Great wildlife experience

We had a great few days at Cuc Phuong. We went on the Wildlife Experience and spent a night camping in the forest with our guide and the ranger. This was incredible. We trekked and went on a night time walk. We saw snakes including a cobra, amphibians and birds. They set up camp for us, we ate by the fire and had a very memorable time drinking rice wine with them. Our guide was great. Highly recommend if this is what you like.

We spent a further two nights at Mac Lake in some of the newer rooms so we could explore more of the park ourselves. They were good and clean. Hard beds but we slept well.

They do a lot of engagement work. A school group was staying and blasted the karaoke all evening and from 6am in the morning. This did affect the experience slightly for one night.

We hired a scooter for a reasonable price, visited the cave (really impressive- take a torch!) and the primate centre. The guided trip around the primate centre lasted 15 minutes - it was good to hear of the conservation work there.

Food was cheap but good at Mac Lake.

Restaurant and site as a whole could do with a spruce up as you'd expect for an old national park (including a litter pick on some trails unfortunately)but we went for the wildlife and we had a great time.

Off the beaten path, great for open-minded travelers

As Hanoi residents, we often needed a break from the city. Cuc Phuong became our escape - it's about 2.5 hours from Hanoi (which we did on a motorbike on a nice backroad), it has some intact forest, nice walks and some wildlife. This is a park for people who like 'adventure light' and want to go somewhere off the beaten path. There is affordable and simple accommodation inside the park and that allows you to hear birds and gibbons in the morning, go on night walks (fireflies, amazing insects) and enjoy the park during the quiet hours. If you stay in the park, arrange with the kitchen all your meal times soon after you arrive so they can be prepared. In a country that is so rapidly developing, this remains a fairly wild and unique park!

Great stay in Cuc Phuong

We had a great experience staying in the national park. We emailed to book our experience and an itinerary was planned for us and given on arrival.
We stayed at the headquarters, the rooms were clean and bathroom was good. The rooms was also cleaned by house keeping everyday.
We had a guide to take us on day walks in the park and around the centres which really added to the experience. We also thoroughly enjoyed doing a night time walk and were lucky enough to see a Pygmy slow loris.
The only issue we had was the lack of variety of food for a vegetarian during our stay.

Amazing National Park

My partner and I stayed at the national park HQ accommodation for 3 nights in their onsite accommodation. The rooms are clean and functional. Have AC and TV. Other rooms have a fridge as well. The only bad part of the rooms are the mattresses are very hard. ( I understand most mattresses in SE Asia are on the firm side but the ones in our room were harder than that. I think anyone with hip/back problems would have foundmit difficult)
We visited the primate centre, the turtle centre, carnivore (pangolin) centre which are amazing, seeing all the hard work that goes into trying to save Vietnams wildlife. It is an uphill battle against poachers, illegal wildlife trade, bushmeat and hunting/ poaching for Chinese traditional medicine. Please visit these centres and spread the word about what is happening.
There is an onsite restaurant which serves 3 meals a day. Menu is quite good but some options aren't available if food not been delivered. Breakfast is pretty basic but I think you can order other things off the menu eg fruit. No gluten free options. My tip would be to bring some snacks/food with you if staying here.
We hired a scooter from the HQ and a guide to take us on a trek as well. There are lots of hikes, so you can do alone others need a guide. The hike we did was pretty challenging and not suitable for people with knee/back issues. Good level of fintess needed as it involved a fair bit of climbing up/over rocks and it was slippery as it rained night before.
Staff are very helpful and kind.
Great park to visit and learn about the issues facing Vietnams wildlife.

A lezione nella natura

Una giornata veramente speciale! Abbiamo iniziato l'escursione con la visita al centro di recupero delle scimmie, poi breve trekking fino alla caverna dell'uomo primitivo e infine un bellissimo trekking nella foresta pluviale. La nostra guida ci ha fornito un sacco di informazioni interessanti ed è stato bravissimo. Alla fine abbiamo pranzato nel parco con un menù da favola...tutto buonissimo! La consiglio vivamente! A metà del nostro trekking ha iniziato a diluviare e camminare nella foresta sotto la pioggia torrenziale è stato a suo modo interessante e una bella esperienza!

Private tour cuc phuong national park with Kenny

We booked a private tour by ninh binh tourist center and we got Kenny as our tour guide. We were picked up at our hotel right on time and then the adventure startet. we got so lucky with Kenny, as he gave us exactly the kind of tour we were looking for. he really respects the nature and knows so much about the trees and animals in the park (and where to spot them). We learned a lot and also saw like tons of different insects/butterfly’s/spiders/other small aminals. It felt like an authentic experience, for us it was the perfect tour. The preservation center was also very interesting to see.
The food at the restaurant was also really good. We felt save the whole time and we had such a great time with Kenny!
Best experience in Vietnam so far♥️

A breath of fresh air

It is worth going to the primate sanctuary, if only to get a sense of the upward struggle to keep alive the remaining species of Langers in the park, and to see pangolins.

Walks are not signposted so take photos of maps before hiking.

We took a taxi to the sanctuaries at the entrance of the park, the driver was fine to wait for us and then travelled another 20ks to the centre of the park.

Take packed lunch and water.

Great place for hiking

I visited the national park with my brother, It was a great place for hiking, the route was quite easy but you need to bring mosquito repellent as there are mosquitos when we got there.

Pittige hike

Naar het midden van het park gereden voor een hike. Heel speciaal volgens de gids om een 1000 jaar oude sequoia te bezichtigen. Een zware wandeling (mede door de temperatuur) van 6 km met veel klim en klauter werk. De sequoia bleek een zo goed al afgestorven boom te zijn. Niet bijzonder. De wandeling was, ondanks dat hij zwaar was, meer dan de moeite waard.
Ook het opvangcentrum voor apen bezocht. Leuke rondleiding door enthousiaste gids.

Brilliant trip into the jungle with fantastic ranger guides

We spent 5 days in the national park. We were picked up from Hanoi and taken to the park. The ranger then took us around the different animal rescue centres. It was great to see representatives of the animals that live in the surrounding jungle, being cared for at the park, before being released back into the jungle. The ranger spoke brilliant English and was so knowledgeable about the flora and fauna.

We stayed in a lovely, comfortable room and had all our meals provided in the restaurant. The following day we were driven to the centre of the park where we left on our 3 day trek into the jungle. We walked for one day and then camped in the jungle. We had 2 guides for this trek and they looked after us so well. In the evening they built a fire and cooked us traditional, Vietnamese food, in a tradtional way, over the fire.

The next day we walked to a village on the edge of the jungle. It is here that the community that have been dosplaced from the jungle now live. We explored the village and had a relaxing trip down the river on a bamboo raft. Following this we had dinner at our homestay, before joining in with the villagers in their regular volleyball games. We slept in the homestay and the following day we walked back through the jungle to the national park HQ. Here we had a relaxing evening and another comfortable night, before our ride back to Hanoi the next morning.

The rangers are so friendly and knowledgeable, as are the villagers. It is great to hear about the work of the park and the rangers, in protecting the landscape and wildlife. I would recommend a trip with the rangers over a trip to the park with a tour company. I.e. book direct with the national park. The booking process was easy and the staff very friendly.
