I went on a Sunday, so it was probably quieter than a weekday. The trains were very clean and the air conditioning worked well. Much faster for my route than taking a car to my destination .

On the last Christmas i was to visit a friend for a reunion. And i lost my purse at shyambazar metro station.
When i got to park street station i realized i don't have it with me. I went back to check and nothing was found.
The authority didn't allow to check the cctv footage. And weren't cooperative about my missing belongings.

However i still rate it 4 for i am a frequent traveler . But that incident was unpleasant , saddening.

Having ridden both Line 1 & Line 2 of the Kolkata Metro, I can say that Line 1 (North-South Metro/Blue Line) of course being the oldest metro line in the country seemed somewhat antiquated compared to the more modern Line 2 and the Delhi Metro Lines but had some charm with the old architecture in the station and some of the older trains. And even though it was very busy & almost overcrowded, it was very convenient for me to travel towards the Indian Museum from Mahatma Gandhi Road. However, I will admit that while it had its charm, some bits of the old stations didn't look greatly maintained, with parts of it almost falling into disrepair (especially with open drains next to the footpaths inside the station), but I will admit that the stations looked relatively clean for the most part and the trains were quite fast and frequent, arriving every 4-5 minutes not to mention there are some newer trains in Line 1 now, so I do hope the Line gets better as the future goes on.

Regarding Line 2 (East West Metro/Green Line), it was of course very modern with new & fast trains, relatively clean, modern & well maintained stations (although I will admit one of the entrances/exits from the City Center station were in a bad condition, with litter thrown in one spot and some people urinating on the roadside near the station entrance) with platform screen doors (not to mention some scenic views from the elevated section). Was nice to do a short joyride on it last year and this year it was even more useful as I rode it for the International Kolkata Book Fair at Central Park near Karunamoyee station alongside riding it to Sealdah. However, while Line 2 was very modern & well maintained for the most part, the frequency could definitely be improved in the future as the current 15-20 minute frequency is not great for a metro line (though still better than the recently opened Line 3 which from what I've read has a terrible 60 minute frequency, although I haven't ridden Line 3 yet), although I guess thats understandable given the full line isn't yet open, although its much busier than last year now that the Sealdah extension's opened whereas last year, very few rode it & mostly for joyrides (hopefully when the full line to Howrah opens, they'll increase the frequency of the line as It'll be far busier than it is now, especially as it'll connect both Sealdah & Howrah stations together).

Overall I liked riding the Kolkata Metro (especially with its very cheap fares - although when riding Line 2 towards Sealdah, it was a bit pricier) but at the same time, the system really has a lot to learn from other Metro systems like Delhi (though I might add, one rare thing Kolkata Metro does better than say the Delhi Metro is that its better integrated with the Suburban Railway whereas the Delhi Metro is poorly integrated with its Suburban Railway, though Delhi does far better in all the other areas), especially as the rate of Metro construction & expansion is so slow compared to other Indian cities (when driving along EM Bypass alongside the upcoming Line 6, I have hardly seen much change in the construction from 5-6 years ago while the Line 2 contruction has been plagued by the Bowbazar subsidence) and it needs to improve its maintenance of parts of the system along with its service frequency. I really hope it does improve in the future as, despite its flaws, it has so much potential, especially when all the under construction lines are finished (which should make it far easier to get around Kolkata & avoid the traffic) - I could do an updated review if I ride the other lines in the future.

First conceived a century ago, the Kolkata Metro is the country's oldest Metro system, and something which you should certainly try out.

We took a family member’s suggestion to take the Metro from LKO airport.

It was very good. Took just about 35 minutes.

Price: just Rs50 per person!!!

Clean, plenty to room, wheelchair availability, feeling to safety and security, helpful and proactive staff - it was a good experience.

Must promote this mode of transportation for the sake of the environment and convenience.

Travlling by the Metro is a unique experience. Despite being over 4 decades old the Metro is still in good shape - perhaps got modernised in the past few years. It offers q quick connection between key places and keeps you away from the maddening traffic of the city. A 30 min. ride from Maidan to Dakshineswar costed us Rs. 20 per head.

The Kolkata Metro (Bengali: কলকাতা মেট্রো) is a rapid transit system serving the city of Kolkata in West Bengal, India. As of February 2021, it has two operational lines, a 31.36 km (19.49 mi) line from Dakshineswar to Kavi Subhash and a 6.9 km (4.3 mi) line from Salt Lake Sector V to Phoolbagan, for a total of 38.26 km (23.77 mi). Four other lines are in various phases of construction. The system has a mix of underground, at-grade and elevated stations using both broad-gauge and standard-gauge tracks. Trains operate between 07:00 and 22:30 IST and the fares range from ₹5 to ₹25.

The Kolkata Metro is the first planned and operational rapid transit system in India. It was initially planned in the 1920s, but construction started in the 1970s. The first underground stretch, from Bhawanipore (now Netaji Bhawan) to Esplanade, opened in 1984. Line 2, or the East–West Corridor, opened in 2020. It is the fifth-longest operational metro network in India after the Delhi Metro, Hyderabad Metro, Namma Metro and Chennai Metro.

Metro Railway, Kolkata and Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation are the owners and operator of the system. On 29 December 2010, Metro Railway, Kolkata, became the 17th zone of the Indian Railways, completely owned and funded by the Ministry of Railways. It is the only metro in the country to be controlled by Indian Railways. There are around 300 daily train trips carrying more than 700,000 passengers.

The Kolkata metro is India's oldest metro and the best part is, it it not just still in service, but also maintained spick and span despite all the crowds. Platforms and compartments are both clean and trains run on time. Definitely worth a one time travel just to evoke fond memories.
