What building do you know of that has a rooftop dock for a zeppelin? This one does.
If you are looking for a plastic banana, modern type of place, the TJ Tower will disappoint. The lobby is mostly restored, yet keeps much original rough-around-the-edges charm. The building is an old hotel turned modern apartment building.
The second floor restaurant, Roots and Revelry, is fantastic. The outdoor patio offers nice views of downtown.
Beneath the surface, the TJ Tower has historic bona fides. It is at the heart of a re-birth of the west side of downtown Birmingham. It was a one-time grand hotel where presidents and celebrities stayed and Bear Bryant kept an apartment. It is symbolic of Birmingham, once a Magic City, now a place reborn by vision and determination.
Take time to read the history first. Walk around the lobby and eat at the restaurant, while imagining your are here with someone famous who walked, danced and partied through this tower 80-90 years ago.

At this point, my frustration comes from the lack of concern of what happened to me RIGHT in front of the building. I was called the “N” word by a random person and mentioned it to the leasing consultant. I wasn’t ask any questions regarding who that person could be. No description. No concern to even figure out if that person was a resident or not to make sure it doesn’t happen to anyone else. I didnt expect much but I definitely expected some sort of concern. And I didn’t hear from the manager until a WEEK after I mentioned it. It took me having to email her for her to reach out to me.
With the many problems from having the dishwasher, lighting, and garbage disposal fixed, the garbage inside and outside, it’s the noisiest place to live, my fridge doesn’t even dispense clean water (it’s very cloudy and grey), I didn’t even realized I was paying for valet parking just to have my car parked in the open where it can still be broken into.
The property manager has been horrible with communication. This place doesn’t care at all about their tenants. I’m never one to write a bad review but this is just unacceptable. I will be ending my lease after only being there for less than a month.
My experience hasn’t been good from the start. Things probably could’ve been resolved when I first made awareness of all this but unfortunately, now I have no desire to be there. I can almost say I hate it there. Beautiful building but my experience has been the absolute worse

Super excited this has been restored!! The lobby has a bit more to go in finding its look. Think of ambient lighting. Lamps side tables etc. makes it warmer. Need some great rugs too. The ballroom and restaurant are wonderful.

My cousin Sarah and her new husband had their wedding reception here and it was gorgeous. The space was beautiful. It was big enough for 2 bars, several food stations, tables for dining, dance floor and band. There is a lot of construction going on in this area so if your not familiar it can take some time to find it. If you have a chance to go to a function in this building I highly recommend you go.

Historic structure on the edge of downtown. Pretty shady area for random walks. I would stay clear of night time unless you are going to the strip club or homeless shelter. Hopefully, the owner will get the building fixed and it will bring prosperity back to the block with the same success Railroad Park has done for 1st Avenue South.

When my husband and I moved to Birmingham 20 years ago, this place was the Hotel Cabana. We read about a lot of the history of the building in the newspaper. We are intrigued by the two-story part to the right of the tower. It was used as a ballroom many years ago. One can only imagine how beautiful it was inside. We are waiting for a builder to take on the project of restoring it and selling condos to those who work downtown and want a great view of the city too!

Um dos prédios mais antigo de Birmingham, Thomas Jefferson Tower é um marco na história da cidade. Um prédio muito bonito considerando a época em que foi construído.

One of the first buildings I saw on arrival in Birmingham. I love it. Yes, it's decrepit and abandoned and boarded up, but it's a genuine relic from a certain era when economic optimism was expressed in a particular style of architecture. Take a look and take some photos if you're into this sort of thing. After it's renovated, you'll be able to say you saw it when it was in its original configuration/original colours etc.
It's in a run-down corner of the city, a bit lonely most days, and with a few shady characters in the area. If you're taking a look at the Alabama Theatre building, it's only a short walk to see Thomas Jefferson Tower.

No merece la pena visitarlo. El estado de abandono y deterioro es del 100%. Es una verdadera lástima este tipo de edificios tan emblemáticos que la ciudad los tenga tan abandonados.

So glad that this building will finally be restored to its former glory. Birmingham has a history of tearing down old buildings instead of restoring them, glad this one was saved in time. Looking forward to seeing it in all it's new glory!
