Avante Cottage Crafts was an A++++ experience. Every time I look at the pieces I purchased, I not only remember my trip to Mumbai, but also the great shopping experience the staff provided.
The Pieces: The large selection of high quality pieces made it a one-stop shop for me. I walked away with pieces that range from classical to modern, enhance any room, and make for great conversation. I was most impressed with the wood-pressed painting and silk tapestries I purchased for my home.
The Staff: The staff is absolutely dedicated to service and ensuring you'll have a great experience. They personally select the items they stock, and it shows in the way they help you. Once the team knew more about my home and the aesthetic I was looking for, they were able to quickly pick out items I would like - explaining the origin, workmanship, and significance of each piece. They even suggested ways to best display the pieces as an ensemble.
Shipping: Packaging and shipping were also very easy. I decided not to ship the items so they were hand-delivered to my hotel room - free of charge (although I did tip). Each piece was wrapped in bubble tape and styrofoam, and individually boxed. I arrived home with showroom quality pieces and immediately put them on display.
Bottom line: I'll happily return on my next visit, and think you'll have as great an experience as I did. The store is easy to find near the Regal Cinema; the selection of pieces are amazing; and the helpful staff is even better.

I wanted to buy earrings to take back with me as gifts--and I was lucky enough to shop here my last day in India. My taste tends to be more simple than the average earrings that are sold elsewhere. Avante had a large collection of silver earrings that were of traditional designs but not as elaborate as a found elsewhere. The price was between $10 to $20 a pair so great for gifts. The salesperson was also very nice. Very low pressure and helpful. I also like the idea that the store is a fair wage store--resourced from the artisans themselves.

There are some really affordable items at this establishment that genuinely look unique and of excellent quality. We were told they do not negotiate on prices, so that would be my only negative. Staff is helpful to explain or provide literature on origins of handcrafts. Yo tours free walking tour of Mumbai recommend this place.

We are a fixed price store (all our items have a bar code with a price) because we feel that this benefits the customer in the long run. It eliminates the hassle of bargaining and ensures that all customers pay the same price. We strive to keep all our prices fair and reasonable so that any customer can walk in and make purchases without the fear of being overcharged/cheated.
I will definitely pass on your kind words to all of our staff.
We make single page write ups about almost all our handicrafts to give to any interested customers, as sometimes the beauty of the craft is embedded with its history.

Located in the prime tourist zone of Mumbai in close vicinity of landmarks like the Regal Cinema and the Gateway of India, this shop is ideal for people looking to pick up souvenirs and gifts.
The shop has a great collection of handicrafts from across India and the prices were a pleasant surprise for a shop like this in the area. The fixed prices are in line with the prices in the government outlets of the respective states and much more reasonable than in the neighboring shops and streets.
The staff were polite and helpful and not too pushy. Overall must be explored if in the vicinity for some budget shopping. It's located across the road from Sahakari Bhandar.

Close to Gateway to India and the Taj Hotel. It is a respite from the chaos and crowd of the Shahid Bhagat Singh Road that is chockful of shops. The workers at the stores are friendly, fluent in English, and patient showing and explaining each item. Finally, the prices are reasonable (They told me that they don't bargain) and the choices are plenty. If I had limited time and wanted a one-stop shopping this places is the place to go. It is significantly cheaper than anything I could see at the Airport. Would definitely go there again

It was such a relief to find a store with quality crafts without having to deal with the price negotiations. All prices are listed and are very fair. The sales people were available to answer questions but gave me space to shop without feeling any pressure.

If you are looking to buy some gifts-souvenirs I would recommend Avante.
It has a good range - not all of which is in display so ask if you’re looking for something specify- and is fairly - fixed - priced as far as I can see having checked out a few other dealers.
You doubtless could get cheaper if you are an able and determined haggler but life is too short..

I was walking down the street and saw the wooden musician dolls. These would be perfect gifts for my
granddaughters ages 2 and 5.
Inside I felt is a wonderful place .
I came back and bought 3 more
gifts. People home in US are going to love these presents.

Avante is a landmark in Colaba. Run passionately by Ramesh and Kalpana Malani it has the ambience of class and credibility. The staff is helpfull yet unobtrusive. The products are authentic, reasonably priced and great value for money. Will recommend it to everyone visiting South Bombay (Mumbai) and looking for a bargain in gifts and souvenirs.
