Big flower market, ,not clean also not much space for walking ,very crowded.. different varieties of flowers available for sell in whole sell. To reach the place you need to take a stair down from the Howrah bridge Kolkata side...

A buzzing place. Crowded but safe and friendly. Really get a feel for a commerce centre. Worth getting out of the comfort zone for.

This is a wholesale flower market. Very poor area so go with as little as possible and don't 'show wealth'. It isn't unsafe but these are hardworking local people, blend in with the crowd. You have to go very early. We went at 7AM but if you can, go even earlier like 5AM. Chaotic, very dirty but it has a lovely vibe and cool atmosphere. Very different from say a European flower market. We walked around for 20 minutes. You also have lovely views of Howrah Bridge. A few tips. As I said, it is really dirty, muddy in parts, damp and slippery. Wear old flat shoes and nothing that hangs on the floor. Mind how you walk and watch your head as on some parts, vehicles will need to pass and they will push past if need be. There are also many men carrying heavy items on their heads and they will knock you if you don't watch yourself. Would recommend as the vibe is pretty cool. Nice way to see an 'alternate' local part of Kolkata. You don't need long. Just use an uber to go.

This is a wholesale flower market in the slums. There are very poor, hardworking people in the filthy labyrinth trying to sell their flowers to retailers for resale. The last thing they need is a bunch of rich lookiloos clogging up their narrow paths. Local tour companies impeding the flower retailers business should not be allowed in the area with their rich tourists. There is nothing beautiful in the labyrinth.

This is a wholesale market with traders buying from the growers. The market is just across the river from the Railway Station. Apparently trains from the countryside into Kolkata have a carriage set aside for traders to bring their goods into the city.
Lots of marigold heads and garlands - which you see later in the temples and shrines. More exotic flowers too.
When we were there some school children were wandering through the market picking up discarded newspaper that had been used to wrap the flowers.
Quite chaos - organised? maybe.

This is the most beautiful place I visited in Kolkata. If you are in Kolkata, add this place to your list. Definitely, the best to visit this place between 5am - and 7 am but I couldn't make it because of my work. In the evening while coming back from the Howrah station, I just stepped down to visit this market and was awed by the number of varieties of flowers I noticed. The first thing you will sense is the intoxicating fragrance and im sure you will not want to come out of that world. I walked and walked the whole market. Also visit the market inside in small lanes where you will find more flower selling people. The whole place is filled with colour street.
How to visit: let me share how you can visit this place in one stretch adding more places in kolkata. Take a ferry from Launch to howrah station (6 rs only one way), get down and walk towards the bridge. Enjoy the breezy walk on the Howrah bridge and watch ferries and boats passing underneath. As soon as you reach the end of the bridge, you will find stairs on the right side and get down and start walking towards the flower market.
Dont forget to thank me and share your experience.

What an amazing place to walk through !! Marigolds were in abundance throughout the market al ready to be woven into beautiful displays for the forthcoming celebrations on Republic Day. I felt guilty admiring all the flowers and getting in the way of workes going about their business and others trying to deliver chai to the sellers.

A great colourful experience !!

Don't let the noise and the hustle discourage you from going to this market. It is very noisy, busy, unkempt and the road is a little narrow but the experience and the feel is just amazing.
Flowers in huge quantities. From roses to marigolds. The flower market ends where the spice market begins.

We went on the Flower Market tour led by Manjit, a professional photographer who is passionate about this beautiful city and its people and places. The tour was a fantastic experience. Manjit regularly visits the market with groups and is known and respected by the vendors at the market. As a photographer, Manjit was able to direct us to take our own great photos, while providing us with lots on really interesting information. Manjit has a great sense of humour, enjoys people and his business as a guide and professional photograher. He treated us to snacks and chai during both walks. Great opportunities to try street food. Recommend highly.
