Park open from 8am to 4pm (closed Monday and Tuesday), entry for foreigners $13.56, purchasable on site. There is a main path (plus another secondary one which is half in common with the first) that leads to the beach. 4.5 km long, easy, up and down, in the shade of the trees. We spotted some animals, but few.
Bring water and food, there is nothing inside except a fountain for water and toilets.
The beach is partly pebbly and partly white sand, with some shade under the palms and trees.
In the sea there are many stones and rocks, uncomfortable for swimming. Strong currents and murky water. You can just bathe close to the shore.

This is one of our favorite hikes in Costa. You need to be prepared as the hike is hot and arduous so expect this! Great challenge, beautiful jungle, good road to ranger station, clear maps. We normally hit the trail right at opening time which I highly recommend; being the first on the beach is magic and it is slightly cooler and damper in the morning! The agates on this beach are unreal and very unique. In addition to the usual monkeys bugs and butterflies we saw a hawksbill playing in the water on our most recent visit!

Nice reserve with vegetation but poorly maintained trails for walking. To walk the path to Cabo Blanco beach, be careful if it has rained before because it is all muddy and very slippery. I'm not saying that they have to put in walkways, but we have toured many parks around the world that respect the environment by maintaining the paths well, and since you pay an entrance fee, at least you can see that it is invested. Before going to the beach we didn't look at the tide and it was high so there was no sand/shells nor could you swim. And in that idyllic place it is full of garbage bags and plastics that the reserve should clean up. So for us it was not worth paying for 3 and a half hours of muddy walking to get to one of the dirtiest beaches on the planet.

In my opinion this is one of the Parks that you have to visit. And where you are going to live experiences unlike any other. It was the quietest park of all the ones we visited. Which means that in many sections my wife and I were alone. Nobody in front, nobody behind. We were with another couple who had a faster pace and they overtook us. You have to choose between the short and long route. I recommend the length as far as you are able to go. Keep in mind that the distance traveled is quite long. Follow the recommendation of the guard at the entrance to arrive at the exit on time before closing. It is an apparently flat park, but it is not like that. It has constant small ups and downs that make it a real leg-breaker. The end of the long path is a beach, and you walk and believe that by hearing the sea you are close to the end, but don't be fooled, you have a long way to go. We saw many animals and there was an incredible moment when a herd of coatis surrounded us. Although we knew that they do nothing, the experience was shocking. You see monkeys, snakes, squirrels, anteaters, deer, a multitude of types of birds...

I was there with my son and decided to walk the longest trail which was about 11 km both ways, this trail takes you to a very lonely and clean beach called "Cabo Blanco" the same name of the protected park. It takes almost 4 hours to complete this journey, you go up the hill for most of the time and then go down the hill till you get to this virgin white sand beach. Is a little Rocky but it has some portions of sand, specially with low tide.
We saw several animals and birds which makes the walking time more entertaining. I really recommend this place to pople who likes to walk on a jungle adventure. Just take a lot of water since it's hot and humid, you will need it and there is no drinkable water there as I know of.

The hike towards the beach is 5 km (also a short round possible) and you have to go back as well. The path is very clear to find, but it is not easy. People say it is the hottest national park in Costa Rica and the path goes up and down, so it will take about 1.5-2 hours one way, so retour will be 3-4 hours and an additional swim. During the hike I saw 3 non-venomous snakes, blue morpho, agouti, lizards and a tree anteater.Besides I heard a lot of howler monkeys, but could not find them. At the beach there were many iguanas and pelicans. You can fill up your water bottles here (you don't need reusable plastic, but please don't litter!) and have a little swim in the sea and have a shower. The park is not expensive and not touristy, so it was absolutely great. This was an amazing day and I would absolutely recommend doing it!

Great national park close to Montezuma. You can choose the short or long trail. The long trail will take you to a beach where you can swim before returning same way back.
Do not that you will have to cross a couple of rivers and the path is a little uneven at some places.

We came here in February during dry season. We came here from Santa Teresa, which is about a 30 minute drive through some bumpy backcountry roads ($50 USD cab ride per direction, $100 USD round trip). There are three different trails - short (30 mins), medium (1 hour), and long (4 hours). We did the long hike because we wanted to see the beach. We started the hike at 10am. We arrived to the beach in around 1h30 mins. Our return trip was a bit slower because we were tired, and it was more humid and hot. Overall the trail wasn't challenging. It was well demarcated/marked. You cannot get lost. There are stepping stones and ropes at many points. It was a steady balance of uphill and downhill. Most of the trail is shaded so you don't have the sun beaming down on you, but it does get very humid. The beach is amazing as there are relatively few people there. There are benches and hammocks for you to rest and sit down to enjoy a lunch break. There are even showers for you to rinse off. We saw many animals along the way including howler monkeys, deer, various birds, butterflies, etc. I wouldn't recommend this hike to a beginning. Bring snacks and plenty of water, and make sure you wear proper running or hiking shoes. Do not try to hike in sandals.

TENED MUCHO CUIDADO!!!
