Lots of walking and steps

Prisen for taxi 450 yuan.

I booked the tickets through ETrip Chiane - $26 per person.
I knew that we were a little early in the area, but if you're already in the area, you can visit the park. But it's certainly less impressive than when all the limestone terraces are filled with water.
Buses leave early from Jiuzhaigou for Songpan - from there you can take a taxi. Unfortunately, the hotel staff didn't know when the first bus was leaving, so we had reserved a taxi in advance. At 6:30 a.m. I saw countless buses heading in that direction.
When we arrived at the tourist center, we were a little disorientated. The hiking trail up starts at the tourist center. However, we wanted to go to the cable car station. Buses don't seem to go there, so we shared a taxi with a few Chinese people. After we stood in line and wanted to scan the tickets, it turned out that we had to buy the cable car tickets separately. We didn't see any signs. An employee led us to a small house that was inconspicuously in the middle of the queue (I can't remember how much the tickets cost).
When you get to the top, you have to walk 3km to the main attraction or take a golf cart. We failed when we tried to buy a ticket for the shuttle. First we were told we could buy tickets - then at the ticket counter we were told that the tickets were sold out - unfortunately nobody speaks English. It was all very confusing. So we walked the 3km and watched a few squirrels. Then we went up a flight of stairs to the colourful pond. Because of the height, the walk was more strenuous than we thought. The limestone terrace was exactly as we expected. Turquoise blue water in the middle of the limestone pools. Then we went downhill towards the exit. There were lots of terraces to see along the way, but in May they were rarely filled with water. Still a beautiful park - it was just that we had visited too early.
After our walk, we arrived back at the tourist centre.

Buses to wherever they go don't go there. We had to take a taxi to Songpan and from there we took a bus to Maoxian (train tickets directly to Chengdu were sold out days in advance). The bus station in Maoxian was deserted. Thanks to the help of locals, after a 3 km walk we found a shuttle that went to the Maxian train station. After a 20 minute drive we were at the train station and took the last train to Chengdu. So in China it is best to book everything a week in advance - even outside of peak season.

It is rated as a 5 stars attraction but does not deserve the rating at all. The signage to advise those holding passport to enter valley is not clearly stated as we need to get our ticket using our passport from a booth located near to the entrance of the cable car. The toilet at the top of the cable car station was horrendous, so so filthy. The tran ride to the valley entrance was much faster but if you ask me personally, there is nothing much up there except for the blue Color lake. So 2 of us decide to take the cable car down rather than trek 3 hrs down to the base. What I was told by my 2 other friends who decided to trek down is the scenery down below was much more rewarding than the top. So I advise you not to take the cable car but to trek fm the base located near coaches carpark Just 1-1.5 hrs, you will be rewarded with beautiful lakes. The queuing time for the cable car was 1 hr and I am told during high season, it may take you 2 hrs to get onto the cable car. You will not miss plenty if you do not go up to the top

Turquoise, azure or aquamarine blue? You can find them all in Huanglong. The water in the limestone sinter terraces shines in a variety of shades of blue. Snow-capped peaks provide the perfect backdrop. Simply beautiful!
Recommendation if you only have one day:
Take the cable car up and then walk down the valley.
Walking from bottom to top sounds very sporty, but is not recommended for everyone because of the altitude. You should either have enough experience or have gotten used to the altitude a few days beforehand.

Huanglong Nature Reserve is the second must-see place to visit while in Jiuzhaigou and this is a completely different park, no less beautiful and unusual. Unlike Pamukkale (Turkey), the travertines here are much larger, the length of the lakes is 3600 meters and they have a variety of color shades, there are also many rapids and waterfalls. As for practical advice, I recommend using the cable car to get to the top, then using an electric car, this way you will be able to save energy and time. The electric car brings you to the point where you need to climb to the five-colored lakes 3556 meters above sea level, and then you can calmly descend while enjoying and admiring the incredible views.

Many tourists head for Jiuzhaigou Valley and forget about a visit to Huanglong Mountain. Please don’t do that. This is one place that must be included in your visit. You can book your tickets online and it’s free entry for those over 60 but cable ride is not free. It is about 40 minutes drive from airport and you can do it when you arrive. Take the cable car up to the top and walk all the way down to cover the sights. This will take around between 3 to 4 hours including taking photos. We are both in our mid-sixties and we did feel tired after the walk down. There are plenty of things to see and many beautiful stops to admire. There’s signboards giving information in Chinese and English on what is the sight. We visited in October and it rained and snowed the day before our visit. So, hiking shoes with good grip are advisable. A rain coat, sunglass, sunscreen are all essentials. Bring your own food and water as there’s not many choices or variety of food at the food kiosks. Plenty of toilets available though may not be up to your standards of cleanliness as there’s a high volume of visitors everyday. The toilets do get cleaned regularly as you can see attendants there. Take plenty of photos and enjoy yourselves and stay safe.

If you love Yellowstone National Park you will love this place. Best time to go is end of September or October when it’s not so cold. Dress in layers and buy Red Bull sport drinks and walking sticks. Have good shoes and hat and sunglasses because it does get sunny. Bring sunscreen regardless because the UV at this attitude burns quickly if you’re blind and blue eyes like me. The shops don’t sell this stuff so bring it. If you get chilly outside you can purchase the Yak wool liner as gift less than $20 usd. If you can go on tour with Chinese wife or friends they can get the self guided tour Walkman and translate for you. I only saw them hand out Chinese version but all signs in English so you won’t be disappointed.

The park is breathtaking. Plenty of nature and colors and a snow mountain too. We took the cable car up. Even so, the extra walk upwards to the 5 colored Ponds (Wucai Chi) was tiring enough. Oxygen tanks were on sale for people who were experiencing altitude sickness. It is a good 3500+ to the Wucai Ponds. We walked all the way down and that was our real test of perseverence and determination. Started to rain when we reached the 420 m point and from then downwards, it felt like forever!!! We made it, proudly, in one piece!!!

Warning:
- bring sunblock,
- packed your own lunch and drinks ,
-bring your own first aid kit and spray to prepare for your tired muscles
-bring a walking stick might be easier on your knees
-you might need wind breaker
-bring mosquitoes repellent,
-For foreigners, you might have difficulty buying tickets at the counter cause the staff there don't speak English plus tickets are bought using QR quotes and you would need to fill in the eForm in Mandarin , Or buy your ticket by calling a number provided at the ticket counter again you might have language issues. We paid ¥665 for 2 adults and a teenager to get in.

- and , prepare to walk for hours with plenty of steps along the way.

……

What's good:
-This attraction is kept really clean and its infrastructure is well made and organised ;plenty of clean toilets.

-you could drink the water from the mountain just bring your water bottle with filter

-there are a few places you could buy oxygen cans ;you might need this due to high altitude sickness

-you could rent charger for your phone

-plent of places to buy snacks although the selections is poor and expensive so I would say bring your own

-plenty to see, for examples, the beautiful pools, waterfalls, temples

-well sign posted
………

What's not good ?
-no wheel chair access

-poor food selections ;only one place that sells food and poor selection further this cafe/restaurant is located closer to the way out of mountain, which I might as well eat outside , after I am done with my walk.

-you cannot swim in it hahaha
………

Recommendations :
-This place is huge, if you don't want to do too many hours of walking , I would say just do the lower part of this attraction, more over, lower part of this attraction is more interesting and more to see. It took us 3 hours to finish walking after our gondola ride.

-definitely recommend you take the gondola to go up the mountain and make your way down by foot

-We get there by hiring a car with a driver for the whole day;we paid ¥500 for the whole day where the driver took us to this attraction, waited for us while we do the walk, after that, our driver took us to see the local village where we took some beautiful pictures .Our driver also took us to find a restaurant for dinner then took us back to our hotel. You could call or text Peter at this WeChat ID
xxxx18828809100 to organise your trip.Or, use local taxi or get your hotel to organise a ride for you.

………

overall, it was an enjoyable trip even though my knees and ankles were really hurt to a point where I couldn't go anywhere the day after, which wasted a day in the hotel.

Huanglong vally is much higher than jiuzhaigou park, around 4000m high. Normally you can cable car up to the top and walk down the entrance, if you do this way,you feel much easier. if you like hiking, you also can walk up and down , take 5-6 hours to enjoy. the most beautiful area is on the top. some blue some green and some other colorful ponds. it's wonderful to walk along the path and see snow mountain and beautiful water.
