We decided to visit the village as it is a short distance from our hotel. This place is such a tourist trap, and is way too commercial and not for us.
We were plagued by people constantly trying to sell us things, and at almost every shop we got, “hello, shopping, buy something” and we encountered some shop sellers and people trying to sell us motorbike rides who were pushy and unrelenting and who didn’t seem to take no for an answer with one person following us. It was all about hard sales and commerciality, and no information about the history of the village and how people live and it lacked authenticity. The positive side of our visit was that you do get good views of the rice fields and the agricultural practises that go on here. With the benefit of hindsight I wouldn’t have bothered. I felt bothered and harassed by the end of my visit and couldn’t wait to leave

Độc đẹp và văn hoá đặc sắc ở trên sapa nhưng bị thương mại hoá nhiều quá, mất đi nhiều bản sắc vốn có của người dân tộc trên này.

It is very commercial. I'm willing to support cultural heritage, but tgis is a bit too much, despite the area is very nice.

Touristy spot, easy walkable and all spots are designed for capturing nice photos. Activities: watch dancing performance, how the local folks do textiles and handicrafts, mini shops selling souvenirs and snacks etc.
Expect to spend about 1 to 2 hours: including walking and rest.

Visited this "village" in April. Long walk down to the valley, passing along many shops selling stuff. At least the vendors weren't aggressively out hawking wares like some places in China but were quite gracious in allowing tourists to browse.
Visited a couple of "homes", to see them weaving cloths, and to see the interior of a home. Felt like I was violating some personal space there!
The payoff at the "village" is rather poor - perhaps this is the dry season, but the river is dry, the waterfall is small-ish, and the trees/plants are a bit dry and stunted. There were some horses, and structures for "Instagram" photos, a few animals but it took me a bit to realize that I was in the center of the "village". The touted hydro electric building had only a few pipes that were almost buried under the stage. (Did I miss seeing it or was this actually it?)
The natural scenery as all over Sapa is beautiful, but the human (tourist agency?) intervention seemed out of place, intrusive at best, exploitative at worst.
I understand the need for development, and tourism does improve livelihood of the community, but wither the balance between preserving-enriching culture (and exchange of) and exploiting the villagers (and tourists) for tourism sake?
This and Sa Pa in general is a beautiful area, but it seems to be developing at a fast pace into a concrete, Instagram caricature of what is... kind of sad.

Just a 15 minutes walk from town, this village is one of the most interesting place to visit when comes to sapa.
Beautiful landscape, nice and friendly people.
The only thing I didn’t like in this place is so many tourists, besides that, it worth to visit!

I know that tourism is a way for many poor people to gain income and a better life. But wow. I have seen nothing like Cat Cat village. Actually there is no village or community anymore. From start to finish it is only tourism (clothing shops, Instagram photo ops, restaurants). While I was there I saw more selfie sticks than locals. If you look for an authentic village life you won‘t find it here. If you wanna take pics this place might make you happy.

This place is a tourist trap. To get to this place, you have to go down a long narrow street full of street vendors and dogs. Be prepared to get exhausted to say "No" and refuse people that try to sell you stuff and stop you. The village itself is not an authentic village, it's a fake one, made for tourists, and it's full with tourists only dressed up in traditional clothes that came there to take photos. Go on a hike in the rice fields instead, this place is a tourist trap and the few hours it takes to get there and see it are just not worth it.

What are the stairs down like? How many stairs/how many flights from the entrance at the top, through the village to the bottom? Could a 75 year old with slight knee problems walk all the way down for example?

Please chose the entrance at the end of asphalt road. First entrance is at least hundred meters elevation higher than second one, close to bigger parking 🅿️ place should be easier. You will avoid some problems. There are many taxi 🚕 as well. Otherwise this village was for me rather commercial. If you would like to see real villages pls visit Muong Hoa valley with rice paddies and villages. Great views, nice walk and no traffic

We have booked a package for Cat Cat Village in November 2019.
May I know how's the weather and is the hike/trek suitable for elderly in their 60s?

Hi there,
Cat-cat village is definitely an easy-medium track especially for elders. On November, I believe it will be colder but bearable considering the winter is coming. Just make sure, you are equip with suitable clothes and you are good to go!

Due to the language barrier, you need to have a good guide. Best to book it with your hotel or your travel agents. Cat Village is quite near my hotel.

Can we walk on our own from Sapa Centre Hotel to Cat Cat Village or do we need a guide? I read that it is only 3km away.

You can walk without a guide. However when you reach the village you will pay an entrance fee. Be prepared. Wide brimmed hat , walking shoes/boots, water.
You are 1600 m above see level heading down a steep path to the village.
The village is great to see and beautiful waterfalls.
You then walk through the village and back up a steep path to the town.
Or organize a vehicle to meet you at the bottom car park to drive you back up the mountain.
Then head for a chilled beer , you’ve earned it

I heard you have to pay money just to drive down the road to this place, is that true?

Nope not true. If you want to buy things if of the black homong tribe they will be grateful but they have a great sense of pride and do not want handouts but money for exchange of something they have made.
