It's quite a fine monument, but will be lost on most people without a translation from a native speaker, which tells you it is a message from Ho Chi Minh's heart to the people of Safa. Highly revered of course.
I was most impressed with the carving on the back side of the monument, and have poster a picture thereof.
But why is it called 'The Monument on the Lake' I don't know! It's next to the amphitheatre and the Stone Church in the middle of town - not next to the lake. Why not just call it the "Ho Chi Minh Friendship Monument".

while ordinary monuments have Uncle Ho as the central figure, this monument doesn't. actually it has nothing. but ok, it is a monument.

Not much to say, in the centre of town in the main square, kinda nothing special but you will not be able to miss it if you are downtown.

This particular monument is in the city center opposite the Stone Church. There's a spot of natural with seating, wide open space, along with landscape gardens. The inscription is in Vietnamese, therefore the significance was lost to us.

This is actually quite an interesting communist monument situated on a very communist style square. Right next to the broken fountain decorated with ugly blue swimming pool tiles and the strange sports equipment, sitting in the rain getting rusty.
The monument is a letter from Ho Chi Minh to the children of this area, telling them to study hard. Reminds me of Lenin and the children. Kind of gives you a slightly uneasy feeling (like all leaders addressing children directly) and it's also like a blast from a long gone past.

The name of this monument is Đài sen Thư Bác . Located in Xuan Vien Park, , this architectural and sculptural work is the place to hold on a gem , the whole contents the letter of the President Ho Chi Minh sent the children of Sa Pa 72 years ago.
The construction of ' Đài sen Thư Bác ; was designed by the sculptor Vu Tien , made of green stone material, , sculpture ensures modern, ethnic and popular elements. This special architecture is the place where cultural activities take place and launches emulation movements of Uncle Ho's local youth
Two wings of Dai Sen Thu Uncle express the moon, there is a lotus adhering to the letter of President Ho Chi Minh sending children to Sapa, combined with the national pattern and the scenery of the sky and clouds; four faces of reliefs depicting images of children of Sa Pa ethnic groups welcoming Uncle Ho's letter.

At the end of 1946, as the young President of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, , Uncle Ho still didn't forget a very small thing when he received the letter and whip stick of children. On November 19, 1946, Ho Chairman wrote a letter to Xa Ba (Sa Pa) children with close love words, the content of the letter is as follows :
Dear children, I have received the letter and two sticks already. Thank you guys. Although Uncle Ho is far away, I still remember it. He advised them to keep their discipline, and to study hard. Uncle Ho will please and praise the good children. On behalf of the Hanoi siblings, send a cordial visit to the children.
