We are a family of four ages 62, 60, 20 and 19. We are not in particularly great shape but okay. It took us a little over two hours to hike to the top of Mount Roberts. The trail was well maintained but a little narrow. There were lots of switchbacks, tree roots, log steps and a bit of snow and mud. I used my walking stick and needed a hand from time to time to step up because I have a bad knee. It was a beautiful, exhilarating hike and we felt quite accomplished at the top. The view was spectacular and worth the hike. If you spend $15 each at the gift shop at the top, you get a free ride down on the tram. If you don't spend $15 each, the attendant just pushes you off the top. Just kidding!

I read reviews about this trail and researched about the trail online. It said ‘easy’ trail. I have to disagree with this. I’m 36yrs and in good shape. I don’t hike regularly but I walk my dog daily. So I thought this trail will not be difficult for me. Apparently it’s not easy as I thought. I came to Juneau on the second week of May. On the top of the mountain is still covered with snow! I had a walking sneakers on and struggled with the snow a bit (see pictures I posted). I didn’t expect the trial will be all snow! Other than that, the trail is beautiful. We saw some bold eagles flying on the top of the mountain. It took us about 2 hrs to hike from the trailhead to the tram. We rode the tram down. It’s going to be a good memory when I get old that I’ve done this hike!

This two mile hike, switchback after switchback, is doable for anyone "half-way" fit - - this 70 yr old did it in two hours with a good number of short rests - - always at prime locations admiring the lush rainforest and vistas. Waterproof/resistant hiking shoes/boots a necessity.

I drove out my campsite, Glacier Nalu around 6:30 am to find a drive thru coffee house.
Parked my rental in the free parking lot on the corner of 8 th street and Basin Road. Walked on Basin Rd to find Mt Robert’s Trailhead sign.
The morning was not sunny and inviting, It was foggy ... but it was not windy or raining.
The trail is well marked, comfortable and steep. If you are not comfortable with hills or walking upstairs, you will feel it.
Personally, I view walking uphill as an ideal workout.
The heart and lungs feel it, the leg and derrière muscles feel it.
Cardiovascular and strength training in one session.
Once, I reached the tram with snow on the ground, I turn back to head down the trail.
An elderly man was hiking up with ease and strength. I stopped to sincerely compliment him on his hiking abilities.. He rewarded me with a genuine soulful smile.

This is a good and relatively easy trail at the top of the tram. Admittedly I did not do much of it since it was raining, but the visitor center did have rain ponchos. There were plenty of activities and displays at the top.

My wife and I hiked from our hotel on Egan Dr to the trailhead off Basin Rd, then hiked up to the Tram. Due to substantial rain the past few weeks, the trail was damp throughout and wet/muddy in a few areas. The 2-2.5 mile one-way trail is pretty to easy to follow despite few signs along the way (thus the 4-star review versus 5-star). I would call the hike strenuous, particularly the first 1/2 mile or so off the Basin Rd trailhead. Covid restrictions have closed the tram, therefore the only way to get to the great viewing platform atop Mt Roberts is to hike. Multiple teams of hikers passed us, many locals who hike the trail routinely (one guy mentioned he was only hiking the trail once today instead of his usual twice). We're in moderate shape and it took 1.75 hours to go up the trail, one hour to come down the trail...conservatively plan three hours for round trip hike.

We had some spare time while in Juneau and we decided to go for a hike on Mount Roberts Trails. There are a few different route to choice from. It is also very steep but has a well maintained trail. There is also some stunning view points over looking Juneau. If you like being outdoors and hiking this is a great place to spend a few hours while in Juneau.

Went up the tramway on my cruise to Alaska this past summer. Spectacular view of Juneau Harbor and the area. Take a hike up the trail once you get up top for more great views. Don't miss the museum and film for some history if the people.

Easy to reach the base station from the cruise harbor and take the tram up the mountain to enjoy an excellent view of the town and harbor. You can see your cruise ship in the harbor and if you are early enough, there are short trails you can walk around the visitor center.
The price of the tram is expensive for $35 for a short trip up the hill but unless you want to try the vertical climb, there are no other choices.

Even though it was raining we ventured out onto the trail. We did not go all the way to the top but did get to Father Brown's cross. Trail was well signposted and in good condition.
