As recommended by Lonely Planet we arrived at 7pm for sunset spectacle only to find the temple grounds are only open from 5.30-6.30 pm ie. Too soon for the lights and sunset. Many people turned up to be turned away by guards who were clearly fed up with explaining over and over. There is nowhere close by to view from either because of building work that clearly has been going on a long time. A long way out even by Grab and a complete waste of time.

The mosque is under repair, so it was closed. If you want to take pictures, it can only be done from the lot next to it, which we were told is a private property. You must buy a bottle of water per person if you want to access it!

An old man helped me put on Muslim clothes at the building at the entrance to the premises. For the face and the body. After he put it on, he pointed to a transparent donation box next to it and asked me to put RM10 in. I thought that admission and rental should be free, so I put in only RM1 while other tourists were there and left the building, but the other people were not in it.
I wanted to take a photo from a common photo spot a little further away, but on the way there, there were about three local men who asked me to buy water (in a plastic bottle), so I refused and did not go. I was alone and scared, so I left the place immediately, so I do not know if I could have entered without buying it.
The mosque itself was very beautiful and had a sacred atmosphere.

The mosque was built on the water and seemed to be a popular tourist spot to watch sunset in Malacca. And yes, it looked romantically beautifully. However, the beach right next to the mosque's left offered a better view.

The Mosque is currently closed for repairs but you couldn’t even get near it due to security, although I did see some people go in. What made the experience worse was the nearby workers asking money for photos in nearby location. Such a shame.

We were part of a group tour that our tour director took us to. This unique mosque sits in the water and is especially noticeable during high tide. Visitors, women in particular are required to be all covered up , arms, legs, hair, and feet prior to entering. I'm not sure if there is a charge for the clothing to be covered up or not as our tour director handed the attendant several dollars. I'm assuming it is all voluntary.
If you are uncomfortable with this requirement, they just do not allow you to enter.
Men are fine and do not need to be all covered up.

You walk to entrance once you have been covered with a cloak or robelike article of clothing that covers your entire body- don't worry if you don't fit as the attendant will use some string and adjust it accordingly to your size and height. Your hair will also be completely covered with a tudung (headpiece) like a headscarf that covers all your hair. -- only your hands and face are exposed at that point. You need to remove your shoes before the entrance of the mosque-- walk around to the back turning left from the entrance and follow the path all the way to the back where you can enter the mosque and take a photo at the back entrance-- striking colors with your outfit and the interior of the mosque. Make sure you also step out to the back passageway to get a nice photo of your outfit with the scenery of the water. An unforgettable experience to remember. Well the hassle to get covered up with the cloak and headpiece.

Good that our visit was with Friday Pray Time or as they say it in Malay: Juma Solat. Straits mosque or floating mosque. Located closed to the shore standing on pillar that disappears when there is tide.
Amazing structural beauty, spherical shaped mosque.

unfortunately the review and the related rating refer to the fact that at the time of my visit, there was some work in progress; however, access was allowed to Muslims, while visitors were not even allowed to approach the surrounding areas (the guards stopped tourists at the access gate); disappointed, since I was curious to see the mosque at least from the outside and this was not possible while other people also had free access to the internal areas

We couldn't enter because it is closed to tourists until December 2023, it is only open for worship. They told us that we could see it entering a street in a development right next door, but once we arrived a security guard did not let us pass, they did not allow tourists to pass through. We were able to take a photo from the entrance and the truth is that it is beautiful, it's a shame we couldn't see it from the beach.

Unfortunately, until December 2023, the mosque will not be open to anyone other than Muslims for prayer, so I was able to see only the exterior. It's a little hard to find, but if you go by car, just before the main gate, about 100 meters to the left towards the mosque, you will enter a forest, and there will be a mountain path that leads to the coast. You can take a photo of the entire mosque from the coast!
