We had not visited this zoo since they moved to this new location so we decided it give it a try. We are senior couple so we were able to attend for only $10. during February, so at least we did not waste the normal rate.
Many of the displays were empty and many more had animals lying down with limited visual access. They offer special attractions for additional fees ($5. to $25.) so a family of four could easily spend $80. to $100 on a trip that, at best, would take two hours.

This was my first visit to the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo at its new location. Nice facility, ample parking, many attractions for younger chldren as well as adults. A visit is well worth the time and expense.

Very nice small zoo. Clean, and very helpful and friendly staff. Had a wonderful time feeding the giraffes!

It was almost $100 dollars for a family of four to gain entrance. After that, anything remotely intersecting would have cost an additional 5-25 or more for each encounter. Want to pet the kangaroos? $25. Sloths? $25. Ride a tiny train? Extra. Feed the giraffes 3 small pierces of lettuce? $5. Literally anything that you might want to see was blocked off unless you paid extra. The enclosures were lack luster and the varieties of animals poor. Keep your money and do something else.

Wasn't sure what to expect as I work at the St. Louis Zoo. What I found was a clean facility, friendly and caring staff with the animals and the entertainment facilities, healthy looking animals and well designed displays. A very positive experience!

My wife and I have been visitors to, and financial supporters of, this zoo since before they moved to their current location. We both have very fond memories of doing encounters with tiger cubs, lemurs, kangaroos and anteaters in an environment which could only be described as 'relaxed and easygoing.'
So -- Why only three dots ('Average') on this trip, when the place has easily won five in the past? Well, we ran into some issues we didn't expect, issues which put a damper on our entire trip.
Let me say this much, right up front: There's NOTHING wrong with the zoo's physical plant (the enclosures and exhibits), nor is there any problem with how they're taking care of their animal population. They do an outstanding job on both counts and there is enormous potential for growth and improvement. The new site is easily and equally accessible by walking or wheelchair, no worries at all.
With that out of the way -- The issues I mention took the form of misinformation, both on their public-facing web site and their Facebook page. Specifically, regarding the lemur encounter.
As near as I can tell, from our own experience and other TripAdvisor reviews, the zoo has not had their lemur encounters active since at least August 2022, possibly longer. Have they bothered to note this on either their web site or Facebook page? Not a word, and I have the date-stamped screen captures to prove it.
We saved and planned for this trip since February 2022. While the lemur encounter and the zoo overall were not the only reasons we visited the area, they were certainly a primary reason. Had we known the lemur encounter was offline, as it were, we would have made different plans.
The fact the zoo could not, apparently, be bothered to update their information, in this context, borders on the illegal tactic of 'Bait-and-Switch' in our minds. This is not the kind of behavior we've come to expect from the place, and I very much doubt the senior staff would feel any differently (that's assuming they are even aware of the situation -- they have plenty on their plates already, as one might imagine). We certainly plan to point it out to them via postal mail (I'm thinking certified letter...)
In summary: Is the place worth a visit? Absolutely. Is it clean and well-kept, with healthy animals? Without a doubt. Are the animal encounters worth doing? Indeed they are.
Just don't make the same mistake we did by assuming everything's grand. If you're coming out for a specific encounter, PHONE AHEAD FIRST to make sure they're doing it!!!

Almost every pen had nothing but overgrown grass, with a name of an animal in front of it, with no animal in it, this is a walk through, no one to help you with directions. Over half of the stalls, we empty. When I asked the counter help about the empty stalls her explanation was the animals don't come out because its hot! lol
Duh! It is in Gulf Shores, one of the hottest places in Alabama. So, I said the stalls were empty she said ....Sorry.
Save your money!!!!!!!! Shame on Alabama for putting this on the map. Whoever is funding this, save your money!!!!

We love to visit zoos in other states. We are members of our local zoo. It seems pretty new and the enclosures for the animals looked nice and kept up! I loved the fact that water flowed through many of the exabits. The park was clean and I felt the animals were well kept! I love LOVE Giraffes and we all fed them. I would suggest carrot sticks to alternate with the leaf sprigs. I do realize that it is a good fundraiser for the zoos and to help interact with the animals. Thanks for a great experience!

Most exhibits were closed or very limited animals. Very difficult to see the animals.
No shade for the poor animals! Upcharges galore! Do not recommend, especially for small children. Activities and encounters, snack places, restaurant were closed. To touch a turtle cost $20 extra.

My husband and I are going to be in Gulf Shores next week. Does anyone know if the lemur or kangaroo experience are still options and what days they are available?

When we were there about a month ago, they were still an option. I don't think it matters what day you go.

We are heading that way in mid-June, which I know is busy. Is there a day of the week that seems to be a little less crowded?

When we were there, we spent about 2 hours. We had a wonderful Sloth Experience which took about 30 minutes. The Zoo was very small, but they are moving in September to a new location.
Can you bring your small dog into the zoo?
