degustation and, of course, can buy wine, some even made of raspberries and figs.
To enter the Palace, you will need to buy a separate ticket at the entrance to the complex.
The Queen loved Balchik and the sea and took an active part in designing the beautiful and attractive gardens.

Balchik Palace is really not a palace, but a wonderful retreat estate built on the beach at Black Sea. The Villa and surrounding gardens full of beautiful flower, cacti and succulents species belinged to Queen Maria of Romania, back in the days when this area was part of bigger Romania (The Cadrilater region). The palace/villa is not as big as one would expect (only has several rooms) but the surroundings are beautiful. It also has a private Winery where you can buy hand made limited edition artisan wines with very interesting flavours (fig, rose, berries, etc) that can only be found here at the Queen’s Winery.
