Had the most amazing experience , trecked throught the vallys with lots of amazing local women, they brought us to a home stay where we were greated Antoine , a fun talkative local who fed us a huge beautiful meal with family and friends. We all tried the local alcohol and stayed up sharing stories and drinking beer he provided. Amazing night and amazing experience id definitely recommend this beautiful home stay

Really torn on how to score this...started off very good, and deteriorated from there...
Tickets turned up on trust (you pay at end) and got collected at station no problem by our guide. Transported to Sapa and had a lovely breakfast whilst sorting gear and planning the route, all good.
Bikes were okay, standard trek front suspension bikes. Biking is wonderful, some challenging tracks and steep hills in parts - not for the beginner but if you like single track and have good level of fitness you'll have a blast. Cycling through terraced rice fields and Hmong villages full of kids and pot belly pigs was a real highlight of the holiday. We also had a great homestay where the owner and guide treat you like family. Our guide was great and really tried his beat for us.
Day 1 was physical and so we had an easier day two. All in all it was looking like a 4 star review, so what went wrong...?
Honestly a combination of small things started to take the gloss off...like mechanical issues (bikes are not maintained as rented from another local company) my free hub broke so bike could not be fixed, guide got it swapped to his credit, but you shouldn't get major mechanicals, totally preventable...Then day 2 cycling really felt like an afterthought, not much at all and stopped at lunch time. Then back at sapa the place for showers changed from our arrival place (nice) to another place over the street which was not a nice experience....not an acceptable standard.
Then on payment we were charged the two people rate when 4 people in the group. And then unforgivably they charged the other group for an extra train ticket home - return (round trip) ticket included. This was simply unforgivable behaviour.
Finally they said the dinner was moved from sapa to loa cai...which in the tour itinerary on the web is included. When we arrived no dinner- phoned sapa biking and they just said not included...it's no cost given prices in Vietnam but just felt like they had our money so forget about us...
Overall left feeling really frustrated. Tried to use a local company so they can develop their business and yet they totally undermined themselves by trying to pull some cheap scams. Poor behaviour, how can they hope to build a long term business??

Overall it was a good experience. Sapa and it's views were incredible. The only downside was that on our day of biking when it came to heading down the hill back to Sapa we took a route which only a very good level mountain biker could tackle safely. Huge rocks and slippy. We ended up carrying the bikes down for our own safety.
The day of walking was good. Beautiful scenery and our guide Su Thao was friendly and knowledgeable.

The best scenery of Muong Hoa Valley we have ever seen on a bike tour. I was amazed more people didn't tell me about this area much as I had no idea we would be cycling through that kind of countryside with amazing rice field terraces. We cycled about 30km all on countryside roads some of which were very bumpy and fun. I saw Bali this summer and I personally thought the scenery and mountains on this bike tour were more beautiful and breathtaking. It rained a bit during our trip but we decided to cycle through it and was really fun. The scenery again was unbelievable.
The lunch was really nice and the guide friendly and informative. I would highly recommend this tour!!!! Totally worth the money for such a unique experience. Very different to the other bike tours we had done in Vietnam, Cambodia, Bali and Thailand. Also very glad we left hotel at 8:30 as we then had such a full day.
Our local guide also took some photos of us on his iPhone while we were cycling and sent them to us afterwords. Thank you so much Sapa biking tours for organising us a such family tour!

I went with www.bikehike.com. We did a day bike tour that was one of the most beautiful rides I've ever done. Sorry but no words I could share would do justice to the experience of this day.

Sapa and surrounding area is a excellent place for biking. Great single trails for up and downhill even if its wet with gorgeous views over valleys and rice fields.
The 18 years old guide is a talented tourist guide with a remarkable stamina. He is one of a the local ethnic minority and has knows a lot of people living in the villages. The humorously guy also know lots of trail and path for biking and will be important in the future of the young Sapa Biking organisation.
The bike was a new Giant ATX 777 which is not high end but still good European standard. But the bike adjustments were poor. Dampers too hard. To much pressure in the tires and bad gear adjustments.
The organisation was very good. Every transportation on time, I got a backpack to use for free, and they gave me money back because of budget accommodation and train which I didn't used. The people in the stay were very friendly and the made lots of good food.
The price is high, but if you compare with trekking tours in same area then it isn't much more

The organization was poor - i did not get my train schedule until a few hours before the train and there was no one waiting in Lao Cai with my name which made me the pray of scammers who overcharged me for the bus ride. Then i was supposed to be able to take a shower before the tour starts but there was no hot water. The bike ride was not very long (seems like people on hike did more miles than us) esp. Since most was downhill i was expecting to do more. Biking was mostly on paved and really dusty roads some with lots of traffic - when i saw a small dirt path that went into a beautiful side valley with no one there and wanted to explore it the guide said we had no time. But instead we climbed up a steep dirt road for 8 km back to Sapa in the sun with lots of traffic and the same views we already had and then stopped for lunch and waited for a car pickup for 1h30 - and i sill had more than 1h before my bus left. I guess they did not want to spend the money to have the car pick us up further down valley. The only thing that was good about the tour was my guide and the farmstay. So i dont recommend this tour.
