The ruins of the Rana Kumbha palace are located near the entrance gate, which leads to the Chittor Fort, near the Vijai Stambha tower; despite being in ruins, what remains of the ancient palace still represents one of the main attractions within the fort walls. Walking among the remains clearly suggests the greatness and wealth of the Rajput rulers who inhabited it.
The palace was built in the 8th century, only to be rebuilt by Rana Kumbha seven centuries later; among its famous guests there was also the religious poet Meera, a devotee of the God Krishna, who in the palace composed a notable repertoire of the so-called "bhajans" (a term that identifies a religious song that pursues a spiritual idea, linked in particular to the religions practiced in India).
The palace included stables for elephants and horses, and a temple dedicated to the God Shiva; Maharana Udai Singh, founder of the ancient capital of Udaipur, was born inside the palace.
There is a legend, linked to popular tradition, which tells that, at the birth of Udai Singh, the handmaid Panna Dai, who took care of him, saved him from death by replacing him in the cradle with her son; this caused his son to be sacrificed and killed by the enemy Banbir, who wanted to take over the kingdom. The prince was carried away hidden in a fruit basket.
The palace was built of sandstone in the Rajput style, and its most notable feature, still recognisable, is the series of canopied balconies; it is said that it was in one of the rooms in the basement of the palace that Queen Padmini immolated herself with the act of jauhar, together with many other women, on her husband's funeral pyre, so as not to fall into the hands of enemies.

Rana Kumbha's Palace is situated inside the Chittorgarh Fort and near to the Vijay Stambh. Lots of history attached to the palace. It is the birthplace of Maharana Udai Singh, whose life was saved by the heroic act of the maid Panna Dhay, who replaced her son in place of the prince. Rani Meera Bai also lived in this palace. This is the place where Rani Padmini committed Johar Brata with the other ladies. Currently the palace is remaining in ruined condition. A visit of the ruins of the palace while visiting Chittorgarh Fort is recommended.

This palace was the seat of power of Rajput Mewar until Udai Singh surrendered it and shifted the capital to Udaipur. Build a lot earlier, it was renovated by Maharana Kumbha and named after him since.
Historically it has huge significance : birthplace of Udai Singh, home to Hindu poetess Meera Bai, place where Queen Rani Padmini committed jauhar, . . .
Currently, it is not much more that a ruined complex, where you will need the assistance of a good guide and a vivid imagination to understand what you're looking at. Its best remaining feature is a number of very elegant and picturesque canopied balconies.

Rana Kumbha Palace is one of the most interesting places to visit in Chittorgarh fort. It is the largest monument in the Chittorgarh Fort and has a grand history attached to it. It has been the residence to people like Bappa Rawal, Maharana Kumbha among others.

Legend of Panna Dhai, who saved infant Udai Singh with the heart-breaking sacrifice of her infant son, is also associated with this palace. The dungeons of this palace are also supposed to be the place where Rani Padmani and the other women of the palace committed Johar.

Must visit place in Chittorgarh fort.

Once inside the Palace grounds its a visual tour of the ruins of what was once a magnificent palace. Maharana Kumbha ( 1433 - 1468 AD) of the Sisodia clan was the ruler of Mewar and he made several alterations to this palace .Maharana Kumbha is credited to having rebuilt the State of Mewar and of the 84 fortresses that defended Mewar 32 were erected by Maharana Kumbha.

Though the place is in ruins, you need to imagine as to what a Royal Place it must have been - The Palace of Maharaja, Queens's Palace, The tunnels leading to Bathing place, The Veranda, The Stable all the paraphernalia. This place cant be restored and therefore one has to enjoy the beauty through their imagination based on the narration of Guides. A Guide is a must to appreciate every part of this Palace.

We had visited this Palace located inside Chittorgarh fort during our vacation in Udaipur. The entrance to the palace is on a steep inclined pathway which was originally used by the horses. This Palace was built by the great Rajput king Rana Kumbh but currently lies in a dilapidated condition. Our guide explained us the history of the palace across different generations of Rajput Kings and showed us the ruins of buildings which was once the residence of kings, queens, ministers, servants, horses etc. Most of the buildings have been destroyed by kings who invaded Chittorgarh fort.
