What are people seeing here? I visited, had a look around, went to the information centre and spoken to the person there and a couple of locals. I got the place pretty much all burnt down in the 1930s, there was never much here, the dig for opals in the cliff faces by using a lot of firepower and shooting them out, there's nothing much historical left and go and have a look at the ghost town bit. It was a town working B. Everyone was nice enough but there's nothing here, no matter how much I wanted something.

Well done, Chloride, trolling the travel sites.

Nothing was open, few people around, very quiet, like Elmer Fudd hunting wabbits.

Neat off the beaten path place to check out. Saw several roadrunners went to ‘general store’ met the couple that manages it. Very nice folks and the history they shared was very interesting.

Wonderful experience

We just spent over a week at this park and can't say enough nice things about our experience. The owners, the manager Jackie, the workers including Jerry and Mark, and the guests were all so helpful and friendly. They have a great dog park,a very nice laundry room with the most reasonable rates and the cleanest restrooms we have ever seen. The town of Chloride is adorable and very historic and again, the people are so friendly. We loved our stay here and will be back.

Einen kurzen Stop wert

Klar ist es nicht riesig, aber doch irgendwie niedlich gemacht. Die Erwartungen sollten nicht zu hoch geschraubt werden, aber einen kurzen Stopp ist es Wert.
Und wie zuvor schon beschrieben, ins Zentrum fahren, vorbei an ein paar Alten Geisterhäusern.

A bit off the beaten track is Chloride, an old mining town; don't miss Purcell murals!

We were 'lured' to Chloride by a highway sign on US 93 promising it had an AZ visitors center. It did, and we were glad we'd been lured! That took us four miles off US 93 to the not-really-ghost mining town (pop is still about 300), charming and historic, nestled amidst the Cerbat Mountains; established in the 1860s. Its welcome sign boasts a Baptist Church, Volunteer Fire Dept, Chamber of Commerce, Historical Society, VFW Post 2190 and auxiliary; Silver Bells Playhouse, and Town Hall. Lots of prefab homes –and at the end of January, lots of RVers dry camping on the adjacent Bur of Land Mgt land-- amidst the cholla. Paved road in town. a short driving tour is in order, so drop in to the Mineshaft Market & Chloride General Store for a walking/driving guide of the town. Mining still goes on. The Purcell murals from the 1970s up the dirt road out of town are highly recommended... but warning... do not drive much beyond the murals as the road is rough and narrows and it is difficult/impossible to turn around.

A Cool Place to Visit

You can't tell if the deserted places are actually deserted, or they were built to look deserted. But they are cool. Most of the deserted buildings are in a little square in town. When I was there, nobody else around. To further make things cool there was a large long horn steer walking around the town. If this is not too far out of your way, definitely come here.

Cute little ghost town.

Not really a ghost town as 200 people live here. It was a friendly town with a section set up like a ghost town and a gun fighters shootout every Sat. There is a town history museum which is free and very interesting.

Day trippers unite!!!

It's easy to get to off of Hwy 93 not to far from Kingman. It's an actual town that has what looks to be a pretty neat little hotel and a super nice restaurant. They have the old "ghost" town where on weekends, the locals do old time shoot outs and other old western things. It's on old mining town and there are several places to hike. Now, just remember it is in AZ, so in the summer, you may want to think about a visit before 10am or after 7pm. Or sit and have some great food at the restaurant!

Cool place to visit

This place is worth seeing, especially if you drive up to the murals. Yesterday's restaurant was closed when we last went there a year or so ago, however. Just drive the streets to see what's there. Interesting shops and old stuff. On some Saturdays they stage shoot-outs. One house has a little miniature town in the yard. Visit the old two-cell jail (it's self-admit and release) and take pictures of your friends behind bars. People love it when you send the pics to them and they show them to their friends. It's just a few miles east of Highway 95, south of Vegas. It won't take long and you'll get a lot of great pictures. There are a number of websites where you can view pictures of the buildings and murals. And spend some money there. They need it!
