One of my travel companions ended up in a fracture boot for our trip so there would be no "hiking" for us so this trail was a great alternative! Level walking on the "flume" elevated walkway that was very peaceful among nature. A few other walkers were encountered but had it mostly to ourselves. We walked it to the "waterfall" and back. The community is very lucky to have this well maintained walkway!

Well constructed boardwalk to get you through an area with great history, a flowing creek and small waterfalls. Some may not like the "controlled" nature of the trail, but if you have small kids with you, the boardwalk and handrails allows everyone to go at his or her own speed. Do be aware there can be rock slides covering the trail, but they can be easily walked over.

Beautiful easy walk / hike easily reached by walking from town. Learn a little history at the Alaska Light & Power Co. website. Start at the end of Evergreen Ave. connect to Basin Road & continue to the Last Chance Mining Museum for a visit & then return on Basin Rd back to town for a great loop.

Walking the "trail" was easy, since it turns out to be a boardwalk with side rails the whole way. So as a walk in the forest, it leaves me disappointed. The trees and everything are 10 feet back, typically. Plus, with the fairly new boardwalk construction, you get more of the smell of creosote than forest. We'll pick a different trail next time.

Getting to the trail is a hike but once to the trail the newly renovated treadway is level and an easy walk through the forest with Gold Creek rushing below.

Great, short trail along the ridge above Juneau. The only challenge might be getting up the steep hill to Basin Road (if you don't have a car) - once you're there, there is plenty of parking. Might consider taking a cab up and walking down after the hike.

My wife and I were on a cruise and Juneau was the first Port of Call. We had been to Juneau before and did Mendenhall Glacier, so we wanted to do something different this time the Gold Creek Flume Trail was not that far from the cruise port. The views were beautiful as the snowpack was starting to melt and we could see numerous waterfalls. It was nice because you didn't hear any traffic, but rather just the sounds of the waterfalls and the creek which now turned into a river due to the snow melt. The trail itself wasn't that long due to construction. We walked down a wooden path and then had to turn around due to the trail being shut down. Overall, it was a very nice walk.

This was a nice easy walk. Practically no elevation. It was comfortable and safe. We brought spikes for our shoes which we only needed in a few areas.
From there we walked through town and back to the parking area. We locked out with non rainy weather. It was a nice walk.

We began in the flume trail, which was a very easy hike. Then followed others up the mountain. Found more trails and views!! Just go enjoy the outdoors and hike as long as you want. The views are fantastic, the gold creek flume is a step back in the past. Totally loved it

Gold Creek Flume Trail is an easy walk recommended for anyone. It's property is privately owned by the utility company that provided the trail for public access. Foot bridges are nice and easy to walk through, though in the winter there may be one spot that can be hazardous of ice forming one a spot on the trail that may be safer to turn around than possibly slip and fall over the cliff.

is the complete trail open from Evergreen Avenue to Basin Road ? If so what is the "best" part ?

Would the trail be able to accommodate a wheelchair?
Skrevet 28. september 2018
I agree with the above answer. Part of the trail has a wooden type Boardwalk where it should not be that difficult to maneuver. However, there are other parts were it is a little bit more rugged and could serve as a challenge. If you look at some of the pictures that are posted you will see the wooden area that I am talking about.

Hi Patsy,
It is about a 15 to 20 minute walk from the cruise dock to the trail. I will say now, depending upon the way you go, the incline can be rather steep. We tend to walk rather fast so we did it in that amount of time. If you want to do it more leisurely and taking some of the views it could take a little longer.
