Absolutely fantastic museum. Especially for how compact it is - 45 minutes will get you through the totality of it, but still of the highest quality. The museum is mostly videos - one of which highlights the work of the Southern Poverty Law Center. But for $5, it’s an amazing bargain. A must go in Montgomery.

This is a splendid little museum, something you should not miss. Outside it has a wonderful water tribute by Maya Lin. Inside there’s an extraordinary film about people working together, everyone, for racial justice. There’s also a magnificent electronic wall on which you can float your name if you make a pledge to work towards justice. It’s not a big place, probably takes 20 to 35 minutes, but it is very moving.

This Memorial is a profound experience.
With sound and visual displays, it helps explain the US Civil Rights Movement,
The video in the theatre is very inspiring, as it brings the movement into the immediate presents through the voices of young activists.
It may seem small and insignificant, but it is a blockbuster!
There is also a wonderful display about the late great John Lewis, with lovely quilts.
The staff is very welcoming.

I completely disagree with the negative reviewers. This is a modest but important memorial to civil rights activists. What distinguishes it is a very effective multi-screen video that emphasizes the connection between past and present.

While the other museums memorialize victims of racist brutality and injustice, leaving you with a feeling of anger and despair, this small but effective exhibit points to ways that we can continue to fight for equality and an end to racial violence. When we visited there was also a lovely exhibit of quilts that celebrate the late John Lewis. This is definitely worth a visit--it doesn't take long and the small entrance fee supports the Southern Poverty Law Center which continues to do great work.

Visited here on our way from New Orleans to Birmingham expecting an insight into the Civil Rights Movement and was severely disappointed because all that you get to see is a shortish film about the experiences suffered by a number of individuals in the name of Civil Rights. As interesting, and moving, as the film is, there is no other insight into the history of the Civil Rights Movement. There are interesting pictures on the walls but these are just 'headline shots' and do not give any history. The staff are very friendly and helpful and will answer any question you may have, if they can but to call this a Memorial Centre is rather overegging the name. There is an interesting memorial outside.

I wouldn’t call this a museum. Memorial center, as named, is appropriate.

It is worthwhile as the staff are super nice and helpful, the film is informative, and it goes over personal accounts of those involved in the civil rights struggle. But that’s about all that’s here.

This isn’t in-depth; it took me less than an hour to complete my visit—but it’s a good adjunct to the EJI museum and memorial. And near the freedom rides museum. Each museum is only five dollars, so you can see the EJI museum and memorial, the civil rights memorial center, and the freedom rides museum for 15 total dollars. Why not?

We visited here after spending 2.5 hours at the Legacy Museum and then 30 minutes at the National Memorial for Peace and Justice. As much as I'd like to say it was worth it to then also visit the Civil Rights Memorial Center, it wasn't. The film at the beginning was good, but there wasn't really anything else to see. Maybe I'm affected by the fact that we had such a long experience at the Legacy Museum. Parking is a little difficult given that you need to find street parking (i.e., no parking lot). We spent about 30 minutes total, including the 20-minute film.

We detoured hundreds of miles out of our way to visit because the website said you were open on Mondays. In fact, it gave me the option to buy timed tickets. So disappointed!!!! Update your website!!!!

So sad to read and hear stories from lives impacted by slavery and oppression. I didn't agree with a lot of the opinions. However, the historically fact-based info was educational.

The center gives a short sketch about the people whose names are on the memorial. But, it also has info on more recent victims, who are LGBTQ, Muslim, etc. There is a theater with an excellent film. Be sure to add your name to the Wall of Tolerance and mean it.
