First of all, some more info in case you actually (like me) want to find this place independently. As usual, the location on the TripAdvisor app is somewhat in the right direction, but not accurate. If you use a Chinese map app such as Amap, you want to search for 朗梓村 Langzi cun. Confusingly, Amap shows a little "monument" icon to the northwest of the village, which I assumed must be the old town but there's nothing there! The old houses are simply an area in the centre of the modern village. To get there from Yangshuo, follow the road to Gaotian (高田镇); this starts as Kangzhan Lu, then becomes the very touristy road past Banyan tree, Moon Hill and other much touted attractions. In Gaotian, turn right onto the S301, then later left at the fork onto the 061. After Gaotian there's an occasional sign to "Langzi Ancient Folk Houses" (see photo in case you want to ask a local and point to it).
Now, is it worth to go there? To be honest, I have mixed feelings. The place certainly looks pretty authentic and hasn't been commercialised yet, which is nice! Past Gaotian, it was also a nice bicycle ride, so it works as a destination to set yourself a goal while cycling through the countryside (the whole ride from Yangshuo is a bit more than the previously mentioned 30-40 minutes though. From where I was staying it was 18 km, which took me around 1.5 hours on a normal bike without gears).
On the downside, the place is quite small. Just a few lanes with a few houses. Besides, the fact that there is no entrance fee leads to a kind of informal tourism that I personally strongly dislike: a few locals insisted on showing me around (whether for money or not, I don't know) which made it completely impossible to wander around quietly on my own and soak up the atmosphere. For me, that totally spoiled the experience (I would much rather pay a small entrance fee and then be left alone), so I basically ran away within 5 minutes, but I realise that others may not mind so much. Just be aware that you probably won't have the place to yourself.

Unpretentious village that shows the authentic lifestyle of villagers. We didn’t bump into any tourists and it seemed like the younger generation of the villagers are away from the town and we got to interact with some old people who were nice and friendly. Loved the experience of this tour.

All but deserted in favour of newer houses nearby. Great history but you will need a guide to find it and explain how to work out who lived in each house from the carvings and decorations on the doors and buildings. We really enjoyed it.

If you have an afternoon off, rent a bicycle and take a long ride through through the countryside. You will see active farming and some charming B&Bs.

Es una visita imperdible para aquellos que gusten de la historia, la arquitectura y la fotografía. Es una villa protegida por millonarios de Taiwan. No se sabe por cuanto tiempo, ya que el gobierno Chino intenta intenta re-ubicar a los pobladores y construir edificios en propiedad horizontal. Tristísimo.

A group of really lovely Qing Dynasty buildings still in very good condition that's well worth a visit for fans of ancient architecture. It's a pity that they built an ugly building directly in front of them.

This village does seem genuine as opposed to many fake places built only recently to take tourists' money. No need to buy a ticket, just stroll in and walk between the old houses in the narrow alleys. Some houses are open, offering a glimpse into the living conditions of rural Chinese. No souvenir shops inside, although few stalls seem to sell trinkets at the entrance. Good for a half an hour wander, best to come here by bike, leave the bike at the entrance and walk inside.

Pros: no souvenir shop at every corner
Cons: not really a lot to see.this might have been coz some areas (eg "new house" complex) were off limits coz they were fixing the exterior
That said, the story about the general and the feng shui that changed bec of the new house constructed in the area, was fascinating. Just wish it was better maintained.
